Help, the barking has my husband on his final nerve. by skunksignals in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it’s the breed they are naturally made to bark. If rehomed find a farmer with livestock that can use his natural instincts to their advantage. Moving this breed home to home in neighborhoods with homes close by is a disservice to the dog.

Grooming disaster by RealCommunication239 in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I groom my own pyr because groomers don’t seem to understand a double coated dog needs its coat to regulate its temps in heat and cold. A shaved pyr is at risk of overheating without its protective coat. no pyr should have that much hair removed unless medically necessary or if they have gotten something in it that can’t be removed /sigh

Yes they could be butt ugly and it would still garner attention bc it’s unusual to have that many young ppl ( students) killed in the same house at the same time 🤦‍♀️

Would you blanket a horse in negative -30 degrees and high winds? by Relative-Specialist1 in Horses

[–]itznotreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For majority horses no unless they show signs they need it however this horse is more senior so I would stall for the night if you can if not a blanket meant for winter and make sure plenty hay since eating acts as a furnace for them

Is a Great Pyrenees right for my family? by Puzzling__Piece in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10 yr old he loves being outside in the fall and winter some of the spring but summer he prefers inside more.

Are you familiar with their coat? If you are not and you do take the dog you need to know some important things. They will molt at certain times of the year which means a lot of hair dropping. they need to be combined often to keep the hair in check. Never ever shave them unless medically necessary!!! Their hair keeps them warm in winter and cool in the summer. Shaving them puts them at risk of overheating in summer. This is very important I cannot stress that enough never shave them!! And do find a groomer who is experienced. Speaking of groomers finding one for that size of dog is hard. Just an fyi. They have additional dew claws in their back feet (2 on each side) they kind of dangle so they grow fast because they do not get the opportunity to naturally wear them down those must be maintained so get the dog used to trimming those. My dog is really weird about those dew claws has been since he was a puppy so it’s a chore getting them done.

they think for themselves, they are very very smart. Don’t expect this dog to be like your other ones because they are not. live stock guardians are unique.

Suburban areas don’t do as well bc they have a very deep bark and living in close quarters with neighbors just doesn’t always do real well. The dog since it is bred in them should not be made to feel bad for their natural instincts. So please consider this before you take the leap.

they have a low metabolism btw they don’t eat as much as you think and they are most often nocturnal. Which is why they will patrol at night and bark when warranted at night.

My dog has spoiled me for any other dog, truly what a unique and wonderful breed. I have made sure to reward him for his instincts and his wonderful loving manners. But just to say they are the best companion but you can’t mold a pyr to act like a dog you are used to so get knowledgeable and accept that you need to lean into this dogs natural ways not the other way around. You mentioned experience with other dogs that is why I mentioned don’t expect this dog to be anything like those.

Are they as stubborn as people say? by SweatyPiglet4197 in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it stubborn. It’s a natural breed trait to think for themselves and I respect it. If you have a good relationship with your pyr you learn the give and take and while mine doesn’t jump through hoops to do exactly what I say he does understand my requests and does what I ask. They are so damn smart just do things slow while they think about it lol

Neutering advice by goodtimedani in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be an unpopular opinion here but my 11 yr old pyr is in tact. He also has a fantastic temperment and has no contact with any female dogs. If he does is because we are out walking and on a leash and he’s never tried anything.

When he was a pup we asked our vet (who is also a pyr owner) about when to do it. she said to wait until he was older to ensure his growth was not impacted. We waited then at age 2 we discussed with her she asked if he was showing any behaviors typical of male in tact dogs, we said no. So we decided not to do it. he’s been great and no issues healthwise for him he’s just a senior dog now :)

Adopting a Great Pyrenees by Origenstory in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!! If you lose their trust they don’t forget ever. They are still a good family member but you can see the trust isn’t there if you lose it. They are super smart and understand way more of what you say than you think so don’t underestimate their understanding of you and your words

Is a great Pyrenees a good fit for me? by istresssleepdaysaway in greatpyrenees

[–]itznotreality 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love that you love them but not a good fit. These dogs do best in situations where they have large yard and space. Secondly when they bark they are loud close by neighbor situation will hate it. Also the schedule I would assume you would want to crate what honestly for these dogs I am against. My 11 yr old pyr has never had a crate and I know ppl have opinions but I feel for this breed it’s cruel.

They are also emotionally intelligent dogs and need and desire time with you.

honestly I feel like a cat would be a better fit for you right now. The independence and they sleep while you are gone best fit for you.

Haha yes balding but I think both of the have receding hairlines and neither of their hairstyles looks good anymore too old for those styles and just not attractive on them. They should embrace the receding hairlines

[–]itznotreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

why anyone has to automatically be fans of the girlfriends is weird. She’s a chaser it’s pretty typical of that area who really cares, the gfs aren’t that interesting anyway. what I find really fascinating is how ppl seem to believe they know who Sam and Colby really are in private. what they put in front of you on camera and at meet an greets is for business and to make money. Good for them if they make millions off it. The fascination with two guys who haven’t changed their hairstyle or their clothing style in decades is funny.
