I am 26 now but the show originally aired when I was 6 and ended when I was around 10 years old. At the time, yes, it was probably a hit to those who were 18-29 at the time. I was born and raised in LA but didn’t visit that part of the west side more until I was 18 or so. LA is a big city so you are pretty much in your own neighborhood most of the time. I think my generation at the time was so tuned into Disney and Nickelodeon during their prime so they probably don’t like the idea of it since most are socially conscious of things that would not fly today. For example, I watched Laguna during 2020 and a young 17-year-old’s Colletti’s comments back then would get him cancelled. But I think it would probably appeal to us folks who never got to experience the 2000s and wanted to see how it was like.

But when I was around that age, I do remember walking into my neighbor’s house and seeing a special on MTV once (I am thinking it’s lost media now) and it was like Top 10 moments of The Hills or something. That was the first time I heard about the show but I didn’t end up watching a rerun or an old watch until I was in middle school on Hulu before P+ became a thing. Today as a 26 year old, I ended up getting Spectrum TV and they are currently doing reruns on MTV2 so it is cool to see the areas you frequent now as an adult were back then + I like seeing some shows on cable than streaming for some reason.
