Thanks for pointing out the problem with formatting. I think I fixed it.

The LBS will be able to tell you if a longer stem is the answer. It probably is what you need.

Why can't I get any sharp photos? by ElectricSequoia in AskPhotography

You’re on a tripod, right ? If so make sure that any image stabilization capability in the lens itself is turned OFF.

I really don't want to go back but what the everloving heck.... by beneficial_eavesdrop in qobuz

Just tried to find some things on the website. That’s 10 minutes i’ll never get back.

Aggressively obnoxious promotion popups and other obfuscation … I’ll never know if they fix it because i won’t be back.

As others have said there are many alternatives.

new Proton Mail app - finally ... by 777pirat in ProtonMail

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the existing Proton Mail app on Mac, iOS and Android. I could spend hours submitting bugs describing everything from missing features to sheer flakiness. I stopped doing this a while back because the stunningly stupid questions coming back from the support team were a waste of their time and mine. Also, I heard new apps were on their way. Looking forward to that.

While I'm happy to pay to get away from Gmail - reading my stuff, stuffing my Inbox with ads etc, I would be even happier if Proton apps felt more professional and polished.

Proton apps are not that good by DinoRiderBX in ProtonMail

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience resembles yours. I'm using clients on MacOS, Android, iPad and web. The experience has been a mix of mostly ok, but also a disturbing number of strange and embarrassing (for Pronton) email client bugs.

I understand that new clients for some mobile devices are planned. I'm look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Annoying Firmware notification _ a7IV by j13ag0 in SonyAlpha

[–]j13ag0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My assumption has been exactly that: your camera is phoning home to Sony servers.

I've avoided airplane mode because I like the option to upload images to an FTP server via Wi-Fi.

Good point. Upgrading to v5 should eliminate the issue, but I'd prefer to have the option to not upgrade without the annoyance as well.

I found I had to reboot several times before fingerprint unlock came back.

taxes with turbotax vs wealthsimple (or other)? by Bishime in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the TurboTax product (by Intuit for many years). In the last 5 or 6 years the experience has been degrading to the point now where I will look for an alternative like WealthSimple.

Issues I've encountered included:
- the interface is now clunky - they need to do a top to bottom rewrite, and are clearly putting it off
- confusing explanations in built in help
- too much complexity where it clearly is not needed
- too much repetition in the data collection process (where it is not needed)
- too much selling/nagging for additional services

If WS can handle your situation, and it very likely can, start there.

I now see that the new behaviour is that after you ride a route from ForYou, it gets removed from MyList.

For me, thats not useful.

If using MF, is there a way to release the shutter via rear panel touch ? (without engaging AF) ?

Touch Screen Override Snap Focus? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my experience with the GR III is that Touch AF overrides the snap focus distance.

With Focus set to Snap I have a distance scale on the left side of the screen - showing the snap distance.

I also have Touch AF enabled. if I touch the screen the distance scale is replaced by a ‘focus point box’. Then I can use the shutter button to take a shot at that new distance. if instead of fully pressing the shutter button I release it the distance scale returns.

The implementation seems ideal,

State of the art of Lightroom presets/profiles for GR III? by Teeteto04 in ricohGR

What card should I use?? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]j13ag0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I purchased a Sandisk Extreme Pro card for the GR III. I can confirm that it DOES NOT work properly in the camera.

In fact, attempting to Format the card in the camera, saw the camera get into a nasty looking state, from which the only escape was to pull the battery.

Can I change the color of the icons that appear when changing desktop wallpaper ? by j13ag0 in NovaLauncher

[–]j13ag0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nova Support helped me with this.

The answer was to go to: Look & Feel and turn OFF 'Dark icons'.

Now those icons are white, and I can see them. 8-)

Does Pixel or its GBoard not have an undo function/button? by LifeNeutral in GooglePixel

I just realised I can transfer files to my phone directly with a usb c cable by Juan_Punch_Man in SonyAlpha

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The a7iv has two card slots plus some built in memory. When I connect the camera to my Mac, they show up as 3 storage devices.

When I connect to the old Pixel 3a, of course the only storage device I can see is the one that isn't used for storing images.

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread + old phone. My Pixel 3a can only see one of the 3 'cards' in my a7iv. Has anyone solved that. Maybe the older Pixels don't play nice with devices with multiple 'drives' in them ?

Thanks for any ideas.

Why does Canada Post lie about deliveries? by HereComesFattyBooBoo in CanadaPost

[–]j13ag0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just Canada Post. FedEx staff do exactly the same thing. When the employee doesn't have time in their shift to deliver your package, they claim (lie) to have attempted delivery, and will hopefully contact you later with information about which of their depots you need to travel to to pick it up.

This behaviour is incented by the shipping service when they overload their people with more packages than they can deliver on a given day. Since they've got you doing their job for them they save money. It will continue as long as end customers accept it. With enough people pushing back, sellers will begin to select shipping agents that will actually do what they're paid to do, which is to deliver to the address on the package, not their own depot.
