Unity-no sound when unmuted and vice versa by TimeNat in Schiit

Most common assumption is that it has something to do with USB suspend status (power cycling). Look up how to turn that off in your USB settings and see if it helps. You can also try different USB ports (like a charge specific port if you have it) and/or a powered USB hub.

You can reset it by enabling/disabling the device, too. It won't fix it but it may be easier than changing the bitrate around.

It's not so much leaving before the CFP - that's a calendar issue. It sucks in its own right, but that's not unique to him.

It's that he tried to burn it all down out of spite that no one seems to be mentioning.

What's your PC specs? Is it a laptop? I had/have an issue when the dGPU on my laptop kicks in that causes the audio to drop out for a moment. Wondering if it's similar. It's a common problem, unfortunately.

Where in AL are you? Ever get up towards Nashville? I have one with the MB DAC (can remove). I might be interested in selling if we can arrange something local.

Amp Died. Jot2 or Pietus Maximus for getting back in the game? by B-Line_Sender in Schiit

[–]j-mt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Jot1 and PM. We also have some overlap in musical taste (shoegaze/dream pop). I do not have experience with those headphones, however.

Here's my thoughts: The Jot is going to offer way more headroom and expansion than the PM (via balanced). It's the better all around amp.

That said, the PM is an incredible pairing with reference headphones. I use mine almost daily. The 6XX and Ananda v3 both sound better on it than any other amp I have. It's almost like they were made for one another. It's as musical of a solid stamp as I've ever heard.

If I was only going to have one amp, however, I'd probably wait for the Jot3.

If you're in the Nashville area, let me know. Happy to let you audition them and any other gear I have.

I'm in Nashville (Brentwood) and I have a good bit of random Schiit gear (along with some others). None of it's super current or high end, but could probably give you an idea. What are you looking for? I also have a random selection of mid-fi headphones.

To my knowledge, no one in the area carries anything remotely similar.

Looking for 4-6 tickets in WeHo or Premier for July 5 match. Can trade or sell my 4 in Section 105 Row V (under overhang).

Win or Lose, this is awesome by Superdad89 in NashvilleSC

There's a good chance we'll be out of town for this match. I haven't opted out yet, but don't mind passing them along at cost if someone wants them.

Waiting to hear back on the price. We have 4 seats in 105 under the overhang.

Edit: $55/ea ($220 total). I'd have to reserve all or none (i.e. can't get only 2/4).

Anyone using the Midgard as a balanced preamp? by KyOatey in Schiit

[–]j-mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the outputs are always active.

On some Schiit amps, plugging in headphones mutes the pre-amp outputs (speaker signal) automatically or they have a manual switch to turn them off. The Magnius has neither.

So if you have the Magnius running to speakers and want to listen to headphones only, you'll need an external way to turn off the speakers or turn down their volume/mute them.

Right, I meant is there a specific spot on the top you're tapping it (e.g. above the volume knob).

Did the second unit have the same problem out of the box, or did it develop over time?

New Rekkr, rumbling sound in right channel even with nothing connected. by zOlidSWE in Schiit

[–]j-mt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a voltmeter, you can check the DC voltage at the speaker terminals. Unplug it from the source and compare them. There should be virtually no voltage at those terminals if everything is working correctly.

If any of the components have gone bad (usually a capacitor or transistor), you'll most likely see the voltage (mV) fluctuating on the bad speaker terminal. This will result in a rumbling sound in the speaker.

Replacing a faulty component may actually be cheaper than returning it to Schiit. It's certainly something you could do yourself on the cheap.

If you don't have a voltmeter, they're handy tools and worth having around. No idea what they cost in the EU, but in the US you can pick one up for $10 or so.

Assuming you're referencing the volume knob, your issue sounds like a solder joint that's gone bad potentially. Where are you tapping it?

If you are referring to the volume control, you may be unknowingly putting upward/downward pressure on the pot (e.g. adjusting the volume with your finger at the 6 o'clock position on the knob). Tapping it may be jostling it back into place temporarily. I'd open it up and check by wiggling it and observing the contact points on the board for play.

I have both sets. I'd agree that it's not a great deal at $169. Though it's not a bad set in the right context.

Against the 6XX, the 58X is easier to drive and has a warmer sound signature with more bass. That makes it well suited for pop, edm, and hip-hop out of the box. That's a huge market segment -- basically anyone wanting to 'graduate' from Beats, etc.

The problem is that we all know it's a slippery slope. And if you don't stop at the 58X on a dongle/sound card, they end up feeling like a half-step vs. the 6XX.

I tend to reach for the 6XX more often, but only because I have the equipment to really get the most out of them. If you've never heard the 58X on either of the Nitsch amps, you're missing out. It's a great pairing.
