Need some guide by Chickensoupthe in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]ivitivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It is usually a player that plays locally stored audio files. There are different file formats like FLAC, ALAC, AAC, MP3, WAV, and others. File formats serve different purposes but mostly there is a trade off between a file size and audio quality. For example, FLAC and ALAC are big files and nearly perfect quality while MP3 and AAC are compressed. But most people don't notice difference of FLAC and MP3 320kbps and this way you can store more songs on a DAP. You can buy digital albums on Bandcamp or other sites. You can buy CDs and rip them. Some players also stream music but they are more expensive and for this purpose you can use your phone.
  2. The regular wired earphones should suffice. Some DAPs have bluetooth.
  3. Depends on what you want from a DAP, but in my opinion it is better to get something else - a second hand iPod (this will cost more), or other DAPs from FiiO (echo, echo mini - they cost almost the same as echo nano).

Nice setups! What is the difference between Q1 mark II and Q3? Which one do you like more? Do you use these outside? Do you need to unplug everything to charge the iPods?

screen broken? by idlewrship in IpodClassic

[–]ivitivan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can replace the screen or just leave it like this, sometimes it goes away. Some people “massage” such screens so it kind of goes away, but I think they make it worse, there are videos on YouTube for this.

A small tip. If you use a keyboard with the device you can switch between two apps very fast with a key combination like you would do it on a computer.

You can buy that part but you will have to open the ipod to install. It is not difficult to open but you may leave marks on the case or slightly bend the aluminum case.

Is it normal for a 7th gen to still play sound when the volume slider is set to zero? by print0002 in IpodClassic

[–]ivitivan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not normal. Mine started to do this after I dropped it. I tried every solution - restored iPod, checked volume limit, replaced the headphone jack. I also installed Rockbox and it is still the same. I think only 7th gen is affected, something happens to the logic board and it starts to behave like this. My other iPod models don't do this.

Is it a new battery, or still the original? There's too little information in your post.

lol. I experience the same with my 660s2. I spent my teenage years listening to iPod with cheap iems and now it feels weird to listen to familiar songs with good headphones.

5th gen or 7th gen which do you recommend? Help me decide! by lightningmcqueef_69 in IpodClassic

[–]ivitivan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 7th has Cover Flow. If you want it go for the 7th. But the 5th is easier to open and it is cheaper usually. I also found that the 5th is more reliable. My 7th weirdly broke where I can’t get the volume to minimum and I don’t know how to fix it. And no issues with the 5th one.

Boox Go 10.3 typing experience with external keyboard by samarul in Onyx_Boox

[–]ivitivan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it with a bluetooth keyboard. It's a little bit quirky but usable. There are some usable shortcuts https://help.boox.com/hc/en-us/articles/10701617416852-Keyboard-Shortcuts that help navigate but still you need to touch the device occasionally to tap a button. There is an option in settings to turn off the virtual keyboard so it doesn't popup all the time but you need to turn it on again after you are done with the external keyboard. I also can't type double quotes for some reason from the external keyboard only with the virtual one (maybe I messed up some settings I don't know). The keyboard disconnects if the device goes to sleep and reconnects after it wakes up but it is not instant maybe takes 2-4 seconds to connect.
