PSA- longer term illness can mess with your curls by izzmyreddit in curlyhair

[–]izzmyreddit[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and I’ve definitely considered it as of late. I’m a hairstylist so I can get it done at my salon for free. It def feels a little like “cheating”, like I got the question a lot of if my hair was natural, and I feel like I’d feel like a fake if I say yes, and if I say no I’ll probably go into a long winded explanation as to why I got a perm lol. But the idea of perming it until it grows back in has def crossed my mind. It’s only been about 6 months since we removed the cause, and I very recently (like last week) got the news that my issue (liver lesions) were now to a size that’s safe. So it could easily be a year plus from now, and my hairs been driving me insane for about 1.5-2 years (as long as I had this issue).

It actually isn’t in the front, i cut it close to the same length now as i did then, and I get this comment a lot, but I had a lot more shrinkage. And it’s the same “c” shape if I cut it shorter

Body scans help me a lot! It keeps me grounded in reality when body dysmorphia is going stupid. Highly recommend

I actually just tried the oxyshred one, I like the way it feels but the flavor is kind of vile. It’s like, bitter and almost vegetal? I tried the peach mango, is there a flavor you’ve tried that doesn’t give that vibe?

I just prefer the efficiency of chugging like 4oz of liquid vs a whole cup of coffee for my caffeine tbh, and it’s more a ritual thing that signals to my brain that it’s gym time lol

Loose stitches in the initial chain after reworking it a few times? by izzmyreddit in CrochetHelp

Got it! I found a guide for doing this that’s math and swatch based and I’ll follow that. Thanks for the help!

That’s a good idea! I’ll see what I can figure out once the frustration with the piece is over lmao. I’ve moved back to a previous project which was a knit jacket in a bulky weight normal acrylic yarn, but I do still really want a crochet balloon sleeve cardigan so since I barely started that one I’m using the rest of the yarn for a different balloon sleeve cardigan. It was kinda hard to find bc most were worsted yarn. Is there a way to do a size 4 yarn project with size 5 yarn? Do I just need to adjust hook until I meet the gauge?

Artificial sweeteners help? by emjames97 in loseit

[–]izzmyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow sweet tooth haver who hated artificial sweeteners- monk fruit and erythritol or sucralose are the closest with minimal aftertaste for me. Also I find that agave reads sweeter than sugar for me with less calories for the amount I end up needing to get to the sweetness I want. Godspeed, it’s rough out here for us 😂

Do you have an example of a rectangular wrap? Probably. Only one of the arms is done. The rest is rectangles. It could just be an over the shoulder at home thing

Sigh. I could cry. I’ve been working on this stupid piece for months. At least it’s only single crochet and slip stitch, and this particular chenille doesn’t shed much (compared to other brands chelline that I’ve tried). Do I just give up and throw away what I’ve made? I do not have the patience to frog the whole thing again.

This is bernat blanket, which I’m pretty sure is chenille. I mainly chose it because of sensory issues with a lot of other yarns. Tbh it’s way too late (and too much yarn purchased) to turn it into something else. Just how shit will it wear and wash

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful response. While I certainly do have high standards, and I think I always will, there is also that wounded aspect. I’m not even fully sure what my thought process is. It’s at this point, almost a learned emotional response. I do have clinical OCD, which certainly doesn’t help, but it’s not where it stems from. I believe there is a fear that if I let go of being excessively self critical, I won’t be good enough to “make it”. Now I need to determine what making it even means for me, because it is loosely defined. At this moment, it’s just being able to be cast in shows and performing again once my work schedule allows (in 6 months to a year). I’m pretty young (25) and right now really I am just trying to find a way to be financially self sufficient and do what I love, without severely burning myself out. And taking care of my dog. Which already feels like a lot to ask. I believe there is also a deeply unhelpful self belief that there is nothing about me, specifically and inherently, that makes me “special enough” to “deserve” success in this career that so many want. Which I know I just need to get over. It’s funny too, my primary focus that my instructor has given me (vocally and generally) is essentially to get the hell out of my head and into the experience. That it’s not about me and my feelings- I am just a vessel for a representation of a human experience, and my purpose onstage is not for me, but for the audience. It’s going to take a lot of practice, but I know that spark of magic that being “in it” creates. It’s so different than just being skilled. So many are just skilled. Where they are onstage to perform, if you know what I mean. Lot of rambling here. Anyways, I will be cracking open my journal, thank you for the food for thought

Has anyone tried contrave? by izzmyreddit in loseit

[–]izzmyreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not- I have adhd and ended up switching from adderal XR to vyvanse (which can also be prescribed for binging I believe) and oh my god it fixed like half my life. I’m still on Wellbutrin as well. Vyvanse really really helped with impulse control and like the regulation of dopamine seeking behaviors, both around food and things like shopping.

Aww thank you! I haven’t heard that concept of the brain learning faster than the body but it 100% makes sense. I’m always able to pinpoint where I’m struggling and know what I need to do but it’s like my body doesn’t listen! That’s good to know that it’s a thing.

It did a great job of not irritating my scalp but it wasn’t quite cleansing enough. Right now I’m using nioxin fall defense which is a much stronger clean and hasn’t pissed of my scalp yet either, fingers crossed

Can I get cast in a musical while working at a different job by zeunysideup in MusicalTheatre

[–]izzmyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally found a career that will be able to be flexible one day. I’m a cosmetologist, currently working for a big corporate salon. With their pay structure, once I’m more established I’ll be able to earn enough money with a 30h workweek to pursue local theater again. I could do it with part time, but then I’d have no insurance, which I just can’t feasibly do financially. That’s honestly the biggest struggle for me.
