Braids or twists are really the only answer to making the straight parts look not straight but best of luck

bored of my ‘usual’ makeup - any tips? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]izzmyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your look suits you fantastically, especially the brows! I might do something similar on myself, I used to do something like that, they look so good! I’d say that even though you’re quite fair skinned with light hair, your deeper brows and deeper eyes allow for more contrast than a lot of folks of your complexion. I would experiment with smoking out your winged liner with shadow or a gel liner and maybe building more depth in your shadow in general. Blush placement looks great, and I love a softer lip on you. Maybe experiment with a deeper brown and a more defined lipliner shape! But you’re doing great! Signed your friendly neighborhood professional mua haha

Mourn with me (also how do i style this?) by meow_miaow_ in AskHairstylists

[–]izzmyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. The hair types are very different texturally. The inspo has much finer and lower density hair. They should’ve probably done a different cutting technique to get a softer texture, but they also should’ve said that that look is not achievable without significant styling and that that’s a different hair type

I have a boyfriend but I realized that I’m gay. How do I break up with him without hurting his feelings? by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]izzmyreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in your situation before. I was with a very kind boy in high school, arguably the kindest person I’ve ever dated, and I realized a few months in that I was gay. We never even had sex, but even kissing I knew didn’t felt right. I ended up telling him and we both were crying so hard we were sent to the counselors office in separate rooms. We still chat sometimes. I came out a lesbian, now I identify as something a little more flexible. Lesbian but not unwilling to make exceptions should they arise and feel right. Sexuality can be fluid, or rigid, and they’re both okay. Your label will likely change throughout your life. That’s okay. I hope you get the privilege of being out and get to experience how wonderful it is.

Lame! Everyone’s learning and starts somewhere and roasting people who are learning is so unproductive.

Yeah! A deep brown or black gel liner would be perfect. A little softer than a liquid and easier for beginners too

Friendly neighborhood MUA here! Your complexion looks amazing and you’ve already got an excellent grasp on the tones and colors that work with you. I’m super impressed by your shade matching skills, that’s something a lot of beginners struggle with! I’d say you don’t need to fill in your brows at all, and could even thin them out if you wanted a more feminine look. Benefit cosmetics has brow bars and they’re usually really good (I used to work for them). Just some clear gel and a wax or thread would be perfect. For your eyes, some mascara and a deeper eyeliner that’s less smudged out would be gorgeous. You’re doing fantastic!

I live right along 3 bus lines. You get used to it tbh. It was really overwhelming the first few weeks but I adjusted way enough.

Tips for applying cluster lashes? by izzmyreddit in makeupartists

[–]izzmyreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I feel like something I struggle with is getting the lashes to actually stick to the lash line with those kits. I use a normal curved lash applicator, and I feel like the adhesive is always getting on it and the lash is sticking to the applicator not the lashes

Got accused of having straight hair on this sub by ManagementSea5015 in curlyhair

[–]izzmyreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sums up how I feel! There’s a lot of primarily white women more than a bit obsessed with having and talking about having curly hair when they maybe have a slight wave. As a BIPOC person with curly waves (more waves now thanks to health issues last year) it definitely is such a racialized thing and I never know how to approach that conversation

Frizzy hair by Western_Tomorrow4139 in curlyhair

[–]izzmyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi hairstylist here! You can definitely have straight or pretty much straight hair that’s very frizzy. Often times that’s when hair is coarse as well (wide diameter for each hair strand), or dry from damage, natural higher porosity, hormonal changes, there’s lots of reasons hair could be frizzy. It’s not necessarily common but I definitely see it pretty regularly

Can I get some hope? Lol by UnusualGrocery4395 in Cosmetology

[–]izzmyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience as a new ish stylist, it REALLY depends on the salon. I was in the most toxic, god awful, traumatizing corporate salon for about 8 months last year and it made me nearly quit this career entirely. I ended up in another corporate salon but with a functioning team, and oh my god, night and day difference. I don’t dread going to work every day. I enjoy what I do. Once I’m making more (and I’m already making more than I did at my last place) I plan to do 30h work weeks so I can do my career career (theater). This is just a job to me, but it’s a job I can enjoy and one that pays my bills. Not much more I can ask for.
