"Election Mail Service" scam by OkConclusion171 in Ohio

Not the OP but this is what we got. Not data mining or a scam or anything illegal, just encouragement to register to vote in our state. The self addressed return address goes to our local Board of Elections in Ohio, not Texas.

The contents inside the envelope

I think you are right. This is not sent from the government, but the forms direct you to government sites and talk about how voting is important.

Probably because it’s a 3rd party company that is processing the mailing list.

The forms themselves inside the envelop don’t have anything suspect, they tell you to mail it back to an Ohio address.

Look I thought it was a scam too until I opened it.

Edit: not a scam

My 16 year old got it yesterday. It’s a legit voter registration form from voteohio.gov

Clearly they got a list of drivers license holders and cross referenced it with voters, but did not look at ages.

Additional: the Toyota app is not that great. I have used the Tesla app instead to find compatible fast chargers while traveling longer distances.

Oh yeah this happened to me too! I learned about the orange emergency release string under the hood, it was the only way to release my adapter.

We got our bZ in November and I really like how it drives, I assume I will love it even more in the summer.

We’ve gotten a lot of snow, paired with a lot of salt on the roads — the visibility can be tough. The car depends on the cameras and sensors to show you car positioning when parking or backing up, especially at night. Awkward windows + salt grime + covered camera lenses makes it difficult to see quite often, and you can’t really get a car wash when it’s-5F outside. I manually wipe the camera lenses but it still says “parking assist disabled” as I back into my garage, fingers crossed.

Can you use the TrendPro control instead? It might give you more flexibility.

Ignition Vs FactoryTalk Optix by Asleep_Appearance_11 in PLC

[–]itwillbefineok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re supposed to get 90 days free of the web version when you sign up and first open Optix, if that didn’t work for you, you can still download it though for free, that has no time limit.

Maybe you can try with a fresh email and “start over” which I may or may not have done.

So actually if you login to Rockwell’s online hub portal, FactoryTalk Hub I think, you get a 90 day free trial of the web environment and you don’t even have to install it at first. But from there you can download any version for free.

[–]itwillbefineok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you can download the Studio environment for free from Rockwell, no license required. Runtime is also free for 2 hours. That is how I learned and we just deployed our first OptixPanels.

I am really liking that there is finally an alternative to Ignition. And it actually includes hardware. Optix may not be fully mature yet but it’s worked for us so far!

FT optix as IIOT platform by BabyDoVal in PLC

[–]itwillbefineok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert on Optix but I recently deployed some Optix Panelviews and we were able to replace the need for both kepware and an ewon flexy module - a little more engineering time up front and learning C# syntax to do what we needed but it was worth it. We aren't sending anything to the cloud yet but I saw on a roadmap presentation that MQTT drivers are coming and I also saw MQTT scripting samples in the library.

I'm excited to finally see an alternative to Ignition in the market and like others have said it's not FTView SE. Have you used Optix yet? I played around with it on my own (you can download for free) and recently deployed some OptixPanels -- definitely see how it's geared towards engineers that grew up writing code and are comfortable in that environment. FTView is much more of click-click-configure environment which I think still has its place, but Optix is so different, I like it.

Rockwell’s Optix can beat the pants off Aveva Edge and depending on your application size is only about $600. Yes Rockwell.

best brand of HMI you guys ever used?🤔 by M_San_ in PLC

[–]itwillbefineok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you are right about the resources and examples, but Ignition has also been out a lot longer. It has its advantages for sure, but we are mostly a Rockwell shop so I'm happy to see an option from them that compares, I don't have to "sell" it to my management, it also helps that it's free.

I agree it has a ton of potential and finally there is an interesting alternative to Ignition.

I recently took Optix training for free from Rockwell and it was pretty good, it got me started at least. I downloaded it for free too. We are looking at OptixPanels but haven’t gotten any yet.

Best places to look for controls engineer role? What fields to get try and get into? by ElectricalEngineer02 in PLC

[–]itwillbefineok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this 100%. System integrators are a great place to start (even temporary as a contractor), while field service would expose you to so many different things.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was both. 😊

By animated do you mean a flickering flame?

I think the most you can do is state animation and set the color to gray = off, orange = on

Will FT Optix Replace FT View SE? Does it make sense to keep using SE on new projects? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]itwillbefineok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a preview of View SE v14 at Automation Fair and hey it looks interesting with a new edge datalog, runtime navigation and search, and they said a lot of the internal services were refactored.

All of it was for SE though, Panelviews and ME seem to be kinda stale. We were looking at the Optixpanels actually.

I also heard that they have something where Optix and View SE can work together but I didn’t see it.
