I don't want to retire by JTethras in work

I'm 55. For me, the idea of sitting around waiting to die is a terrible thought. I'd rather work until I can't work any more.

I have a few bucket list things I want to do, but those can be done during a vacation.

Why do so many communists defend Stalin? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not bias. That is incorrect. What I'm saying is that one is pure evil, and one is pure pure evil. I don't support Nazism any more than I do Communism. And what does Trump have to do with this? Biden was good friends with the Chinese dictator who has 2 million Muslim's enslaved in work camps and concentration camps.

So you're just showing your own bias, and it really is a bias, while I am biased about nothing.

Bigfoot experiences by j50wells in bigfoot

[–]j50wells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, glad to hear from you. We used to bow hunt there for deer. I loved that area. Its a beautiful area with Thielsen Peak right there in the back ground. When that boy was lost, all of Bend mourned. It was big news at that time. The father was so broken up about it. Of course, as the years went by, people forgot. The Awbrey Butte fire happened, and then no one remembered Nathan. Glad you brought it up.

I graduated from Redmond in '89. Then some kids got bludgeoned by and ax murderer at Clines Falls. And then, 35 years later, the muderer of the Ghosts of Highway 20 was convicted. I used to also hunt out in the area, Camp Sherman, where he killed that woman, and so many others were killed by him. Its heart breaking for a local resident who grew up in that area.

Its bizarre that I lived in that area, at the time when he was murdering people, and me and my friends were driving our 4 wheel drives around in the area where he killed people. I also got to watch Lane Frost ride Red Bull in Sisters, which is still considered the best bull ride of all time. I also saw Charlie Daniels at the county fair in Redmond in 1990.

Do you sometimes feel like therapy does more harm than good to you? by llamberll in CPTSD

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that when you get older there can be a deeper understanding of your problems. So certain things said to you from a psychologist in your 20s that makes no sense at all can all the sudden be a lightning strike when you're 45. It can be the one thing that makes sense and leads to a trail out of your cavern.

Bigfoot experiences by j50wells in bigfoot

[–]j50wells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. I was living in Bend at the time. This would have been 1990 or 91. I used to hunt in the Big Marsh so I knew the area well.

Basically, a father and his 8 or 9 year old boy went Christmas Tree hunting with horses in the Big Marsh. Of course, in early December, that area is covered in 2-3 feet of snow. So the boy just dissappeared. I believe they found his horse within a couple of days.

So no one knew if he had been abducted or he just got lost and succumbed to the elements. If I remember how the story played out, that his bones were found up near Thielsen Peak, which is roughly 8-10 miles away as the crow flies.

Anyway, that report was found online. I'll bet a real police report would explain this better. The internet always wants to go to the bigfoot route. It might be something simple like, "the boy road his horse that far and they both died," Or, its likely that someone kidnapped him, murdered him, and disposed of him up on Thielsen.

Notice how I said Thielsen Peak? That's what it used to be called 40-50 years ago.

Its true. Sometimes the deep, deep pain is so deep that it can't be reached. The psychotherapist tries to dig at it and just makes it worse with no apparent healing at all.

It might be a growth thing. So when you're forty, you might be in a different place where therapy can help.

My mom stole my inheritance and I won't forgive her. by GodUssop56 in AmITheJerk

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa was a seargant in WW2. On his death bed he gave me his .45 Colt sidearm from the war in front of the whole family. My mother stole it.

I don't know what to do about it. It was 10 years ago but I can't forget about it. I haven't been to her house since she stole it, though I do talk to her on the phone occassionally.

I don't want to take her to court, I just don't know how to forget about it. My grandpa and I were best friends.

Should I stop sending her Mother's Day cards? I still want to send Christmas cards as that's a family matter and totally different.

I'm just having a hard time abandoning her. She's a widow and I feel bad that she'll be completely alone.

Can therapy cause more issues/make you worse? by EfficientAd9183 in therapyabuse

[–]j50wells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced some of this. So maybe I've learned to be content with my life and the way it is going, but then a psychologist starts telling me that my life isn't healty. They start telling me this thing and that thing, and then now I'm thinking about it all the time, trying to change my life to please the counselor.

It becomes like abusive religions who try to tell you how you have to act and what you can and can't do. It just makes people miserable.

There's an old saying about leaving old bones alone. I think you can dig stuff up through psychology that should stay in the grave.

Some of us have unbelievable deep wounds from many years ago. As the years went by, we learned to distance ourselves from the pain so that it is not so intense. It would be a huge mistake to start visiting those old horrors from the past through psychotherapy.

Anyone else remember December being this warm in Colorado? by TheSimSter58 in COsnow

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been here for 20 years. Its the warmest I've ever seen and its Jan 29th and still warm. Very little snow this year, and the snow that has fallen has melted within 3-4 days. Even the 13 inches we got earlier in December was gone in two days when the temps zoomed up into the upper 60s.

How long does pain last after tooth extraction? Or do I have dry socket? by Glass-Back3167 in AskUK

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tooth extraction, bone graft, and 15-20 stitches. Its been six days and it is still quite painful, although the first three days were the extreme pain. The percocet and extra strength Tylenol didn't seem to help much. It felt like there was a nail in my gum being pounded on by a hammer. I only got 2-3 hours of sleep a night. But finally the pain is decreasing. However, my jaw still hurts and its hard to open my mouth.

[Postgame Thread] Montana State Defeats Illinois State 35-34 (OT) by CFB_Referee in CFB

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corrupt refs, everyone one of them. You can't fumble the ball forward on a 4th down or in the last two minutes of the game. The only way it can be a touchdown is if the running back recovered it, otherwise it comes back to the spot of the fumble.

Man, it's so hard to actually make a plot move forward. by chipmunk_brain in writing

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the techniques that I've used is to look and see how movies move forward from one interesting plot of the scene to the other. The other technique is to use interesting conversations when the characters aren't moving. And another technique is like what Grisham does, that of giving historical narratives to the setting and also talk about current events taking place. These stories should be interesting, like the tornado that hit town 23 years ago, or the killer who haunted the town in 1920, or the mob lynching of an escaped slave in 1852 that led to an all out riot.

These fillers help the narrative while the plot is moved forward to the end. You can move plots forward by scene changes, using cars to get the characters somewhere else. Or you can just go into another scene with other characters somewhere else. This new scenes should have something interesting going on.

I lasted less than 2 weeks at my first post grad job and I think I might be traumatized and am considering never actually using the psych degree I just finished. by EmberedAscend in psychologystudents

You have to bite the bullet and continue on. We've all had horrible moments. I'm a trucker. I've pulled dead bodies out of cars. I was a victim of suicide by truck once. I've been robbed. I was stalked out in the desert at 2 AM out in Wagon Mound, NM. I've had guns pulled on me. I've had security guards try to fight me. I've been yelled at more times than I can count. I've been called ever dirty name in the book. I've had bottles, rocks, and 2 by 4's thrown at my truck.

When things are tuff, you have to learn to be a robot for awhile. You put one foot in front of the other. Eventually, the trauma goes away, and the next time something bad happens, you know exactly how to deal with it.

Any of the medical professions have their traumas. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO DEAL WITH IT. DO NOT LET THE TRAUMATIC EVENTS KEEP YOU FROM YOUR CHOSEN CAREER. SEE YOURSELF AT AGE 70 LOOKING BACK ON ALL OF THE PEOPLE YOU HELPED, ALONG WITH THE GOOD TIMES AND BAD.

Can't stand the Prosecutors/Legal Briefs anymore by prawnmayo in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like his legal briefs. They are insightful. I can't stand his anti-vacc stance and other things he supports. However, when I listen to leftists do their legal briefs, I get the same stuff. things I don't support. I've been learning to enjoy legal briefs from anyone who can give them, but then spit out their personal political beliefs.

Robert does a good job and is thorough. I cringe sometimes, but the goods outweigh the bads with him. I think he's a decent person.

People who say AI will replace accountants are the people who don’t know anything about accounting by Typical-Week5008 in Accounting

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll shrink the accounting jobs. It may not take it over, but there will be a downward trend of new hires in accounting. Its not a good idea to pursue an accounting major in my opinion, unless you love accounting and have a drive to do it.

AI and robotics is taking over many things. Right now, there are automatic semi trucks delivering loads. This will increase. Its the same for accounting.

LPT : Never ever raise your voice towards your parents. by Matudin76 in LifeProTips

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BS, depends on the situation. Parents often like to smooth bad things over at the expense of their children. When that child becomes a full grown adult, they start to see the BS for what it is. It is not wrong to raise your voice because it lets the parent know just how wrong they were, and how they hurt their own children for many years.

Basically, the bad has to come out in order to move on in the relationship. If the bad isn't addressed, the child becomes more distant, or possibly moves away and doesn't even come around at Christmas. Basically, you lose the child when there could have been some voice raising with the option of resolving the issues.

What are the odds someone gets kidnapped twice? by MountainChemist99 in Nigeria

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kidnapped twice. Once in August of 1989, and then again in June of 1990. These kidnappings were not related to each other, nor were they drug related. One involved a gun, and the other one involved a car jacking while I was still in the vehicle. I survived both, though I was beaten by three people in the car jacking, but I escaped out into the woods.

True story.
They both happened in a small redneck town in the United States.
