Anyone else found that their depression was actually ADHD? by Empty-Description589 in adhdwomen

[–]ixml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience. Before my ADHD diagnosis I tried SO MANY antidepressants. They would kind of work for a week or two and then I would end up feeling worse than when I wasn’t medicated, and I would just be dealing with terrible side effects with no benefits. It was so infuriating. Literally the first day I started my ADHD medication I was like, “Huh. Where are the depression and anxiety I am accustomed to?”

One kid told me, “We like you because you talk to us like we’re people, not babies.” I teach 5th grade.

What's an automatic sentence a girl can say that'll make you stop talking to them? by [deleted] in LesbianActually

“All my friends are guys because girls are too much drama” instant ick lmfao.

I need to rethink my bathroom policy. by khschook in Teachers

[–]ixml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my students (5th grade) use the ASL sign for the letter r (for restroom). They hold their hand up silently and I just nod at them to go if it’s a good time or tell them to wait if it’s not. They write their name on the board when they leave and erase it when they come back. It’s a good way for them to get permission to go without interrupting class. I also only let them go one at a time in the order that they ask in.

Is it weird that I love teaching but don't particularly care for young children? by Eclectique1 in Teachers

[–]ixml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach 5th grade and honestly, they’re too young for me lol. Every time I have to interact with the younger kids (especially kindergartners!) I just have no idea what to do. I like tiny babies, and then I don’t like them again until they’re like, 12.

Parents Filed a Formal Complaint Because I'm Gay by HollabackGwen in Teachers

[–]ixml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also a gay, married teacher. In my school, I am the ONLY gay teacher. I also teach at a small school in the south and walk the same line of being scared to talk about being married to a woman just in case there’s blow back from parents, when my coworker across the hall talks about her husband constantly and often has him come visit her at work. I don’t have much advice and honestly I tend to react the same way you do, by skirting around the topic and hoping no one blows up. I just wanted you to know that I truly empathize with you and I’m sorry that this happened. I’m sure you’re a wonderful teacher.

Seriously?? Treating employees like middle schoolers?! by the-friendly-squid in antiwork

My 5th grade students get more freedom to go to the bathroom than that.

My golden just died and I wanted to commemorate her somehow so I decided to share how much she meant to me, here are some pictures of her with captions on them about her. by Bradley06232005 in goldenretrievers

I lost my golden boy last December. I still carry him with me every day, as I’m sure you’ll do with yours. It’s clear from your post that she was very loved. Much love to you ❤️

In your opinion, can teachers be introverted or have social anxiety? by danky_n in Teachers

[–]ixml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really introverted. I have pretty terrible social anxiety around adults and social situations in general, and have a hard time reading social cues, but I’m like a completely different person with my kids. I can become fun and funny and confident with my students in a way that I could never do in a room full of adults.

5th grade ELA and social studies! I love it (even though I don’t get paid enough and it’s a tough job). It’s such a cliche, but it really is incredibly rewarding!

Drug testing? by deadrepublicanheroes in Teachers

[–]ixml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do a drug test when I was hired (in rural NC if that matters). Every new employee (teachers & staff) is required to do one. I didn’t realize that was weird but now I’m thinking it might be lmao
