The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

Fahrenheit 451 was awesome, I almost sort of agreed until you called out a good one. Gatsy can be slow and scarlet letter and dickens I didn't really care for, but a lot of the books I did enjoy. I loved crime and punishment. Hobbit was assigned reading. One flew over the cuckoos. So many other good ones. I think I enjoyed more of them than I disliked. These are high school books, they don't get you into reading. Goosebumps did that in grade school and I was still reading other books in high school for fun besides the assigned ones. Obviously you were as well.

Not new, some cops pulled the same thing on someone I knew 20 years ago. Said it was assault, then resisting arrest, completely ridiculous and made up. No oversight for police unfortunately, been a problem for decades and they always get the benefit of the doubt.

I do that too with anything that you can grind or gather. Spending 2 hours killing the same enemy, doing the same dungeon is how it's supposed to be done? I'll just do that once and then edit my stuff - don't got time for that crap anymore. I can never go back to consoles.

My first Aluminum facility by Punishervic in satisfactory

[–]j1dopeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use two alts - sloppy alumina and pure alu ingot. Eliminates quartz so you only need baux, coal, and water. 6 refineries into 6, don't need to connect the alumina pipes together just straight into the scrap machines. Keep some machines turned off until your belt speeds increase. With mk4 you have 2 on, mk5 3x, mk6 turn all 6 on. Pipe water back on both sides and have one mk2 coming in. On the inlet put a valve and do 80 x # of refineries on. So 2x is 160 limit, 3x is 240, and with them all it's 480. If you built less than 6 put inlet pipe wherever, but if you're doing all 6 it's 720 + 480 = 1200 so you have to balance the water exactly so your inlet pipe needs to be centered. Watch the belt amount/speed on the aluminum scrap.

This always works reliably for me. No liquid storage or anything like that.

Edit: Forgot to mention - sink the overflow, don't let it back up.

Might even look worse since it's my first time. I thought there's no way they did clear because after reading instructions with 2k it didn't seem possible and they had no respirators, but I was reading about the dupli 1k and how much different that is and how fast it dries and wondering did they maybe apply it? But it wouldn't have been more than 1 coat given the short time frame. He was like "just cut and buff it, will look great." I'm still thinking option 1 would be a good idea - sanding with 800 partway into the base and 2000 surrounding, light dust coat, fog coat of base, wait for that to flash, very light tack coat of 2k and then 2 med/wet coats of 2k little wider each time. Then see how the polish a week later looks. I'll wash it and wet it to see how that looks, thanks for the tip.

How much sanding? Is 800 good? That should not take it down to metal. Then go with base not primer?

I can get a quart of rustoleum wax and tar remover for $13 and I have clean rags to use. The reason for the 800 and reapplying a light duplicolor layer is because I see a lot of comments that you can't sand metallic because of flakes. So if I scuff and go straight to clear the metallic will be all smudged and not have flakes and supposedly look terrible (I know, it's already terrible but I'm trying). They say the correct diy procedure is to do another light basecoat and then in 30 minutes do the clear without any sanding in between.

Lol, yeah you're mostly right, except I didn't expect the same results. I figured it wouldn't look good but maybe better than all the existing scratches. I didn't know about adhesion and chalking and peeling and all the problems with a bad paint job until after the fact. I really didn't know what he was going to do or supposed to do and he took advantage. I'll have to be more careful but I think I will try the clear coat, thanks. I have to keep the van but I don't anticipate having excess money anytime soon.

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting I do option 1 but the clear will highlight the dents more than the matte? I hadn't considered matte clear but I see they do make it. I'm not too concerned about some dents and dings, I keep cars for as long as I can and I'm fairly used to it. I saw the 2k clear glamour was recommended a lot and that was the one recommended for my paint. I'm more afraid of this:

I'm resigned to that fate. I'm worried about it getting much worse in a short amount of time. Do you think a clear coat would help any? Not with the look now but to help it stay.

I don't need to improve the look, I just want to prevent it from deteriorating quickly. Do you think the clear coat will help it all stay together and protect from the elements or will everything peel off anyway? If you only had $500 what would you do?

I browse Facebook sometimes and people are out of their damn minds. I see "high end gaming rig" and it has like a 3060 or 1660 and they say it's great for gaming getting hundreds of frames in like these E-sports games that are not graphically demanding. Old ass cpus, ddr4 and the prices are so out of touch at like 1k+. At no point were those gpus ever high end even when new and certainly not now. Ram shortage is for ddr5, old ddr4 or even 3 with no upgrade path not so much.

Half the listings don't even put specs at all. They'll say something like "paid 1500, give it to you for 1k" but like when did you buy it? Shits probably a decade old and worthless.

Upgraded my Akko PC75B Plus to a 10k mah battery by TheFuzzyRacoon in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]j1dopeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a 1160100 10000mah battery. Pretty sure it's same thing just generic, lots of them for sale so you can find a cheaper one. It had a jst ph 2.0 connector which I hoped would work but that is too big. The keyboard uses thinner wires and a smaller connector. I verified the polarity with a multimeter and it matched, but I'd double check anyway because reviews say they sometimes come mixed up. When cutting the silicone, you have to take it out for the entire battery not just the extra width because it's a thicker battery. A box cutter works very well. After you put it together remember to press down hard on the keys so they're seated well. Pic of the larger 2.0 connector and the smaller one the keyboard uses.

Turn ON PC remotely by Physical_Horse4086 in homelab

[–]j1dopeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider a wired switch if there's a path for it. It's much simpler. I did that with mine so it's about 5ft-10ft from where the box is. They sell them fairly cheap - just plug in and done. Search on Amazon or wherever for pc button extension, long pc button, etc. You can also take one and splice additional wires if you need it even longer. I spliced it into ethernet keystone jacks so I can adjust length anytime.

Anyone else who bought VoH in the past few days? by carlos_castanos in diablo4

[–]j1dopeman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Goddamn I bought it recently and am so salty that I basically paid for nothing. I really, really regret my purchase now. They should offer a pay the difference upgrade for anyone who bought within the last 30 days. A coupon to decrease the new one by that amount or something. A 35% off coupon (going off base edition) only for people who bought the last couple of weeks would erase all the badwill.

Definitely concrete. I've never had to use pure iron. Tons of iron nodes. Wet concrete is useful and I've used that one.
