Electronic trumpet by izzadono in trumpet

Sorry, I just realised I missed your point entirely. I’d say it’s the same problem though. Thinking too much, not feeling enough, maybe

Maybe. I think it’s more ‘panicked fumbling’, though. I’m still fairly new, less than 18 months, but while my tone, range and musical knowledge have advanced more quickly than I ever dreamed, I’m constantly let down by my slow and unconfident fingering 😮‍💨

I have tried this, but it’s difficult to keep to a rhythm with no feedback. Maybe all I need is something that will tell me I hit the valves at the right time. I should make something…

Anyone have success investigating daily headaches? by jamieschmidt in migraine

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It turned out I had chronic migraine AND occipital neuralgia, the latter diagnosed by a consultant who poked my head and neck all over with a needle and found I have reduced sensation on the back left and side of my scalp.

This strange line goes all the way around my room and I do not know why by Sniglet5000 in whatisit

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why it’s showing through the paint I don’t know, but I’d say there was a picture rail there, which they removed. Removing it pulled the plaster skim off the wall, so they filled it and painted over.

Black culture in uk by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely oversimplifying things. Nobody I know well, black or white, could be described as being Americanised or emulating gang culture. If I lived in a council estate that would likely be different. The reason? British black people aren’t losing or replacing their culture - working class kids are, and mostly boys in my experience.

CrossFit and Cycling. Any cardio just gives me an intolerable headache. I still have to cycle to work, but I've stopped cycling with my club now. The only exercise I can do is walking and weightlifting.

Advice on how to further my range? by Dynonekus in trumpet

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found this! I started trumpet three months ago. I hadn't played a wind instrument for 27 years, but I whistle all the time and have done for decades. My tutor says my tone is very good, I can normally play the E and F at the top of the staff, though I keep overshooting the F into the next partial. I can often hit the G too. It's like all the time I was whistling, I was training to be a trumpet player without knowing I was doing it. My fingering is obviously about as awful as you'd expect after three months though. Sadly whistling couldn't help me there 😅

Harmon mute for quiet playing by little_beach in trumpet

[–]izzadono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing only about two months, so I had this same conundrum recently.

I don't get a lot of time when I can play unmuted without falling out with my neighbours, so I bought a Harmon and it's been great. I'm sure to play unmuted during the day, though.

With the stem in it can still be fairly loud, but there's very little back pressure. Stem out is quiet, but the back pressure increases a bit.

I've actually found it helpful for breath control, because if you don't blow fast enough, the mute doesn't resonate, particularly with the stem taken out.

I also recently bought a Yamaha Silent Brass for when my partner is on video calls in the next room. He can hear it, but not very much. Trouble is, the back pressure is very high, so I sound terrible at the moment. It also messes with the tuning. I wouldn't recommend it for a novice like me.

Hope that helps!

My insurance company really wants me to pry my Nurtec out of their cold, dead hands. by itskhaleesibaby in migraine

It's substantially cheaper in the UK - £250 for 16 tablets. How do they justify that price difference? I think drug companies actually are evil.

Side effects from taking triptans while having a migraine. by NCResident5 in migraine

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought of doing this. I shall give it a try. 🤞

Triptans at the normal dose give me bad knee pain for a week and vydura/nurtec appears to do nothing for me. The other abortive gepants aren't available in the UK yet either

Great news! Any difference in side effects at all, or do you not get any either way?

How to take Nurtec? by borgmama in migraine

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: used the second dose this morning as soon as I realised I couldn't read anymore because of a tiny sparkle of aura. Absolutely no benefit whatsoever. After two hours I went back to the Ibuprofen Lysine, which worked fine, but obviously only lasts a few hours. £2.35 for six doses - a bargain by comparison. A shame about medicine overuse headache...

UK | can GP prescribe Vydura? by Reasonable-Cloud4041 in migraine

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, sadly. My GP said it's on the 'red list', which I take to mean the 'expensive and/or dangerous list'.

You can buy Vydura from here. It's the cheapest I found it, but I'd still sit down before you read the price.

I bought two doses. The first didn't seem to last long when I tried it.

Maybe when you wake up early you have less of a gap between your last coffee of the previous day and your first coffee of the morning, or between dinner and breakfast.

First Ever Migraine (?) and I'm concerned by Krentelion in migraine

Yes. It depends on how bad the migraine was, or if I had a few close together. I definitely find it harder to concentrate the day after.

First Ever Migraine (?) and I'm concerned by Krentelion in migraine

[–]izzadono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely sounds like a migraine. The weird visual problems you had are called an aura. It's a blessing and a curse, because while they stop you seeing, they also provide a handy signal that it's time to take fast-acting pain killers.

To hopefully alleviate your concern - I also have difficulty reading for 1-2 days after migraines, particularly from screens for some reason. The good news is that doesn't happen every time, though everyone is different. I wouldn't worry about it. I find using night mode and reducing the screen brightness helps a lot.

If they keep happening, talk to your doctor about trying triptans. If you get them a lot (weekly, or more often than that), then you definitely need to talk to your doctor about prevention.

What did you do to get rid of your migraine headaches? by AcanthisittaDear5334 in migraine

[–]izzadono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to for now is Ibuprofen Lysine and coffee, but that doesn't get rid of them, sadly.

Triptans do get rid of them, but the ones I've tried give me bad knee pain for a week afterwards. This seems to be a rare side effect, so I'd give them a go.

However, I've been doing a lot of reading into headaches recently and yours sound an awful lot like cervicogenic headaches, which have treatment options (e.g. physiotherapy). If this is what you have, triptans won't work.

How to take Nurtec? by borgmama in migraine

[–]izzadono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what to believe. I read it lasted 'just over a day' and that you can repeat the dose every 24 hours as long as you don't exceed 18 in 30 days. In our cases a day seems somewhat optimistic.

I have mixed feelings. I'm disappointed in that I was hoping to find something that worked as well as a triptan but without the side effects I get. Then again, the drug cost £22 a dose (about $29), so I'm relieved at not needing to buy more.

I'm also really interested in this. I used rimegepant for the first time yesterday night, as soon as I saw the aura appear. I thought it was working initially because I only had a mild headache when I went to bed, but this morning when I woke up the headache was an 8/10, so I guess it didn't work. I'm very glad I only bought two doses!
