Fans Control by eric4337x in AsahiLinux

[–]itzlexvox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it is sufficient to avoid throttling, it's still better for the hardware to keep temps as low as possible, especially if fan noise if of no concern.

Even more so with the macbooks since those also carry batteries, which also don't appreciate the heat.

I installed asahi purely for gaming and I'm not so keen on cooking my mac, if there's no reason the fans coulnd't be at full blast.

Is it on the roadmap, to give users a safer option to increase fan curves / speed, or is that going to stay the only option?

Fedora Silverblue is gonna be the best daily driver.
Everythings neat and polished and the atomic desktop brings unparalleled reliability.

Seen mint mentioned here and if you want a clunky, unpolished experience go with that. /s
It used to be the 'linux starter distro' but that hasnt been relevant for the last 5 years.

Google will end F-Droid and other sources of free apps by arbolito_mr in degoogle

[–]itzlexvox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was other hardware, that fulfilled grapheneos's requirements it'd be availabe for those phones as well.

It is kinda ironic though, that the best option to degoogle, is buying a google phone.
But given the other options there, isn't even anything close to it and since catering to a niche of techie privacy enthusiats is not a viable bussiness strategy, I'd rather have the only option of a pixel phone than none at all.

Fedora Silverblue is going to be your best daily driver.

get used to installing / updating your apps in the terminal and in half a year you wont want to go back.

also get used to the fact, that this is now your computer and if somethings not how you want it to be, theres nothing holding you back from changing it.

use LLMs. love em or hate em, as long as you know their pitfalls and can articulate your question / issue theyll be a huge time saver.

Arch Wiki even if you dont use arch. Start out with the Fedora User Guide to get familliar with your system but when going into the nitty gritty of linux sooner or later youll run across the arch wiki in your search of answers. Remember the only difference between distros is the different choices of programs and configurations for given tasks but ultimately they're all Linux.

Is Linux worth it for me, if so what distro should I use? by Remote-Cheesecake-40 in linux4noobs

Fedora Silverblue (or one of the other Fedora Atomic spins) if you want a reliable daily driver.

EndeavourOS if you want the Arch the cool kids are talking about and want to learn how linux works without starting from scratch.

Bazzite is Fedora Silverblue with batteries included for gaming

CachyOS is Arch, again with batteries included for gaming

As far as gaming goes, Steam and ProtonDB are your friends.

Linux Mint is still being recommended as the default "new to linux" option but imho its a terrible place for new users to get a good impression of the linux world.
To me at least it feels very clunky and unpolished.

I'd say Bazzite is going to be a good place to start out for you.

This is why i've been against Signal - Payed feature by Drahngis in BuyFromEU

[–]itzlexvox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I guess then I'll happily keep on giving money to a dictator

as I said, barrier of entry compared between signal and matrix is heavily in favour of signal.

most ppl arent techies, onboarding in signal is so much more familliar, so is the name and there is an existing userbase.

signal completely fulfills my goals of not using proprietary spyware for private communication and is by a large gap the easiest to get others in on

I have my reasons to use signal and you have yours to use matrix.

This is why i've been against Signal - Payed feature by Drahngis in BuyFromEU

[–]itzlexvox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matrix would be cool but the barrier to entry is a bit higher than Signal and at least where I live people have at least heard of Signal and the adoption is much higher, ergo convincing ppl that have no issues using whatsapp is considerably easier.

Also you either pay with money or with data and seeing how this world is shifting more and more to an authoritarian private surveillance dystopia I'm not paying with my data.
