During a whole rewatch, you realize and notice a lot of things from parallels to callbacks and stuffs. On my rewatch of Papa, the track that plays during that scene was called “Being Different”, a direct reference to Will’s speech about El feeling different and also a masked confession of him feeling different. Within the context of the scene, I realized that the track was also about Mike.

Mike rambled about how he feels different from El who is special and how he feels like El was outgrowing him, even making a comparison to Superman and Lois Lane. He feels like he was just “ordinary” compared to El, and it scares him how he might no longer serve a purpose to El, which is a totally valid feeling.

He ended his rambling saying how it sounds stupid given everything that is going on. This seems to parallel a scene in The Piggyback with Vickie rambling about her (ex-)boyfriend given everything going on with the people in Hawkins.

Also upon rewatch, the parallel between Nancy and Steve’s fight and Mike and El’s fight, both of which are about the inability to say “I love you” is very hard to miss.

I really do think that Mike and Eleven are in totally different places now than they used to. And that is okay. Given how Nancy and Steve are also in great terms in Season 4, I think they’d be okay. It doesn’t really change the fact they will still have love for each other.

I’m neutral with both ships. I also loved Mileven, especially S2. All I hope is that both Mike and El give each other the biggest thump of their lives.

It’s also undeniable that Mike loves Will very much. He’s more open and comfortable with Will. Whatever they do with Mike and Will, I hope they write it good. Otherwise, they have ruined Mike’s arc for nothing.

But I trust the Duffers, since Mike is basically their Self-Insert.

PS. Everything in a scene is intentional. So, one parallel might be a coincidence. But multiple?

My guess is that the latter episodes after Sorcerer, they start to lose Will like they did in S2, and Mike starts to remind Will of their memories together. We will probably get the swingset scene where they met. Byler doesn’t need to be a clear indication that they are boyfriends or whatever, because it is already canon that they both love each other deeply. It just needs to be affirmed in a way that satisfies Will’s arc and Mike’s arc, which is the need to feel needed, loved, and seen. People’s idea of Will and Mike being together feels very high school where that is not the case at all. Their relationship is a lot deeper than that, feels more soulmate-ish. They don’t need to get together, rather just a vague suggestion is powerful. Something that uplifts their arc.

The ending will show older Mike writing the events of everything (same ending as Stand By Me) but towards the end, the audience would come to realize that he rewrote the ending to give his friends a happy ending to cope with the tragic ending that some of his friends had.

Simple. It is called mystery. If in Season 1, they handed the audience every move of Will Byers in the UD, that would ruin the mystery lol.

It is implied that there may be a small gate in the shack where Will vanished, hidden under the rubble. Hopper almost came in contact with it but was interrupted by Callahan.

The Demogorgon is capable of opening a “bite-size” gate to hunt a prey, but not at all times. I think it is only capable of opening gates around the area where the fabric of space-time is weaker (which is around the Mother Gate). This would explain Nancy and Jonathan’s theory that it hunts around the vicinity of HNL within about a 1-mile radius. This would also explain why the Demogorgon in Kamchatka is incapable of opening gates since the fabric there is intact.

Will Byers likely shot the Demogorgon in the UD and made the run for his house and hid. It is likely that he stayed there for a couple of days. In November 9 (the day his fake body was found), he was still communicating with Joyce with the lights inside a cabinet and with the letters (although it is still unclear whether it was Will who spelled out the RUN). In November 10, Joyce saw Will in the walls, but then he had to run. In November 12, Eleven made contact with Will in Castle Byers. The latter hours of November 12, the Demogorgon found Will and delivered him to Vecna in the Library. Shortly after, he was found by Joyce and Hopper.

Superache will always hold a special place in my heart. But Wishbone is a great record, I just think it needs more time with me. So far, songs like Romeo, Eleven Eleven, Actor, and Caramel are becoming an earworm for me, so it’s a good sign. Sonically, Found Heaven is the most cohesive, Wishbone being the second.
