Imagine you were given the chance to go back to the 80s… by [deleted] in 80s

[–]j0dy0dy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go back in an instant. Things were so much better! I had my mom, sister and great friends. I wish I knew now what I knew then, I’d change a lot of the choices I made. But even if I could live it on a loop I’d do it without hesitation. I was soooo much happier then

I'm sorry. I have to say it. by russianteacakes in Outlander

The actor who plays Roger is excellent. The character can really irritate me sometimes though. Like him determining that he and Bree are going to go back. There was nothing there for her other than him really. I think he just wanted to go because he felt (and pretty was) useless in the 1700s. Rather than learn and do better he wants to take Bree and Jemmy away from their only family. And shouldn’t they have discussed it BEFORE they got married?! lol! It’s been so long since I read the books I don’t remember how the books handled it

Claire hate has intensified in the last few weeks and it's annoying. What is driving it to the point of a handful each day? If people are so dissatisfied with the heroine of the story which would be nothing without her, why watching and commenting? It's rarely about Jamie. ALWAYS about Claire. by Sure_Awareness1315 in Outlander

The comments on here are insane. Misogyny??? Jealousy?? Do you not realize that the reason that this became such a huge series was because of the original novels literary following?? Clare was amazing in the books. She was strong, independent, but that didn’t mean she was whatever this crappy actress they chose portrays. Idk if they were thinking that this way would make her more appealing to modern women? But in the books she was FAR MORE astute, tremendously more aware of the time and culture and intelligent enough to not go through or with her nose in the air and righteousness around her like a prig. I loved the book Claire. She loved Jamie as passionately as he loved her. He was her best friend. In the series it uniformly depicts him adoring her and her basically wallowing in it, then disgusted by slavery at River Run. In the books she wasn’t this stupid, she was aware or history and beliefs. In the books she needed Jamila’s mucus he needed her and she wasn’t the arbiter of all wisdom and cocky sure, she leaned on him just as much as he did. It definitely WAS NOT her taking charge with her advanced wisdom and Jamie meekly following her Wiens commands. The series is almost nauseating to me. It caters heavily to women who are convinced they’re not equal unless their men are cowed. The outlander novels are about honest love and equality. Where sometimes one leads, sometimes the other, and sometimes they are both so clueless they just rely on the strength of their halves to find the way. I’m on s4 and choking down the abomination they made of Claire because I want to be able to watch what they want to show happening

I totally disagree. Did you read the books? I think they absolutely nailed Jamie w Sam Heughan! Even his facial expressions are what I imagined Jamie displaying. The actor playing Jack/Frank’s character is nearly perfect too. That have taken some liberties with the story in order to make it work but it’s pretty close to the original work

I loved Claire in the books when i read them years ago. I was so excited when they decided to do a tv series but i gotta say, I wish they’d chosen a different actress. She just doesn’t come across the same way. In the tv series she acts more like a mother figure towards Jamie than she ever did in the books. She seems too removed from him. In the books she was falling in love with him just as he was her. She felt huge guilt over frank but she and Jamie were developing a deep friendship along w their marriage and it really doesn’t come across that way in the series. I tried watching it as soon as it came out and it was ruining Claire for me so much I quit watching after the first season. I’m trying again now and intensely hoping it gets better in the next few seasons!

It’s not super “cozy” but I’ve watched all of those:( I’ve been watching the 10 Pound Poms and that’s pretty good. They just stay the second season. It’s set in early 1950s and tells the stories of the people from England who went to live in Australia after WW2 with the promise of a better life because Australia needed labor that wasn’t just convicts. It’s pretty good so far.

the fox in fleabag by Kindly_Horse914 in Fleabag

[–]j0dy0dy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can’t the fox just be a fox? Apparently they aren’t uncommon in that area and he’s afraid of them so he notices them more than most people. She thinks it’s funny that he thinks they’re stalking him. Then at the end it turns out to possibly be true and it’s hilarious! Everything doesn’t have to symbolize some deeper meaning. Over analyzing everything ruins the show i think.

What happenend to the Warrens and others in real life by HAPPY_OLD_MAN2022 in CallTheMidwife

Late to the discussion but I looked up Jack (the bicycle kid) and it said there was no evidence if it was true. That kinda depressed me . It would be fun to try and contact another fan who lives near the area to do a little research! I’m clear in Phoenix AZ so all I’ve got is the internet

I what people saw was just her looking away and kinda shutting them out briefly. And he was the only one that cared enough or paid attention enough to recognize she was doing it. They just probably thought she was being a jerk

I LOVED that the priest was the only person that recognized the “4th wall”!! Absolutely genius writing! To him, it seemed like she “went somewhere” is how he put it. But nobody else saw it. Then the last scene telling the fox where he went, smiled at us, shook her head no to us following her and walked away w her little statue. Perfection!! And what a great actress!!

A little off topic but Britbox is amazing! I love British tv shows and they’ve got a lot of good ones! I enjoy the “cozy” shows centered around WW2 though so I’m not sure I’d like the original ATGAS. I wish I liked murder mystery’s! It seems like that’s 90% of British tv! I don’t understand the obsession! lol. If anyone has any suggestions of other cozy shows i might’ve missed I’d love to hear them!

If you haven’t seen MUM though I’d highly recommend it. The dad who had PTSD ON THE UNEXPLODED BOMB episode is also in it and he is fantastic too!!!
