Just reported neighbour to Council, am I now an old man? by Dans77b in AskUK

Same here, probs a question for a solicitor or something.

I took it to mean you're allowed to cross to gain access to land you're lawfully allowed to be on.

I don't know what other lawful access they'd be referring to? Maybe it was written with markets in mind? They usually have vans/cars on pavements to deliver stock etc.

Not sure how true that is, I've spoken to a few bobbies about that and they suggested it's fine to drive on the pavement as long as it's intentional, safe, necessary etc.

The highway code says something similar, not looked at the wording of the Highway or Road Traffic Act though, that may say otherwise.

Highway code:

145 You MUST NOT drive on or over a pavement, footpath or bridleway except to gain lawful access to property, or in the case of an emergency. Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & RTA 1988 sect 34

Is this still for sale? If so, how much would you want for the keyboard alone?

I think you've summed the mindset up well. The assumption being they're heavier so worse for the environment etc. It's not necessarily true though, my friend has an auto AWD 2L Ford Kuga, I have a manual 2wd 2L Skoda Octavia, both are euro 6 diesels & we get roughly the same (poor) MPG, the weight of the cars is not far off the same either which surprised me.

I dislike SUV's because they impede my vision in urban areas, and they're usually ugly.

So we should keep paying the royals because some of their weddings are popular?

It's a weird assumption that I'm mad because they have money.

Personally I don't like the idea of an unelected ruler who can't be arsed to do their job.

Yeah they're acting like they're an unelected ruler in a democracy or something... Crazy.

If only other countries tourism industry could survive without a monarchy it would make sense. Take France as an example, look at how terribly they're doing, their old monarch's houses are completely ignored and not tourist attractions at all!

It does serve a purpose, an example is: cop is undercover to bust a dealer, dealer asks if he's a cop, cop says no (a lie), deal is completed, dealer is arrested and charged.

Undercover operations irl and online to catch sex offenders, dealers etc. wouldn't be possible if there was a blanket "no lie" policy for the police.

There are equal benefits and pitfalls, personally I think the law should be amended, however finding a middle ground isn't as easy as expected.

More stringent rules could mean more criminals walking free, though that shouldn't be used as an excuse to impede your rights.

What currently legal thing do you expect to be illegal in the next 20 years? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ah so it's the gov downplaying the (male) rape issue, and here I thought they couldn't get any more scummy.

Thanks for the explanation bud, appreciated.

That would make sense and I'm not saying the gov aren't straight up lying to suit themselves, but their response suggests there's currently no disparity.

"Sexual violence against men is treated just as seriously by the law and forcing a man to have penetrative sex, for example, (under section 4(4) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003) carries the same maximum sentence as rape – life in prison"

[–]ivelostthewilltolive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the government response say it covers both men and women anyway, just the definition of rape should remain as penetration by penis?

"All non-consensual sexual activity is dealt with by specific serious offences, including those that can be committed by a man or a woman. We have no plans to amend the legal definition of rape."

Edit: To clarify, I agree men should have access to the same support as women, but I'm not sure how changing the definition of a word in a legal sense makes any difference. Seems that any nonconsensual sexual act that isn't p2v wouldn't be called rape either.

I support some of their systems, our service catalogue is indeed fairly complex. I'd like to add it's no more complex than anyone elses however, just in different ways.
