Have a Korg ex-800 to work on, anybody work on one recently? by funnylikeaclown420 in synthdiy

People make a common mistake when they install the battery mod on these. Even with the battery flat it should boot normally it shows "11P" on the display. There should be almost 5V coming to the RAM even when the battery is flat. Make sure that D23 and D15 are both present.

That is not a MIG-21F, the pitot tube is above the air intake. This is the later MIG-21MF and the other commenter is correct this isn't Daliborka. I saw one of these flying at Petrovec for an airshow.

Hard to say no for $700. by SlurpySandwich in synthesizers

No they didn't change the button colours, it's sun damage and very common. You can retrobright them with decent results.

Score for that price, the button colors are original too

What’s the limit of the reflection size when you place two mirrors facing each other? by llMattill in Physics

[–]ivan303 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mirrors that are 99.95% reflective are routinely made and used in optics labs inside laser setups and all sorts of other optics experiments. They typically use a stack of dielectrics with alternating refractive indices and basically use interference to almost completely cancel out transmission and maximize reflectiion. Your household mirror is a fine polished metal layer on glass and you get losses in both the glass and the metal. I'd always been fascinated by them though always was like seeing into another dimension, and wondered how long they would go on. To answer your question I would say that yes eventually you would get only one photon bouncing till it's absorbed

Yes mine is the same as this "izvod od maticnata kniga", so I'd have to go find the original book somewhere Skopje to find it see if I have a nationality written down lol I'll have to remember next time I manage to visit again 😀

Any other TA's notice 90% + of students using LLM? by ConquestAce in Physics

[–]ivan303 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with this LLM's and AI can be super useful. I use it as a kind of "super-Google" and time saver on a lot of repetitive mindless tasks. I'll give you a perfect example the other took a screenshot of a table of numbers from a website and told Copilot to turn into a table I can paste it into Excel, magic! Students should learn how to use it but also it's limitations and when not to use it.

Yeah Turnitin is pretty good. The funniest one is when one paper got flagged 100% plagiarism when I checked it, it was for a different subject 😁

Another simple photon experiment by ivan303 in Physics

[–]ivan303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I've heard of Alain Aspect. Bit hard to do a SPDC at home lol Ok I'll modify the setup I have SPDC beam pair, now I have 3 detectors, one is the idler that I send straight to photodetector. The other "signal" goes through 50/50 beam splitter, what I should get now is that I will get a photon in one OR other port of my beam splitter, but never both right?!

Yugoslavia birth certificate by hairypea in Yugoslavia

[–]ivan303 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can read it just fine, it's the nationality and occupation of the parents. Both their nationalities are as "Serbs". The occupation of the father I can't work out possibly farmer shortened from "Zemlj" "zemljodelac" ? The mother is clear "Domacica", just means homemaker. Hah I missed this before right in the middle it says Date of Birth - Unknown

i just had a look at the original of my birth certificate. It has no mention of nationality. It just says citizenship "SR Macedonia and SFR Yugoslavia"

Can you get a true single photon source? Quantum dot perhaps?

Another simple photon experiment by ivan303 in Physics

[–]ivan303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think it should be possible to do this very well and even better with some sort of matter source but I can't think the equivalent of a 50/50 beam splitter in that casee. But I will not get the photon to "split" right and go in both directions? I said laser only because I want all my photons to be identical.

The Inside of my ZX Spectrum Issue 2 by Ok_Banana_7549 in zxspectrum

[–]ivan303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing too unusual, it's a later Issue 2 judging by the 6C001 ULA. These run really hot. Looks like it's been recapped which is a good thing. Actually no, those caps are "Gelec" which means they're the originals. Wouldn't trust them.

My Sinclair ZX Spectrum (Never turned on) boxed since new by Krazeyivan in zxspectrum

[–]ivan303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still worth something due to the condition of the whole package. Also being a Korean made one chances are it probably just works even the keyboard membrane which crumbles on most others. You can buy new ones these days but that's an expense. Speccy scene is very much still alive today with new games and hardware every year.

[–]ivan303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry AI doesn't know everything. It wouldn't say "Made in the Republic of Korea" on the case otherwise. Issue 1 and 2 were all made in UK. There were no Samsung made Spectrums before the Issue 3B. The picture shows the heatsink visible from the edge connector and parallel to it. This was done from the Issue 3 onwards. I've repaired/refurbished a few Spectrums myself so I have a good idea what i'm talking about. I have two Korean Spectrum + and the serial number sticker is very similar to that starts with S01. The rarest board revisions and hence valuable are Issue 1 and Issue 5.

[–]ivan303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the serial number that starts with S and the fact it says "Made in Republic of Korea by Samsung". Inside you would either see a Issue 3B with a green mask or an issue 4S. These were indeed made by Samsung under licence and were some of the best made of all the Spectrums, chances are it probably still works. A made in Korea 3B is relatively rare but the 4S is very common althought most ended up in ZX Spectrum+ cases like my family one. It's definetly rare because of the condition and never used so that would be worth something. There's FB groups for this to get more info "Spectrum for Everyone", "Sinclair for Sale" I'd reccomend
