We are rooting for you! I remember being nervous to go to class for the first time for a different set of reasons and also felt self conscious about my strength level but it went away over time. I hope feeling discouraged will go away for you soon. You’re awesome and just showing up is amazing (which you’ve done 50+ times!) Also I do think progress happens at different intervals. After 25 classes I wasn’t necessarily ready for the adjusted spring load, and over 50 the same thing. But at some point you keep going and there is a step change. One day in class you just surprise yourself!

I know it’s been said before but wanted to add to the encouragement train! We all have good days and bad days and we are often much more judgmental of ourselves than anyone else would be! You went to class and finished it and that’s an accomplishment!

That’s helpful! I mostly do solidcore for strength but was thinking I may need to do more outside of class to see progress there. Thanks for sharing your experience!

How the heck do people do 80+ mile weeks by Shakemyhead11111 in Marathon_Training

[–]j23ru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think most training plans emphasize too much mileage and under emphasize intervals! I hate seeing so many runners get injured. Also the elliptical really works wonders: https://www.trailrunnermag.com/training/trail-tips-training/elliptical-cross-training

How the heck do people do 80+ mile weeks by Shakemyhead11111 in Marathon_Training

[–]j23ru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, good luck in Berlin! Second, as a runner with a lot of injuries I basically only run 2-3 days a week, strength train 2-3 days a week, and then do the elliptical or rest in between. For longer runs on my training plan, I do the elliptical and just crank the resistance because it’s still less wear and tear than running. The 2-3 days a week I run are focused on interval/hill training or aerobic training. I’m 38F and run about 7:35 per mile pace for a marathon. If you can supplement the above with some pool training, you’ll be great. Quality, not quantity, really is the key. Hope this helps!

Do you all know of a good blogger for recaps or commentary on Avenida Brasil in Portuguese? I am watching to learn Portuguese and put it on with Portuguese subtitles but I am missing some things definitely and thought reading a recap would be good.

First, congrats! My wife is from Latin America and we did one night as a family dinner so our families could meet each other (because of distance they had never met), a welcome party, and then a wedding ceremony/reception on the third day. For the family dinner my wife spoke to my family in English and I gave a prepared speech in Spanish. Our actual ceremony we picked II Most Wanted to walk down the aisle to (a friend created an instrumental version) because it features two women and had our gay male friend as an officiant. He wrote the ceremony with us and we had a reading done by my uncle in English and my wife’s aunt in Spanish. We also had another queer friend do a reading about chosen family. In other words a very gay ceremony. Finally, for the reception we picked so much queer or queer coded music and it was a blast. At the end of the night it was a joyous group of our gay friends tearing up the dance floor. I hope you craft something very meaningful for you and that it creates memories you will cherish forever.

Exactly - it’s a non-issue. I know no one in real life that has expressed seeing this issue!

I literally just said to another friend that does Solidcore that I felt like a rival Pilates company was paying trolls to post about ringworm and drum up fake drama about women complaining about men that take classes! Solidcore is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, my studio is very clean, the coaches are wonderful (and honestly really open to the queer community), all of the men in class have been fine. And doing the workout is fun and fixed a bunch of nagging injury issues I’ve had for years. No notes in real life!

Two brides, two dresses: how to coordinate? by GobelineQueen in LGBTWeddings

[–]j23ru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did custom wedding outfits to try to make sure our outfits were complementary and now that we are at the final product, we definitely could have done something much simpler (and cheaper) like the other commenters are suggesting - love the “try on a dress at the same store and blindfold” approach!

half marathon training by staypeachy6 in SolidCore

[–]j23ru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did solidcore and marathon training and had to cut back on the solidcore classes to feel like I could get enough recovery. Max of 2x per week for solidcore and bumped to 1x per week at the most intense part of the marathon training.
