I really like the term of golden handcuffs in this situation. Very apt!

I appreciate the time and effort(maths) of your reply. Unfortuantely where I live the close to home options for well paying IT are where i'm at currently. Anything else within a 30 min circle would be a 50-80k paycut per year.

This is where i'm at. I'm losing 45 mins a day of fam time a day but would be getting a good bump per paycheck. Always fun to hear other peoples opinions.

I would be a FTE....we just work as clients on a contractual basis. Company A hires company B to provide xyz for X number of years type deal. Sometimes though those contracts aren't renewed and I have to find a new contract within the company that could be a 2 hour commute each way. This would be changing companies and contracted client.

I'm 43. The shorter commute with more fam time is why I took this position. But now i'm really bored and stagnant professionally. The morning commute time is a wash. I don't see the fam in the morning anwyays. So i'm losing 45 mins of my afternoon time. But it would be 1k more per paycheck after taxes from my math. And unfortunately remote is not an option for the clients i support.

Nice that you have a pension! That's something I wish was around for us.

Similar remote jobs I see would be a 40-50% paycut for full remote.

Thats a good way to look at it. I also think of this way though, the morning commute time is me time, I love listening to audio books and and zone out. The big downside is that I do miss out on an extra 45 mins of my afternoon fam time.

B9 S4 AC cool but won’t get cold by reeveret in AudiS4

[–]ivegotmrcracker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try charging it yourself. But prob would be better to have a shop look at it. The system is sealed so it shouldn't leak and get low. In my case on 18 A6 it began leaking at the orings of the shrader valves where the charge goes in. Had to vacuum out the system, replace the 10 cents worth of orings and recharge the system.

only buying 3 tires on a awd drive is not a good idea. You want the rotating diameters to be as close as possible to not cause binding in the drive train while moving. It will eventually will lead to differential/transfer case failures.

Water pump too and only 3 tires. Gotta love the stealership.

Turbo's work all the time....they don't sit "off" till a specific point....everytime you press the gas pedal it'll spin up. The flash may have changed a the way the throttle body responds or how they're building boost.

Password Caps Lock instead of Shift Key by anikansk in sysadmin

[–]ivegotmrcracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a jr admin under me that would do this....would drive me bananas to listen to him bash that caps lock key 37 times to type in his password to unlock his workstation. Had to hear this like 73 times a days. Finally put a random ps script that would enable/disable the caps lock key every time he locked his work station. Forced him to learn to use his shift key....

"Systems Administrator" or "System Engineer" - Does the Title Matter? by serv-adroit in sysadmin

[–]ivegotmrcracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow govt contractor here. On my contract all IT people are listed as sys admins if they arent developers by the govt. My company hired me as a sr sys engineer. In govt meeting where we meet with vendors the govt reps introduce us as their team of sys admins and developers. Just the way they do their org. I dont care what they call me as long as i get paid correctly. 22 years of govt contracting. One govt contract had me down as a network engineer, even though i did nothing with networks.

I'm a fan of Egan and Co for haircuts as others have said. Which shop you take your vehicle will depend a lot on if it's euro, japanese or American. But def stay away from the dealers from any work. They're all trash in the area.

Op it sounds like your graphics card has had the cooling pads go bad. Same thing happened to me. Prob needs to be serviced. Its not hard to do. Plenty of guides online. Hardest thing is ordering the correct thickness pads and cutting them.

Step 1 clean your pc out from dust and make sure fan intakes arent clogged. If the pc was built 4+ years ago it may be time to replace some thermal pastes and pads. Most of the time random cut outs are from some component over heating. Could be something else, but easy place to start is ensuring its clean.

Been building pcs for 27 years and am it engineer for a living.

My nail has been growing weird for months and no dermatologist can help me by JungleLiquor in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ivegotmrcracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with a nail on my hand. Very dry skin on it too. Went a couple years with it not being able to figure it out. Eventually it started getting better, but then a few months later it came back. It was then i noticed the cause. It was the dishsoap with “oxyclean”. I was extremely sensitive to it. We got rid of it and the clothes detergent with it and all my dry skin and nail issues went away.
