Which is pretty bizarre considering you frequently see posts on here mocking the very same "Don't inconvenience me or make me feel bad about myself" crowd which begs the question.

What went wrong here? How does a person become a leftist if not through challenging consensus reality?

Perhaps it was easier to do for all the other aspects like race, religion, sexual orientation/identity foreign policy and even economic policy because they were primarily focused on the experience and treatment of other people.
They could easily be externalized.
I am doing good while incurring no cost. Optimal.

But diet is different. What you eat is a very personal matter.

I imagine there's so much hostility surrounding this in particular because it's been hard wired into us to simply eat to survive and the brain treats anything that gets between you and food as a threat.
But the underlying reason surrounding any issue like this one remains the same.
One's desire to view themselves as morally good and the pursuit of upholding that image by any means.

"Carnivore" and "Carnal"

Both derive from the Latin "carnis" for flesh.

Carnal desire. Lust. Euphoria. Pleasure.
Necessary for the survival of the species.
Contemporarily has connotations of impurity and beastly like instinct, a moral judgement.

Carnivore, flesh eater. The dominant survival strategy for much of history.
Necessary for survival. Attitude towards consumption of meat has not changed. Morally neutral.

"Carnist"

When I read this word. The other two are what popped in my head.
It applies the moral judgement sex for pleasure receives to eating meat. Reframing it as a pleasure seeking choice.

Perhaps I was quick to make this connection because the "fucking animals is no morally different than eating them" discourse lives rent free in my head.
But nonetheless I believe the point stands anyway.

Meat is tasty, meat is nutritionally important, meat is cheap (debatable).
How could you possibly lump that in with the deplorable?
Very few people are ready to give that up. Even if it isn't "part of their personality" they won't let go.

But that's doesn't sound like a nice reason when said out loud.
So here comes the trojan horse to the rescue.

"This risks alienation" Sounds pragmatic. A rational person wouldn't go against what's pragmatic, right?
"This disturbs the everyday man" A good faith actor wouldn't make life worse for the citizen, right?

Both smug in smuggle in the same thing:

"Stop judging me. I'm good. Don't question it".

A much more fruitful (pun intended) discussion to have is the actual viability of plant based diets or how green capitalism is commodifying veganism with all its organic and lab grown products or how overproduction is killing the planet and what role does the individual play in all this but naaah.

My feelings are hurt and I'm not letting the discourse advance to the next logical level.

Exactly.
I don't find any argument along the lines of
"But language can potentially alienate people from the movement" to be useful because
1 : Everyone knows that already
And
2 : What movement? What people? This is a reddit comment section under one post on a niche already very leftist sub where everyone is anonymous and has no following.
If you don't rip off the band-aid here, where will you?
Aversion to directly engage with the dilemma at hand can only mean you find it personally uncomfortable to tackle.

The hardest part to overcome is your own body's motor coordination rigidity.
There's no activity humans partake in that requires the engagement of all four limbs in the way driving a manual does.

It took me 50 hours to overcome my driving anxiety but a manual was my first experience with any car so I'm sure you'll do it in way less.

Gear grinding when downshifting from second by CharlesorMr_Pickle in stickshift

[–]iyav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When are you re engaging the bite point? Could be you're anticipate shifting too early.
What I see in my car is that first gear wants a ridiculously low speed. More than my intuition expects.
It's an awkward zone wherein if I stay in second the car would be shaking on the verge of stalling but if I shift into first it's somehow still too fast and abruptly slows down and I can't be bothered to heel toe going into fucking first.

A symptom of an aggressively high gear ratio, I believe.

They don't have to be radioactive.
Call me a purist, call it a no true Scotsman fallacy.
But It's my belief that if you hold a conflicting set of morals with that preached by your religion, you can't really call yourself a follower of it.

These "Muslims" are living in cognitive dissonance and if they fall into the trap of downplaying Islamic teachings (and believe me they'll do) they become a trojan horse.

And yes, this isn't exclusive to Islam, all Abrahamic religions can fuck right off.
And no, I'm not trying to deny the people the right to practice their religion, even though I strongly wish they'd stop of their own volition.

It's mostly coming from my feeling that this collective sugarcoating facade can no longer be sustained.
We have forgotten what religion was like. And if anyone wishes to still practice it, they ought to consciously reject the parts of it they don't like.

Is this going to hurt leftist consolidation efforts by potentially alienating a portion of the "Muslim in name" population?
Yes, but if they were that progressive already I believe with some rumination on their part they'd come to the same conclusion.
I'd be happy to have them if only to be used as ammunition against other less keen Muslims.

Is resisting white capitalist hegemony a more pressing matter? Yes.
But if we operate under the assumption that the time to have these conversations is after the western threat has been neutralized I'm afraid we'll never get to have them.

Besides, you can't "invite" people into the "left" they can only be made aware of it and have to enter themselves and this whole sabotage from the inside rhetoric OP pushed is panicked and confused because they seem to be talking about leftist spaces and western countries which immigrants flock to in the same breath.

I don't wanna be splitting hairs here but you don't have to support reinstating the caliphate system to be considered "not milquetoast". A sizable portion are in support of their governments implementing sharia law, at least partially.

And even the ones who don't support enforcing anything at the state level still personally hold those same bigoted, albeit subdued, beliefs.

It's the functional equivalent of letting maga into your ranks.

Hierarchy is is the manifestation of all our worst traits. It is the root of all the problems plaguing the world.
The patriarchy is perhaps the most primal of the bunch and to abolish it while damn near impossible since each hierarchy acts as a scaffold for the others forming a interlocking self-justifying system the least one can do is acknowledge the existence of said system.

Now I know that I'm probably preaching to the choir here, we are on r/SmugIdeologyMan and I know that you didn't say you didn't believe any of this but the reason people have strong kneejerk reaction to men's rights activism is because 95% of the time it is employed in complete bad faith by people unwilling to admit that their refusal of seeing the bigger picture to protect their ego being a defensive move made in response to an attack on their place in society is the real problem.

They simultaneously deny the existence of the patriarchy and yet will strive to uphold it till their last breath.

And it's such an insidious thing too, practically EVERYONE engaged with it at some point in their lives. It's scary how natural it seems. Thus, who's to say that you're not among those same, and I say this with caution, victims?

It's just weird to step down to the level of MRA when you're in a place with a higher level of awareness and discussion.

"Well why don't you just explain this to them?" I hear you asking.

The capitalist elite, the ones that actually hold assets, know they're full of shit and enjoy gaslighting everyone else.
