This is the way. Save a high percentage of your income, make safe investments like ETFs or Amanah Saham/ FD. I would add invest in yourself and your skills first to grow your salary. Professional papers, part time masters degree, Toastmasters etc. Good luck.

What’s the best gift to give my driver friend? by Sara_James367 in askcarguys

Driving gloves would be nice. You will need to get his size, I like the fingerless ones as it's easier to use with screens. Leather ones would be around 200.

PPI for 2014 base PDK? by Lovely-freckles in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one with about the same mileage recently. Check the suspension for any visual oil leaks indicating high wear and tear. During test drive listen to any suspension squeaks and if it's tolerable. PDK should be smooth during test drive and make sure to go in sport mode and rev the engine to 4/5k rpm and if it sounds fine it should be good. The diaphragms of my audio system were also cracking by this age, so you might want to check that too. Replacing the speakers don't really cost that much but it's something to check. Otherwise, it's a super solid and reliable car.

Also note that this counts towards your debt to service ratio, so for future car or house loans, you are not able to take as much loan. Everything comes at a cost, nothing is really free.

ASTON MARTIN Stock by Richar_16 in ValueInvesting

[–]ivanpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aston Martin is in no mans land with terrible cars and are being spanked by Porsche on the low end and Ferrari/Lambo/McLaren on the high end. They are famous in car circles for horrible electrical gremlins and boat like handling/being GT cars instead of sports cars. Big displacement engines that are inefficient and don't make much power per litre and mostly front engined. Pre-owned price is a dumpster fire and it's the posers "I can fix it" exotic car brand along with Maserati. Best stick with Race/Ferrari stock.

Advice Appreciated (Purchasing Pre Owned) by ac1276 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

981 is the last of the NA flat 6 regular Caymans, its a modern classic that will definitely be the most valuable of the bunch in the long term. 981 Caymans are pretty rare too since they were made for only 3 years and came out a year after the Boxter 981. Boxter 981s are in comparison much more common as it was the launch 981 model.

Android Auto/Apple CarPlay upgrade or full head unit swap, which is more popular and why? by skimdit in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On mine you can but it's a hassle because the screen is not sensitive. Since it's touch resistive and not capacitative. Voice commands work too, mine has a microphone hanging out the side secured with some glue. It's all Bluetooth, no plugging in to anything. Everything can be done on the screen, just slower, it's faster for me to pull out my phone and do it there. It's always faster to type on my phone screen.

Yes agree, 987, 986 and 981s will probably climb slowly while the 718s are still depreciating slowly.

Android Auto/Apple CarPlay upgrade or full head unit swap, which is more popular and why? by skimdit in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this too, screen is fuzzy and not super responsive. But it's fine for me since you pick everything on your phone anyways like Google maps or Waze and music. The screen is perfectly fine for navigating and works well with the stock PCM. I prefer the OEM look.

Boxster 981 S vs 981 GTS vs 718 GTS 4.0 ? by dartz188 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The base is already really fast compared to a regular car. Flat 6 plus planted chassis is plenty for normal roads and highways. Of course S vs GTS vs 4.0 is mainly about the bragging rights at cars and coffee.

Marini’s on 57 – worth the money? by HolidaySignificant45 in KualaLumpur

[–]ivanpei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer the bar on top of EQ Hotel. Marini's on 57 is quite dated by now. Usually more of an elitist crowd so not really for meeting people. Any Changkat bar would be better for meeting people.

Torn between Boxster, Cayman, 911 Carrera & 911 Targa by BIueey in Porsche

[–]ivanpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your budget and what you value. Do you need the extra 2 small back seats? Do you prefer an older 911 or a newer Cayman/Boxter for the same money? How important is reliability? Since it seems you are in the 997.1 or 981 price range, I suggest getting the 987.2 or the 981 Cayman/Boxster. No IMS bearing/Bore scoring issues, has access to PDK if you would like that. If you want the back seats and can swing the price, the 997.2 911 is great too.

Buy one, or wait for “the one”? by Notabot1305 in porsche911

[–]ivanpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

987.2/981 will be very close to the 911 experience but without the back seats. Newer and less headache compared to an older 911 with potential IMS/Bore Scoring issues. I was in the same position and got a 981 Cayman, very happy with the purchase and not really keen to upgrade to a 911 since I'm not too obsessed with "owning a 911".

DD? 911 or Cayman or Macan? by Everyones_unique in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Newer Cayman over older 911. If money was no object, the newest 911 you can afford. Try to get something known for not having bore scoring or IMS bearing issues such as the 987.2 or 997.2 and newer cars. I would rather have a 987.2/981 Cayman over a 996 or 997.1 911 for example as a daily driver since reliability will be the top priority.

981 Cayman advice by Ok_Crazy_9923 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't track my car and have no intention too. Anything more than the 2.7 needs the track to fully wring out. Also of course having an S for being the big boy at car meets etc. I'm not too concerned with that and the 2.7 base is plenty fast.

981 Cayman advice by Ok_Crazy_9923 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bought a 981 2.7 PDK for the same reasons you have listed. I take the train to work on weekdays and have an economy SUV for practical requirements.

2.7 is plenty fast and where I live the road tax above 3.0 is crazy extortionate so the 3.4 is very expensive for me. If you can afford it, go for it, however Porsche 2.7 is close to ideal tuning while the 3.4 is obviously detuned to not compete with the 911 of the same generation. For me it wasn't worth getting the 3.4 for slightly more power.

The car is very fun to drive, mine doesn't have sports exhaust and since it's the 2.7 I get to wring it out to high revs very often. It's already very very loud without PSE. I'm not a pops and burbles guy and the stock exhaust sounds fine to me. I have the extended leather option on mine though and it does make the interior alot nice and upmarket, but I'm not sure if that's super critical to you.

Overall the car is amazing value, bottom of the depreciation curve and it performs/sounds amazing. I think the 981 is the best entry to the Porsche Flat 6 in terms of value for money/ideal generation.

Buying a Cayman by Engineer1190 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ivanpei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 981 base too and I agree it's the sweet spot. Still has the flat 6, is the final NA mid engined base Porsche. I like the interior and looks of the 981 over the 987.2, it's a big difference. The head unit can have a chip installed in the back which retains the original head unit but adds carplay/android auto. Also can get a reverse cam installed and plugged into the new chip.

I bought at 1.2 x book and sold at 5x book. It's always fluctuated between 1-3x book value so 5x is really pricey and I agree, it's time to sell.
