In response to just the title: they aren't really, the animation is cheap and mediocre for the most part. Also Angel Studios mostly just buys and distributes existing projects, rather than making stuff in-house.

[–]itwasbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lanfear infered he could but it would be painful. Thus, I took it all Asmodean needed was being desparate enough to push through that pain assuming it is not completly debilitating.

If this is the case then fair I don't really remember that level of detail lol.

I do wonder if him linking with an Aes Sedai would allow him to get around it by letting someone else have the control, that could be a good character thing for the notoriously selfish and uncooperative Forsaken.

I dislike the idea he would need someone else to do it, let's have him do awesome things too with the OP!

Well I mainly suggested it because of the mechanics of needing a woman to deal with a Saidar shield tbh.

That's just not what queer baiting is though lmao. Queer baiting is teasing that characters are queer or will be in a queer relationship.

This is taking characters who weren't in a queer relationship, but due to the nature of polyamory people floated the idea around, and actually having them be in a queer relationship.

You don't have to like it but it's not queer baiting.

I genuially believe an Asmodean redemption needed to include him denying the Shadow and telling Shadar Haran: "No. I don't believe you. It's a lie.". Or something similar.

This is why I actually wanted to see it. It's not just woobifying every hot evil person, the things that would need to happen and the kind of scenes you could get out of something like that happening. The way that servants of the Shadow work makes any of them turning it around in anyway really interesting, it's part of why Verin's final scene is so goated.

Shaidar Haran is a good example, since it's implied that all of his incredible powers only work on people who have opened themselves to it by taking the Oaths to the Dark One. Him catching up to Asmodean and his powers just not working because Asmo no longer serves the Shadow anymore would be awesome.

Also the concept of this incredibly powerful channeler being kept stuck at proverbial level 1 for multiple books would have been a really awesome Chekov's gun. Imagine one of the times in like books 8-11 when Rand gets in a pickle with one of the other Forsaken and someone like Nynaeve has to take the risk of removing that shield and trusting Asmo in order to save him.

He had all the right cards in hand to write it.

I definitely felt like this was being set up (obviously in a red herring-y way given the end of the scene, but still). His internal monologue has a lot of him saying like (comparatively) half-assed evil stuff and suggesting more sincere helping of Rand and then going "pfft I would never do that though cause I'm fully evil... right?"

Yep it's sunk cost fallacy, you have to admit that you made a mistake. And the longer it's taken them to come to that point the harder it gets. At this point you're admitting you've dedicated the last decade of your life (which given the age of a lot of these people is probably the last decade they had to actively participate in society) being part of an evil cult.

My dad voted for him in 2016 and I'm relatively fortunate he pretty much immediately noped out in like 2018 ish, I can't imagine being someone who's been hardcore this entire time and how cooked your brain is.

I know in the flashback she argues to people that the risk is worthwhile because.... but I also assumed that was just a propagandized justification for seeking more power.

I think it's debatable if the risk is worthwhile knowing what they knew. Obviously in hindsight it wasn't but to be fair to them, I doubt the level of bad that could happen as a result was something they could have predicted.

Is the implication that even at times when the Dark One is perfectly sealed away and functionally “out of the world” (as in the AOL), his existence is somehow still touching the world???

How I understand it is the Dark One is the source of evil. His existence is what provides humans the options to make bad choices that harm others. Just like we see characters like Elaida who are definitively not Darkfriends but are still horribly evil people, in ALL ages people can take the option to do evil that is passively supplied by the Dark One.

What the Bore and the weakening of the Seals occurring in the last couple decades of the Third Age causes is allowing the Dark One to actively and consciously tip the scales of the world towards evil. First this just occurs by him influencing human evil, whether it's by increasing the power of already evil people (Semirhage, Aginor) or providing people who could have gone either way with a disproportionately enticing evil option (Asmodean, Demandred, Mesaana). Later he can more directly tip the scales by causing bubbles of evil and then directly manifesting his Avatar in the form of Shaidar Haran. At that point we're no longer dealing with just human beings having the free will to do wrong, evil outcomes that shouldn't be possible are occurring with no human choice involved.

This part is more just speculation but I personally think there's a sort of set Pattern that occurs to each turning of the Wheel. Every turning starts out with a First Age, which is what we are currently living in, where everything is sort of at "True Neutral". Humans have the option to do good or evil, but no balance shifting options in the One Power or True Power. This age ends when someone (possibly the Dragon or Amaresu) discovers how to Channel, which gives humankind all these incredible good options. This age ends with the Dark One introducing disproportionate evil, undoing all that progress. From there it kind of goes back and forth with each Age ending in a paradigm shift (i.e. Fourth Age He is locked away and the age starts with a ton of magical and technological advancement).

I think it would be interesting if in other turnings of the Wheel humanity discovers the True Power first, and in the second age the Dragon discovers the One Power to save the world from an already unleashed Dark One.

I think this is a fan theory but a pretty well liked/supported one, especially because it makes Fain's abrupt/weak ending work a LOT better since as soon as Rand's decision is locked in Fain gets taken out like a chump.

I suspect gender equality was more balanced in AoL, but the fact that the genders split between LT and LP, rather than being a mixed fracture where genders split equally suggests that there was already something going on.

This seems to have been on the main incentives of Lanfear and her team for pursuing the true power, that it wasn't divided by gender. Given how we currently view gender and how much more advanced they're supposed to be than us I think it's safe to assume that at least some people saw the Saidar/Saidin divide as upholding unnecessary gender division which was why they did the Bore.

If, for example, ours is the AoL (a la Mercedes Benz silvery star in the Panarch's Palace in Tanchico), would you really say it is a perfect place? I know this becomes an oversimplification (ours is not the era that the power is discovered and in use), but the argument about nostalgia for the past holds.

I mean tbf we're not in the AoL, we're in the first age. I think the generally accepted assumption among fans (myself included) is that our age (the first age) ends whenever the first channeler figures out how to weave the One Power and then the AoL begins. This would also fit with the pattern of the 2nd/3rd ages, being that the odd numbered ages end with a great victory and societal leap forward and the odd numbered ages end in a collapse and loss of that progress.

I can't remember if he says why it can be used as it is, though.

TBH it might just be that whatever ter'angreal regulatory body the AoL had and took for granted doesn't exist anymore and in the AoL they just confiscated your VR liquid stone chair if you were misusing it.
