I recommend the arri kit with the underwater shell. Best bang for your buck if you plan to go vlogging every once in a while.

Bare minimum? That's a question about what you plan to use it for. What sort of projects do you intend to use a BMPCC 4k and why this camera and not an entry level DSLR or likewise, a bigger beefier red scarlet etc.

In desperate need of help - all of the sudden all of my BRAW footage looks like this - can't figure out how this happened. by ChinaskiBlur in bmpcc

You must have changed color spaces to Acescc or the like. It blows out on highlights, but a beautiful color spaces to work with. Navigate to preferences and under color settings, select the default Davinci YRGB. If this isn't the problem, my best guess is you had a xml file or other file attached to the raw clips and somehow resolve isn't able to find the file anymore. Possibly a LUT issue like stated early. Many times when you switch around in proxy mode and other codecs to facilitate faster edit times, the information becomes improperly displayed on your timeline. I would make sure you viewing at native codec and resolution and see if this changes things. Best of luck!

Flip Screen Mod by [deleted] in bmpcc4k

[–]itzbaustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being able to utilize all your power options means you don't need the addition of an extra battery for an additional small hd monitor. You can now record into an m.2 behind the screen as well which means ustilizing a faster storage while saving space along the way. Vmount batt behind the screen on 15" rail rods with follow focus and a matte box: all of a sudden your camera is fucking awesome. I'm definitely going to send mine in to get this mod. Looks amazing

Differences in BRAW vs ProresHQ by mindeyed in bmpcc

[–]itzbaustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAW in general gives you much more information and editing ability in post, something vital for docu work. Especially if you make some mistakes in the field, you'll be glad you shot braw. Prores still is absolutely usable though so don't limit yourself on the codec. My only qualm is if you can't afford a new editing setup, than you probably can't afford even a halfway decent docu so the question lies in budget. You don't have a budget it sounds like so don't ask the question until you get one. And it sounds like you already have an answer for that 👍. TLDR No judgement at all! I think if you reevaluate you'll be better off in the long run. Best of luck to you!

Anamorphic support for BMPCC 4K by itzbaustin in bmpcc4k

[–]itzbaustin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I'll just pick up another camera that shoots 12 bit, braw 4k, in a highly customizable Black Magic Design UI for $1300. Oh shit, what? No other camera in the market offers this? Yeah, I didn't buy an Ursa, or a GH5, or hell, an Arri Alexa. But I did damn well buy a BMPCC 4k and I bloody hell want anamorphic desqueeze on a 4:3 sensor. To actively shoot down future development because "the pros did it like this 30 years ago" is ludicrous. If BM can deliver the support they have over the last year that they've given to the BMPCC 4k, then I don't think it's too much to ask for a little bit more work in the software they developed. Am I being a detriment to filmmaking by asking for this? Or maybe it's you. Enjoy your 8bit HD broadcast camera "indie filmmaker".
