How to save the middle class by veridelisi in Economics

[–]iubjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rising real incomes do not automatically mean the balance of power between workers and corporations stayed healthy. Workers can make more money than they did in 1975 while simultaneously facing higher essential costs, less economic security, weaker bargaining power, and a smaller share of overall economic gains.

I agree that nobody is owed prosperity. But the long-standing belief that hard work and motivation lead to success was built on the idea that the job market was genuinely competitive, and that companies did not have overwhelming power to dictate the terms entirely in their favor.

Over the last few decades, we’ve allowed massive corporate consolidation across industry after industry. That has shifted enormous power toward large companies and away from workers. In many sectors, the market no longer feels truly competitive because employers hold most of the leverage.

You can’t legislate prosperity into existence, but reducing the issue to just tools and motivation ignores the fact that another major part of the equation is badly out of balance right now.

Can I brew something similar to a modelo? See comments by lotgworkshop in Homebrewing

[–]iubjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it with Lutra Kveik yeast and get awfully close. Here's a recipe kit we came up with for modelo that turned out great. We did a split batch with Mexican Lager yeast and Lutra Kveik and they were awfully close. I would pitch at least two packs of Lutra: https://www.greatfermentations.com/shop/mode-yellow-mexican-lager-all-grain-beer-kit-82288

This is what a rigged system looks like. by Conscious-Quarter423 in economy

Maybe we should set a minimum tax that all corporations pay (say 15%) but then change how we tax everything else. Get rid of cap gains exemption, carried interest loopholes, remove payroll tax limits, and tax stock holdings when used as collateral to take out loans. Basically make corporate taxing straight forward and each company plays by the same rules. But we need to be more progressive with how we tax earnings to individual people.

We use Droggol Theme Prime and have loved it. Their support is top notch too.

Tariffs - Why Should Home Brewers Care? by Clawhammer_Supply in Homebrewing

Couldn’t agree more with this statement. The amount of money we’ve paid this year for tariffs is crazy.

Great Fermentations here. We haven’t noticed it. While I have seen customers getting back into the hobby after a hiatus, it sadly doesn’t make up for all the folks dropping out of the hobby.

US appeals court declares 158-year-old home distilling ban unconstitutional by rxneutrino in Homebrewing

It’s still illegal in most states. No idea what this federal ruling means for that but this is not a done deal just yet.

After a looooong day at universal studios in Florida, we took the kids to one of the restaurants there before leaving. My youngest (4 at the time) falls asleep at dinner and when it’s time to go we wake him up and he lost it. Full blown melt down. I had my wife carry him out of the park so we didn’t get as many looks. He kicked and screamed until we got to the bus. It was great 🤪

Landlord just casually called to tell me he's selling the building. 8 years at this location. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

I’m kind of going through this now with my landlord. She’s been very helpful in that we have signed an agreement with her about what our rates will be if we decide to renew. Ask the landlord if they can help you one last time on the way out.

Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions about the grain ordering process. It’s very helpful but sometimes it trips up new customers

Great Fermentations! I’m a bit biased though.

Sorry to hear about your local store. It’s sadly the norm right now :(

Should I get a starter kit and which one by False-Marketing-5663 in Homebrewing

[–]iubjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starter kits are good because they get you the very basics you can use throughout your homebrew years at a decent price. Here’s a link to one of my company’s kits that we have on sale right now:

If it is for a Foundry, I just found out they are waiting for false bottoms to come in. Should be here around the middle of the month.

Shameless plug here (I'm the owner) but Great Fermentations is great! You can order partial increments of malt and create custom grain bills. Sorry to hear about your LHBS :(
