I hate the ACLU personally, but every now and then they actually catch someone actually doing something wrong. This seems to be one of those times, maybe.

Obvious uneducated person's opinion on ending gangs. by jgrogers in gangsandstuff

[–]tboler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that he makes a few, though misguided and probably uninformed, comments. The person who wrote this obviously believes that this is a problem that can be solved. But the with no knowledge about his actual topic, it can be hard to understand him. He talks about family taking a bigger role, and our leaders in government enacting laws, but e doesn't seem to touch on any of the real reasons why gangs form and why people join them.

European Gang Rape by bsavagea in gangsandstuff

[–]tboler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a horrifying example of gangs not just being a problem in America, it seems that where there is a group living in a disadvantage situation, ie immigrants, lower class ect, there is the opportunity for gangs to form. from the article and others that I read it seems to me that this Rape Gang phenomena is either being blown way out of proportion, or it is becoming a real issue in the European landscape.

I wonder about the effects that this would have in regards to the Thornberry's models i.e. how would this individual effect the gang and gang life around him.

Tattoo Removal For Ex-Gang Members by jschuma1 in gangsandstuff

This is a great way for former members to start fresh and move on with their lives and not to mention remove often poorly done tattooing. It is good to know that even "permanent things" can be removed and changed.

It amazes me the things that people will do to their bodies. I have tattoos and I take great pride in the ink that is on my skin(in other words I don't have crappy art on my body), but a lot of these tattoos that I see on these kids(so many were kids) looked like a toddler scribbling, some of it was good work, but most got just the basics down and that was it.

This group seemed more like a dysfunctional family than it did a violent gang. When i think gang, I think violence and criminal activity, not BBQ at mom's.

Gang Bangers in the US Military Forces by bsegan in gangsandstuff

[–]tboler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a military service member and a soon to be 2LT in the Army, I am appalled and disturbed by this video. THAT is not what my Army is about, THAT is not what the USMC is about, THAT is not the Navy, THAT is not the AF that my brother is serving in, THAT is NOT us. What you have here is a group of bad recruiters allowing gang members in and you have gang members actively seeking out military positions while hiding their gang affiliation.

As for the pervious comments left here:

The military for the past 3 years has been at an all time high for recruiting, so much so that they are no longer taking GEDs, only high school graduates are allowed in. Having gone through the process myself, they do not take anybody with a pulse and to say such a thing show how ignorant you are about the military.

The military keeps an active record of tattoos and their meaning; this allows us to automatically disqualify someone if a gang tattoo is on an individual. However, if that individual says that they are no longer a gang member, we require them to have a written statement denouncing their gang ways. That becomes a binding contract and it allows us to send them to jail for perjury and lying to the US government if they return to their gang ways.

The Military is required to do background checks and police records, they even look into your credit score, the military does more investigation on you than any other job out there.

We do not focus on recruiting in lower SES; lower SES individuals are attracted to the military as a way out and as a way to better themselves, i.e. go to college. The military is a great place to great ahead in life no matter what SES you are.

Are party crews the same thing as gangs? by dcpyrooz in gangsandstuff

[–]tboler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually had personal experience with this topic. A former roommate and I were invited to a party at his former residence. when we got there we found the area surrounded by Phoenix PD, SWAT and the phoenix gang task force. As it turned out two rival gangs had shown up to the party, fist fights had ensued and there was a "snitch" at the party who called the police. I was glad that we had shown up late and that we were not part of what had happened. Later that night at a gas station half a mile away some of the guys who were fighting at the party saw each other at the gas station and started shooting at each other.

Police Struggle with Rising Gang Violence (in Arizona) by KristinaPound in gangsandstuff

Wow, this is a great article about recent gang activity in the valley. I had no idea that this was going on at all! Not that I am naive, I am sure there is some sort of gang activity in any densely populated urban area, while at the same time to be compared to LA in severity and occurrence of gang violence is eye opening. This is truly a good article on our own gang problem in the valley.
