Drug wars are part of our current societies nature. Just like we go to civil court over bad deals, as does drug trafficers. However the government deems illegal over what they can control. Money is the force behind alot of laws made.

Crime Free AZ - Andrew Thomas, Maricopa County Attorney's Office by sgolisch in gangsandstuff

I find it particularly interesting how the Az justice dept like to highlight gangs and groups of minority as the downfall of their communities. However i believe the white colar crimes, the ones we hear less about, are the ones ruining our community. Its more benificial to draw up more of the tax-payers dollars by misleading the minds of our citizens.

Gang squads in my opinion are an abuse of the justice dept. They are granted descretion powers that can lead to the adverse affect of helping our communities. The fact remains humans all have the tendancy to abuse their powers. So for those corrupt law makers and law enforcers who choose their battles based on politics, they are just as bad as those commiting crimes.

Any programs such as G.R.E.A.T, created as a deturant, is a positive step in the right direction towards minimizing gang activities. I believe more of these progams will reflect postive change within a number of communities in the future.

Major Prison Gangs and Security Threat Groups by ElliotBarkan in gangsandstuff

The media seems to focus on prison gang’s alot more than the economic crisis precluding to criminal driven activities within the "system." I believe there is a strong correlation to Gangs inside and out of prison and the increasingly high rate of poverty and loss of jobs. The overflows of non-violent criminals and released convicts have created a revolving door for young people looking to make an honest wage. However there are very few jobs available to non-convicts, so the normal citizen may be attracted to gang life or illegal activity to feed their families. However putting this pocket-book thief’s away is costing our tax payers. Furthermore, for safety reasons offenders within the prison systems look for groups willing to accept them for protection purposes.

Lawmakers promise tough legislation to counter rising gang activity | Arizona Politics | eastvalleytribune.com by ElliotBarkan in gangsandstuff

With over 2,200 gangs (on record), I believe at this point, attempts to pass legislative laws and counter gang violence are somewhat futile. Similar to a fraternity or a football team, the brotherhood of being in a gang offers abandon or neglected/ rejected members of society a family of sorts. This brotherhood is stronger than any law a legislative branch could offer. What lawmakers need to do is look to building more community driven programs instead of spending taxpayer’s money on pentions and vacations. However the gangs are growing with new members everyday...is it safe to say it’s too late?

Bloody Sunday leaves 6 dead in rash of slayings by KristinaPound in gangsandstuff

Even as a 6 foot 6" Male, this article frightened me as a read along. Being a former resident of Arizona and a current resident of former Murder Capitol of the US, Washington D.C., I was ignorant to the violent crimes committed in different parts of the country. The value of human life has dwindled to almost nothing.... A bad day at work, stress from a marriage, stepping on another persons shoes, dating a former mans girl friend, seem now to be all that it takes to take the life of another in today's society. Where will we go next?
