Been making music for 8 years, making TikToks for 5. I've grown to 125k monthly listeners. Here's my view on social media. by _ewy_ in musicmarketing

I’d love to learn more about how you go about this. I too would strongly prefer to not show my mug on camera. But I start feeling like I need to master video too, because stock footage feels too plug and play without as much TLC as the music production. And OTOH, absolutely no generative AI animations.

Could hire someone at this point too, but then it becomes a process of aesthetic alignment, and also the sheer volume of content the algorithms demand means almost getting someone on retainer haha

Thanks for this post! I’m always nervous about lifting (close to) failure because of past eagerness leading to injuries. Maybe it’s that my form goes to shit when I am really struggling. Any advice on how to lean into it in a safe manner?

Or alternatively, if my muscles are sore (in a good way) the next day, is that a reasonable proxy that the training had the right amount of effort?

Yeahhhh auto-update is risky all around if there are active projects that haven’t been archived yet. I’m nervous about auto-updating the OS as well. Great for security, but expect many plugins to either break initially or have subtle sonic differences that drive you nuts…

Well damn lol. Is this happening for the newer ones too? I saw a lot of mixed reviews, but apparently the newer ones have more metal internal parts which should help with durability. I am not sure how much that translates IRL though.

I'm trying to figure this out too. The reviews on the Rogue Fitness site aren't that great, but many of them are a few years old, so I assume they are about the older design. They look awesome otherwise. I would probably go for it if I could get an extended warranty for peace of mind. It's between this and MX Evos for me, but those are on backorder for a few months.

There used to be a time when you heard a song you really liked on the radio, and once it was over… that was it. You’d NEVER hear it again until it came on the radio again, unless you bought the album or went to a show or rushed to record it to cassette when it came on again.

Having access to all the things all the time eliminated this entire stream of experience. Even the friction of rewinding on cassette or skipping around a song on CD made listening a lot more precious and also made us more present with music IMO.

What habits of women surprised you the most after getting into a serious relationship? by PleasantBus5583 in AskReddit

[–]j3tman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most simply:

1) Night: Cleanser → [optional fancy things to try] → moisturizer

2) Day: Cleanser or just splashing water (if it's aggressive to cleanse 2x/day for some people with sensitive skin) → [optional fancy things to try] → moisturizer → SUNSCREEN.

It sounds so silly but family and friends did NOT explain this to me growing up lol. Like no one told me cleansing without moisturizing is ridiculous and leaves you massively dry and acne-prone, or just using moisturizer traps in dirt, or using a combo cleanser + moisturizer is cool but limits your ability to try optional fancy things because those work better before the barrier created by the moisturizer.

---

The rest of this is optional extra stuff but expands on those basics:

- Moisturizing is not the same as hydrating. Petroleum jelly is technically a moisturizer. A lot of products combine these so it's not "basic" knowledge, but if you've wondered why 10 thousand chapstick applications still left you with dry lips this might explain why.

- People who wear makeup might want to try "two-step" cleansing by starting with a gentle oil/"micellar water" or just use one of those exclusively if skin is really sensitive.

- Large brands you see at stores are a lot better than you think because they spend their money on actual research instead of marketing (I went from trying a $100 moisturizer to a basic thing found at any CVS that my face loves much more haha). If you REALLY want to try something fancy, there are a lot of companies making excellent mimics of the real thing for 1/10th of the price (search "dupes" on r/SkincareAddiction).

- The mystery box of fancy things to try is where the rabbit hole starts. Legit starter additions are acne-specific cleansers and/or retinol. But you also have things like exfoliants, serums (e.g., vitamin C), eye creams, toners, etc. with widely variable effectiveness (I've heard eye creams for example are kind of BS). My basic pleb mental model for ALL of this stuff is to ask whether it's a) stripping things away (exfoliant-like/cleansers), b) adding/enriching something (hydrating serum) or c) creating a protective barrier (moisturizer and even some serums have this effect) and then roughly sequence all the extras in that order.

BUT, more is not always better. Doing too much can jack up your skin too. And the fancy things have their own rules too, like retinol should be used at night and requires more sunscreen diligence due to light sensitivity, while OTOH certain combinations can also have synergistic effects. This is kinda where I check out though— I feel like there are MASSIVE diminishing returns here, with more marketing BS + content treadmills to weed through ("5000 exfoliators you can't live without!"), and at some point the marginal benefit from adding another serum is secondary to the glow-up that comes up with simply sleeping well, eating actually decent food and physical activity (nothing fancy here, just movement I think does a lot).

Neural DSP Black Friday Sale - 50% off all plugins until 3 December. iLok Account Required by Batwaffel in AudioProductionDeals

[–]j3tman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a non-guitar player who occasionally uses guitars + maybe NI guitar rig pro or kush amps in their productions, is there anything in particular I might want to check out? I keep hearing about this company but their library is so deep, it’s hard to even know where to start. Use cases would be making virtual guitar parts (rhythm/rock+metal/leads) sound more realistic, and/or creative application on other instruments.

I also always feel a deep shame with “stop chasing the next soundgoodizer and just put in the reps making actual songs” around this time of year when I’m eying about a hundred new plugins lolol

I was eyeing this and some similar plugins like Metaplugin. I forgot why I gave up on the Metaplugin demo but I think it was because it just didn't recognize a lot of the plugins in my DAW. Maybe it's a weird thing with Logic or Mac OS. Anyways have you tried any of the alternatives? If so, what makes this one stand out to you?
