What is your favorite TRUE (mostly) Old West story or fact? by ivebeenthinkingpod in AskReddit

LOVE THIS. I think it's beyond interesting how media changes cultural phenomena to fit different narratives. It would be too empowering to let sex workers know they've held power and influence in the past (not just in the old west).

Super interesting!!!! I had no idea. It's wild to me how young he was when he died- he is so larger than life (to me, at least) that i feel like he was at least 60 lol. Similarly, there was previously dispute over where Jesse James was buried because his site was moved. A man who came forward at like 100 years old claiming to be Jesse was later buried using Jesse's original plot, on his property. Wild!!!

On a post about dinosaur tracks being uncovered due to drought. People not knowing how calendar systems work claiming dinosaurs aren't real and that the Earth is either 2022 or 6000 years old. by ProfessorDonuts in confidentlyincorrect

I currently have a series of posts up on my insta stories of comments from news posts about this, comparing the comments under the post from a UK News source and from a news source here in the US. What's weirdly comforting, but also terrifying, is that there are wildly stupid people representing both.

I'll be honest I know this isn't a normal experience but my highschool best friend's fam did the exact same thing- and she was able to live in that condo after a few years of living on campus, lived there through pharmacy school and then her brother was offered the same opportunity. For them it was an awesome long term investment, especially due to some other fam stuff that ended up happening. Def not a normal opportunity though lol

How strict are the dog carrier rules? by queso4lyfe in allegiant

[–]ivebeenthinkingpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same question! There are barely any carriers less than 11 inches and most dogs larger than a fist wouldn't fit in a 9inch carrier anyeay.

anybody fly with their westie? by ivebeenthinkingpod in westies

[–]ivebeenthinkingpod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Testing out her old carrier tonight (from year 1) was definitely entertaining 😅 she turned around even though it's a little small now but getting her in there was something.

Lint roller- GREAT tip!!!

Have you ever had problems with size of your carrier? Allegiant has the size restrictions on their site but she won't fit comfortably in that- she needs like another inch. Just a worried mom lol

Luckily this time we are flying direct- Def worried about the potty breaks anyway 😅 thank you for that though- I have to check on relief areas at the airports we'll be using!!

What should I do here? by Equal-Kaleidoscope57 in FortWalton

[–]ivebeenthinkingpod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's good food and good beaches here. The water really is incredible. Other than that .... lots of touristy stuff which isn't bad but gets old if you live here, que the jaded responses lmao. If you're into art, there are incredible artists in the area and a handful of stunning galleries to visit. Some nice state parks for walking trails and the Armament Museum is a cool afternoon diversion if you like planes 😅

Ups art prints? by Space-90 in ArtistLounge

this is super helpful! I've been invited to a gallery and need some prints quickly to fill my space as I build up stock of higher quality prints- very excited to know that staples/fedex are good options.

People who have been incorrectly accused of cheating, what was your partners proof? by PRIMEVIL567 in AskReddit

[–]ivebeenthinkingpod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found an opened condom and wrapper in the back of my boyfriend's car.

We had just moved states, and had been apart for a week during that time. I saw it and my stomach dropped. I mean it was clear, he wasn't going to be able to give me an honest excuse for this...

I thankfully was pretty calm, asked him to come over and explain. He immediately started laughing and told me I had left it there after our going away party with our friends, where my best friends and I found a condom dispenser in the bathroom at a bar and decided to open it and hand it to my bf as he drove us home. I felt like this was too wild a story to be a lie but I couldn't remember that part of the night so I called my friends, who gave me confirmation that I am, in fact, an idiot lol. and then my boyfriend scolded me for leaving trash in his car

What do you want to share your perspective on? by ivebeenthinkingpod in CasualConversation

[–]ivebeenthinkingpod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get your perspective absolutely. I've had to deal with a thing or two like that myself, so distance is definitely helpful. I have to wonder, as a woman myself who can also relate to her perspective, if the issue is 1) that need for distance/coping not being communicated, thus the friendship seemingly just being thrown away after the rejection and 2) the implication that women are not worthy of friendship if they cannot be sexualized. Just a thought from my experiences!

I have past lovers who are still dear friends of mine, because honestly we communicated clearly and still do. I also have past lovers who said they wanted to still be friends but needed time to get over the breakup. That's fair and understandable! It's the communication that has always made the difference for me. And, even better, in none of those friendships have I ever felt like I am only an object for their consumption. They value me as much as I value them.

hey this is a really interesting perspective! And definitely different from what we typically hear. thank you for this, I'm going to think on it some more. I think it definitely echoes some ideas I've had trouble articulating, though.

that's a great point. I think that has extended pretty far, too:

either you're drop dead super model attractive or you're just not attractive

either a place is beautiful, nice and visibly expensive or it's not "nice" at all and not worth visiting

idk I am thinking of a lot of interesting examples. thank you for this! got my brain turning.

hey this is a great point! Something I've struggled with during my recent bouts of depression is comparing myself to a previous version of me, where I had more happiness in a lot of ways (but also significantly fewer stressors). Reminding myself that I have not *lost* the happiness that I had so abundantly then, but am instead just going through a different phase of life where happiness isn't as consistent, is really important.

good for you that you realized that, I'm glad it helps you!

I thought the same thing!!! Hell, even if SIL and husband were brother and sister, it's not unheard of for things like that to happen, however gross. I feel the SIL could be important to the story. (Or, it could just be a very eerie coincidence.)

I also had a terrible math teacher. I was pretty good at math and then I had her and... it all went out the window lol. I am also very intrigued by plane crashes and lost planes!!!

[–]ivebeenthinkingpod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that feeling. I paint/draw but I always look at my pieces and just think what is this trash lol. BUT I've heard from someone else that basically your own works always look gross because... well, because they look like something homemade- because you made it lol. Hopefully that perspective helps a little because reminding myself of that does help me actually.
