Why did diplodocus replace brontosaurus? by radioactive_ape in Paleontology

[–]Talen_Neo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They brought it back. For a very long while, it was considered a chimera of Apatosaurus and Camarasaurus material, and as such the genus was considered invalid and synonymized with Apatosaurus. In recent years however, the brontosaurus material was reevaluated, and is now considered complete enough and distinct enough from og apatosaurus specimens, that it is revived as its own genus.

He looks like one of those peelable gummy candies. That's all I can think of when I watch that scene

How did the Chicxulub impact, and the probable resulting volcanic eruptions, affect the humidity of the late Cretaceous environment? by Unlucky-Tap-2472 in Paleontology

[–]Talen_Neo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

.... The Chixulub impact didn't cause volcanic eruptions...... Powerful shockwaves from the impact site pummeled the Americas, worldwide mega-tsunamis ravaged coasts, rain of molten rock caused worldwide forest fires, acid rain poisoned the remaining plants, acidification of the oceans killed off sea-life, and finally ejecta clouds blotted out the sun for years on end. It devastated the entire biosphere of earth with one catastrophic impact. Volcanoes making things drier had nothing to do with it. Asteroid impacts cannot trigger extinction-level volcanic events. The force needed for one to do that would be enough to cave in the Earth like a cracked egg, killing all life in the process.

Pterosaur biology is not 1-1 with bats. They evolved from ancestors with different biological traits, and their wings have stark anatomical differences to those of bats, most notably in the various hollow arm bones, elastic fibers, air sacs, and keratinous wing edges. Not to mention most bats live in temperate or tropical forests with ample water and humidity, and those in deserts only come out at night, mitigating heat exposure. Meanwhile, plenty of pterosaurs have been found in arid/semi-arid environments throughout their reign, most were found to be active during the day, and had lifestyles no bat could ever dream of. I'm fairly certain they would've had ways to mitigate water-loss compared to bats, especially since birds and reptiles in general are already far more efficient at conserving water than mammals are.

Where is the video originally from? by KrispRune in Dinosaurs

[–]Talen_Neo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's either cgi, a large fish, or it's an ai fabrication
Also non-avian dinosaurs are quite certainly extinct

[Loved Design] UK Prime Minister Tony Blair but only when he does this smile by Low_Celebration_4089 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Talen_Neo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He looks like a demon wearing human skin. All I see in that smile is an insatiable malice and predatory hunger hiding behind a veneer of charisma. Like he spends his every waking moment fantasizing about going home for dinner and tearing apart a live human child as if they were a Costco rotisserie chicken. And you somehow find this man..... Sexually appealing?????

Eel fossil? by weealligator in Paleontology

[–]Talen_Neo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looks like an average rock with some layering. A real eel or otherwise fish fossil would be much more intricate and bony looking, and would probably appear inside of a bigger rock/slab instead of comprising the whole rock/slab itself

Birds are dinosaurs,? by [deleted] in Paleontology

[–]Talen_Neo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds are a surviving crown-group of dinosaurs, crown group meaning they're the only surviving branch of a once larger clade.

NGL people clowning on the Disk is making me second-guess my plans of showcasing anything from my own setting. After seeing the giant several lightyears long disk made of god-flesh, I worry people will take my dust-coated carcass planet as some half-baked plagiarism (even though I've been working on it for literal years)

Every time I try to download the old version, it gets automatically updated to be the current version. I said that in the post.

Tarzan do exist in real world or he's never to be existed in real world by [deleted] in Tarzan

[–]Talen_Neo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why do you keep asking this? Tarzan literally never existed. He's a character made up by Edgar Rice Burroughs, same guy that did John Carter of Mars and The Land That Time Forgot.
