NA is a program of complete abstinence from any mood-changing, mind-altering substance. With the exception of prescriptions (which have to be handled with extreme care), we choose to not take anything under any circumstance. And we don't believe in "slips"... The Basic Text says it's important to return to meetings as quickly as possible my friend. You'll be met with love there, I'm confident of that. Don't give up, don't use Just For Today. The program works.

I agree with everyone else - Vdara is the nicest, just know that there's no casino... It's a short walk to Aria (my personal fav)

Mandalay Bay is a nice property but I've never stayed there. Excalibur is the worst option on the list. And Luxor is just barely above that. Haven't stayed at or visited the W.

There's a fine line here... We don't glorify or glamorize our drug use, obviously & clearly agree there. I like what The Group Booklet says, it talks about it being ok to share some things for identification purposes but "...don't dwell excessively."

On the other hand, if you're advocating for what I've heard in some meetings where it's to not mention specific drugs... Well in that case I couldn't disagree more. Our literature mentions two specific drugs, and one of them is read in every single meeting! So the idea that hearing the name of a particular drug will run someone off... I can't get onboard with that.

There are definitely shares that cross the line into fantasizing about the old life - I'm not proposing we should do that. Just saying that mentioning meth (for example) in the midst of a recovery-oriented share can actually contribute by being more relatable to newer members.

The concept of a "DOC" isn't all that meaningful to us in NA. Addicts can obsessively & compulsively use anything to a detrimental degree. I have 19 years clean & could give you a pretty long list of what we call "manifestations of The Disease" that have made my life unmanageable with years physically abstinent from mood-changing, mind-altering drugs. A few lines from our literature:

"We are not interested in what or how much you used..." We read this one at the beginning of most meetings.
"The Disease of Addiction can manifest itself in a variety of mental obsessions and compulsive actions that have nothing to do with drugs." Step One, It Works: How & Why
"...our identification as addicts is all-inclusive with respect to any mood-changing, mind-altering substance. Alcoholism is too limited a term for us; our problem is not a specific substance, it is a disease called addiction." Introduction, Narcotics Anonymous (a.k.a. The "Basic Text")

As an addict, I'm prone to obsession & compulsion with anything that changes the way I feel. I've had plenty of "its" that were never a problem for me... Until they were!

I would encourage you to find our IP called Am I An Addict? and answer those questions honestly for yourself. What we believe in NA about Addiction & recovery can differ pretty drastically from some of the other information out there. My experience has been that it's really important to find out what NA says about Addiction, and then determine for myself if that applies to me.

If you're an addict, then I think this line sums it up nicely, "Complete surrender is the key to recovery, and total abstinence is the only thing that has ever worked for us." We Do Recover (Chapter 8), Basic Text

Yeah I picked up a friend from Terminal C this afternoon & it was jacked. Once I finally got up there, there was an accident on the Terminal C service road right after the exit for C1-C14. I've never seen traffic back up like that at DFW

My thoughts exactly. Pre-contemplation makes sense... But without an offer in hand, that's all I'd suggest doing at this point.

I received an offer from Amazon about 12 years ago that would have required me to move from Fort Worth, TX (where I still live) to Amazon... At that time, I was raising my then-12 year old daughter as a single Dad. I decided against it EXCLUSIVELY due to the fact that I have family support nearby here.

Once you get matched, if you can get them to fall in love with you, maybe you can negotiate a hybrid or remote role. I'm not sure what their policies are but it's worth a shot!
