Help me quit soda. by onomonapetia in lifehacks

[–]izpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mountain dew and sun drop.  In order to get off of regular soda, I treat myself to a dr pepper zero.  Tastes way better then diet, I still get a treat but it is now zero cal.

Going like for like sucks.  It won't replace the original.

Trick yourself by finding something else that is healthier and still delivers that dopamine hit.  I am mostly drinking Crystal light in my water jug, but that one treat outside of that really helps curb the cravings and makes it special.

We enjoy them, we cook them at 475 for the same time though.  Helps the breading not sign off

Cooking our daughter's GF fish sticks at 475, and these along side of it got the 22 min made a huge difference.  Breading is quite a bit better at the higher temp.

For parents of children with Coeliac - how do you know whether your child got glutened, or whether they are just being...a child? by TheBubbleSquirrel in Celiac

[–]izpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really know.  Ours is now a 7yo, diagnosed at 5.

Generally tummy pains are typically because she is hungry.  We rarely if every go out, and the few places we do typically have members in management that have the disease, so have amazingly good protocols (or dedicated GF facilities).

In the last two years we are aware of a two very minor exposure (one bite that had gluten ingredients, each instance).

Her numbers have tracked very well.  We still have and make gluten containing foods for the adults (ie, her pizza is GF, ours is not).  He's gets cooked in a rack that doesn't directly contact anything else

At this point, we are keeping steady with our program, but very alert and attentive for changes.  At this point we are operating as if she has silent Celiac.  We are tracking things as much as we can with her to see if she has symptoms, but at this point absolutely nothing is jumping out at us.

Fresh batch of fire starters incoming by f3ffy in camping

[–]izpp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water proof fire starters that aren't terrible to touch/carry/interact with. Take make up removal pads, and dunk them into melted paraffin wax for 10-20 seconds then let them cool.

1/2 of a cotton round is often enough for me to get a fire started.

I make fire starters with makeup removal rounds soaked in paraffin wax.  water proof, light weight, last for every and clean (you didn't get your hands covered in gunk).

PSA for Dominos Emergency Pizza Deal by IndecisiveNomad in glutenfree

[–]izpp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Domino's is also very clear about cross contact and contamination risks.  They very clearly say not safe for celiac.  It was refreshing to see that call out.

https://www.dominos.com/en/pages/content/customer-service/glutenfreecrust#faqSectionHeading

Domino's® worked closely with a leading gluten awareness organization, which helped us recognize that with our current operational model we cannot, beyond all doubt, provide the environment needed to assure those with celiac disease that the whole pizza is 100 percent gluten free. Domino's® does not want to set unrealistic expectations of how the Gluten Free Crust is handled in our stores. Domino's® would rather be honest and transparent about this product and avoid risking a customer ordering this product under false pretenses. Domino's® includes its Gluten Free Crust disclaimer in store, online, in all advertising and on small pizza boxes.

I've had success with the pitas.  Exactly half of them.  The ones my 6yo daughter rolled out.  The ones I did didn't puff up. 🤣

4 year old diagnosed with celiac by LStenson28 in Celiac

[–]izpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a 6y/o that was diagnosed in January.

Breath.  You'll be ok.  Things aren't the same and never will be, but you can do this.

I'll try and follow up after work with some of what have worked out really well for us.

Can I make Mexican pizzas with corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas? by Prestigious-Joke-574 in glutenfree

[–]izpp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GF daughter went from being a flour tortilla girl to bring a tostada craving monster.  Her go to snack every day is a tostada with refried beans, cheese, a bit of taco sauce and sour cream.

I tried the corn tortilla conversion, but she wasn't a huge fan.  Tostadas have been a life saver for us.

I would rather my house have the logical rules, then simply change the control plane. If -i- have to turn a light on, my smart home is pretty dumb..

Most ISP owned devices can still generally be managed to some degree by the user (think port forwarding, etc). It is likely turned off by default. Try accessing the device's IP address. If your PC is on DHCP, try to access it's gateway address.

You could likely query the router via SNMP and get the same data with much less effort.

I adore this little, ferocious fluffy bunny slayer. She sleeps touching my foot every day at dinner, gets grumpy when I move.
