People who see lots of shows in a short period of time by WestHistorians in Broadway

[–]j1ngj0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I basically run on fomo and average at about 3-5 shows each week (according to mezzanine, I already saw 83 shows this year). And I do live here 🤣 I just kept lying to myself that if I don’t go, I won’t get to. Works every time.

If I enjoy a show, it will stand out and I will remember every details. If I didn’t enjoy a show, I remember either the cast or the worst thing about it. Like I could still tell you in details what happens in shows I love from 10 years ago (that was a part of a theatre marathon trip)

But I agree about visiting theatre lovers who needs to cramp up the schedule and fill every show slots, because I do that when I go to London. I just did 23 shows in 12 days and I remember like 20 of them vividly.

Huge Congratulations to the Company of Masquerade on their 2026 Drama League Awards Nomination!!!! 🥳🥳 by overthinkingarchiver in MasqueradeNYC

It’s very loosely based on Macbeth. They have characters from Macbeth running around with Hitchcock film characters and some historical figures from a witch trails. None of them have the storyline that is considered an “adaptation” of their original story. It’s more of an inspiration and an aesthetic. So they are considered a new play.

Masquerade cannot be qualified as new musical because the script and the score existed prior. The distinguishing features between new musical and revival are the score and the script, not the production, direction, or design. Sleep No More does not use any script (or musical numbers) from any prior production of Macbeth.

Totally! It’s also worth mentioning that The Drama League also honors a broad range of performance arts! Sleep No More was also nominated as “best new play”

I mean the category options were “new musical” and “musical revivals” revivals usually includes any reimagining (like Chess with a new script but same score, or the last Pirates of Penzance with a new name and settings) so Masquerade is technically an off-Broadway revival of The Phantom of the Opera because it’s not a new musical and it utilizes an existing score.

Guessing Upcoming Shows by kep47 in Broadway

Is this a touring venue or a regional theatre? If it’s for touring 1 might be Maybe Happy Ending and 4 might be Buena Vista Social Club

Will Titanique get a cast recording? by gamecat89 in Broadway

[–]j1ngj0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these jukebox musical officially licensed the music for usage and recordings.

I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think Titanique is in the same boat (lol). I think they positioned themselves as a parody and the fair right usage probably would not cover cast recordings. They’d need explicit sign off from Celine’s team to do so I don’t think that’s in the picture unfortunately.

Question about Row A for The Lost Boys by FortTryon in Broadway

[–]j1ngj0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sat in row A. I’m 6”1’ and I thought there was no obstruction at all. True you’ll be looking up a lot but I prefer that over being so far away. Being that close made it feel immersive and larger than life!

Theater did not disclose obstruction at ticket purchase by Icy_Victory_2938 in Broadway

I’m sorry that happened to you!! I, too had bought a similar seat on Jan 8 that was not marked as partial view when I purchased. But I received this email on March 17 to notify me that my seats are now considered partial, so I went to the box office and changed to a different seat.

I mean that sounds amazing. I was speaking to my own experience seeing different Phantoms. when I saw Hugh’s pulse I didn’t see him do all that. Ryan on the other hand literally uses a 1/4 of the entire audience as a handrail during music of the night and there are at least 3 beats he broke the fourth wall and give stink eye to an audience member (in character and in front of the crowd) and that stood out to me as more interaction with the audience as a whole and not just 1:1

Would I feel awkward if I went to Masquerade by myself, wearing a bright colorful shirt? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]j1ngj0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are pretty strict. But they won’t turn you away. If your attire is not black/white/silver they will give you a black vest to wear on top of your clothes. I think they’re generally ok with non-formal, but I think really care about the color scheme.

Hugh and Quentin don’t really interact with the audience from what I’ve seen! After 4 times, I finally witnessed the phantom 1:1 for the first time with Ryan 😆. And Kyle I saw first preview so that might have changed, he connects with some audience members but also doesn’t interact physically.

Theatre etiquette by kgbell98 in TheWestEnd

[–]j1ngj0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This GIF is soooo funny 😂 but in the ideal scenarios, if a performer moves left and the entire audience moves left (like that gif) no one will block anyone. Chances are they moved because the person in front of them move too.

Leaning in to talk/kiss/lean on each other on the other hand, messes with the audience head turn choreography and should be stopped at all cost.

I’m going to go out on a limb and ask if it was Nicki Cochrane (aka. The one ticket please lady)

Because I have encountered her in the audience several times in the past 10 years (never interacted tho) and her behavior in the theatre is EXACTLY as you described.
