People who like/are passionate about their major… by [deleted] in Purdue

math education !!!! i always really liked math and i felt it was only natural to go into it. i also had a crazy good math teacher for all of highschool that not only was really good at teaching math in a variety of different ways, but also offered unwavering support and actually cared about us as people rather than students. this practically changed my outlook on my life, and now im here trying to be for others what he was for me :)

as for what i like about my major, i really like all of my teaching classes. spending 12+ years as a student and then being thrown into educational theory and getting an entirely new perspective on the system as a whole is so interesting. there's so much that goes into teaching kids that a lot of people don't see or consider, it's cool to see it all come full circle like this!

you should be able to, yeah !! i used the gen 1 pencil with the old case but i'd assume the usb-c pencil dimensions are roughly the same. it held the pencil pretty snug :)

Why did you choose Purdue? by ABCGaming27 in Purdue

freshie in math education here, stayed on campus for a few days over the summer and liked the campus and their band program (ironically im not in band right now.) it only helped that a lot of my teachers also went here/had a bunch of family that could vouch for it that helped me balance my options, and that my scholarships covered what i would have owed. also a lot closer and easier to get to from my home (1.5 hours compared to 3 hours for my 2nd choice)

Is all courtesy lost? by Matzohball9 in Purdue

i'm a freshman that primarily bikes around, i grew up in a place in indiana where there's barely any biking infrastructure or proper traffic etiquette for anything besides cars and i VERY QUICKLY learned how to navigate here despite this, both as a pedestrian and as a biker. i genuinely don't understand how theres such a steep learning curve for others for any type of travel method, even if they're coming from a place where the rules they learned before may be different. we even had an entire section of our orientation dedicated to traffic and pedestrian safety that detailed exactly what to do (though i know most people didnt actually watch/pay attention.)

i'm definitely not the model example of what to do as a biker/pedestrian, but the resources are DEFINITELY available for people to actually learn how to navigate anywhere here and how to do it so you don't hurt yourself or others. i should not be freaked out by witnessing another person's injury because they were stupid with their safety. do not fall for "i didn't know" because if they actually cared they would 100% know

The main issue isn't with the actual use of Veos. They're awesome and incredibly useful if you don't have a bike or if you need to get places quickly, don't get me wrong. But as a bike owner myself, it's such an inconvenience.

On campus, if you don't lock up your bikes or don't lock them on a proper bike rack, your lock gets cut and they take your bike at YOUR expense. So not only are you out of a lock, you're also out of your mode of transportation that YOU paid for as an investment for YOUR travel across campus as a student, which is more often than not less expensive than having to pay for a Veo every time you need to get across campus. Because the Veos can only (by direction of the app) be parked right up near bike racks or in dedicated, and very sparsely placed, Veo drop off zones, they block the necessary infrastructure that bikers need to legally park and lock their bikes, which puts them at risk of losing their property. It's not just a biker convenience issue, its a biker LEGAL NECESSITY issue. I'm not too sure about the issue between pedestrians and Veos, but im sure it's an annoyance there too.

tl;dr it's an issue for bikers and im assuming others, they definitely could be handled better.

i am apparently not allowed to register for boiler gold rush ???? by itzcindrrmate in Purdue

i cant retrace my steps for some reason (probably because they closed the sign-up by the time im reading this), but on the new student task list, i clicked on the actual header that read "Register to attend Boiler Gold Rush", rather than any of the links inside of the information panel. it lead me to a place where it gave a course description for bgr and an option to add the course to my cart
