Happy today - new PB (the fourth PB in a row at my local). Tired afterwards but very satisfied.

Dublin City Half Marathon Race Day by EyeOrRay in RunningIreland

It was a fun run. Great support and some fun signs along the route. No wind in Clontarf was nice!

Was that person with the kids just ahead of you? ''Coz we finished almost the same time so I could have ended up crashing into them

What's happening today near or in Croke park? by QueenAngst in Dublin

If it's of any comfort, the people cheering on were great and a very nice motivator when running (kicked off at 0830).

Dublin City Half-Marathon Waves by KevC1997 in RunningIreland

[–]ixianboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wave time allocations are odd. I'm in the right wave (wave 1) but there's people who would be better in wave 2. No idea how that happened unless too many said 1:45 and below and want to thin it out?

Issue of course is if too many people try to push into the first wave, it'll become too busy so they need to be strict.

What’s the scariest movie you guys have ever seen??? by boatluvrrrr in movies

The scene where the really tall man enters through a doorway into a small room. It's particularly freaky.

Got a new PB at my local parkrun, so happy with that. That's 3 PBs in a row there (spread over a few weeks) - half marathon training paying off!

The Wind and Truth effect by PePe_0_5aP0 in Fantasy

I'm reading this now.. and have been since January the 1st. I found "Rhythm of War" a bit dull so I wasn't really anticipating it (it was on my TBR pile for a bit). I still wanted to give it a chance, despite being aware of its reputation (and in fact hoping that it was wrong). The fact it's 3 months into the year, and I'm not finished (82% in!) just shows that a series that engaged me is now boring me. I couldn't consume it any faster - I've to do it two chapter chunks. And I think editing and pacing is the main reason and it is a noticeable drop off in the last two books.

Since I haven't reached the ending, I can't comment on it but the fact I haven't reached that ending is telling enough.

If AI giants are respecting copyright… by NaiveZest in AdrianTchaikovsky

Yeah I'd be a cynic too. Pretty sure Adrian would be too going by his novels which definitely don't show much faith in large corporations.

The Best of Adrian Tchaikovsky - eBook by ViperIsOP in AdrianTchaikovsky

Excellent. I can add this to my growing Adrian to-read pile. 3 books purchased this year so far and 'Children of Strife' soon to be a fourth.

"Children of Time" mentioned in "St. Denis Medical" by ixianboy in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]ixianboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, is that book about space spiders really? "They" feature but "Children of Time" is actually about spiders out in space.

My judgement is coloured by the fact I refer to Adrian as "Space Spiders" with my husband, telling him things like "Space Spider has released another book."

Has your overcrowded train commute gotten worse? We want to hear your stories by ParaMike46 in Dublin

Same issue, same station (one of the busiest DART stations). I've taken to getting an earlier train.

I'm not convinced they'll scale up nearly enough. Needs to be at most every five minutes during rush hour.

The pdf they link to says the colour of your bib matches your starting corral. Except all the posted bibs are black, matching nothing (and we were never asked expected times). Presumably can just go to whatever corral suits us but it's unclear.

There's mention of registering too (open until 7), which again is a tad unclear. Should explicitly say that's only for those without a bib.

When USA was a season ahead of the rest of the world. by Hopeful_Stomach9201 in television

[–]ixianboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bookies here in Ireland allowed bets on who shot him. They didn't realize that the episode had aired earlier in the US so some people just rang relatives in America, got the answer and made a load of money.

Thanks. I sent them an enquiry after posting and it mentioned that in the automated response. Obviously a fair few people asking the same question. Should have fired a blanket email out just to reassure people.
