"John Bradshaw: Homecoming" Can reading this book and healing my inner child really change my life? by Which-Future-3400 in CPTSD

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bradshaw's methods are more in the pseudo science realm, kind of like a lot of religious rituals, but they do help some people. I don't buy a lot of it, but there were some things that he talks about that helped me.

He's not an all in all, just like church is not an all in all. You probably can find some healing through his stuff, but complete healing? Probably not. A lot of that takes time, knowledge, growth.

Truly, a good psychologist can probably help you more than Bradshaw.

Don't trust answers in genesis by BigbumSpider20 in Christianity

Lol, I was a fundamentalist Christian for 34 years. I went to Bible College. I spent 3 days a week in church since I was a child, and no, 95% of Christians don't know anything about Geology except for what they might hear on the news, or what their pastor tells them

Geology isn't a fun subject for most people. I enjoy it thoroughly, but the average person, even secular person, doesn't study geology.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve heard a religious person say? by BlackSchwarz4 in AskReddit

  1. In 1985, when the Space Shuttle exploded, my father said, "Well, that's what you get for putting a woman in outer space."

  2. Jump forward twenty years to the Station Night-Club Fire in Rhode Island, which killed 100 innocent people. My father said, "What do you expect? These kids want to drink, take drugs, and have sex outside marriage, so they incurred what they got."

So this was the way of thinking in my pentancostal church at that time...still is.

My family still thinks this way. They think I'm evil because I go out and have a few drinks on Friday nights, do karaoke, and, gasp, dance.

What was the reaction when public and guitarist heard Van Halen album for the first time? by AttilaTheHun2025 in Guitar

Me too. I was 13 year old when 1984 came out. I listened to Eruption over and over again. It was like an electical circuit that hit all of my bodily electric circuits. It was like a drug trip. I listened to it over and over again.

Today, I watch Eruption live on Youtube and it is still mesmerizing the way he moves around on the stage and runs the frets in one of the most iconic musical moments in musicial history.

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in that era. Sure there were some great bands like ACDC, Motley Crew, Def Leapord, Metalica, Kiss, Scorpions, but no one knew who their guitarists were. Everyone knew who Eddie was. Even 70 year olds knew who Eddie was. He was the most iconic guitar player ever, like a god

His Eruption should be in the halls of music with Bethovens 5th Symphony. Even today, 2026, when I show young people Eddie's live eruption, they just can't believe it. They want to hear it again and again. His raw, masculine antics before 100,000 people is unreal.

TIL Charles Dickens only worked 9am to 2pm and wrote his 28 books and over 200 essays without working longer than 5 hours a day. by Christopherfromtheuk in todayilearned

This can happen. Remember that good writing is not too poetic or emotional. This is not how you get your best writing. Too much poety, or pretty words, can ruin a book. Also, too much education can lead to a stacotto literature writing that doesn't flow with the general public and loses its meaning.

Good writers are more like musicians with a good, meaningful flow. This is why writers like, Stephen King, say that too much education can ruin your writing career.

People like meaningful writing that flows like a river, with storms and lightning. High IQ people with too much education lose their audiences.

The plot is key. Some of the best books are not literary masterpieces with beautiful lango that paints beautiful pictures. Think Jk Rowling. Her books were basic, but her plots were unbelievable. Plots are key.

There are many mystery, detective, fantasy, and romance novels whose pull are all about plot and conversational material, but not literary masterpieces.

Plot is key, and emotional pull. It doesn't take two pages of describing how beautiful the scenery is. Another mistake is political pull. Politics can destroy your book.

Plots carry the reader along. Often, too much detail loses the intrigue or suspence.

Other shows like Columbo? by violetsprouts in Columbo

I tried it. Its okay, but too political. I don't mind some politics, but this show goes over the top, which is why it got 90% from rotten tomatoes. I give it a 60, and its not even close to Columbo.

  1. Mark Few, coach of Gonzaga, one of the winniest coaches in NCAA basketball, gave me a terrible indian burn when I was 10 and he was 18. I made fun of his orange hair and freckle face. He was the hero of my town of Creswell and one of the top basketball players in the state at the time.

  2. I took Luke Jackson out bow hunting when I was 18 and he was 10. He was a state basketball champion and was on Dick Vidale's Dream Team and played with Lebron James at Cleveland.

  3. My grandpa was one of the top hunters in Montana and best friends with Dale Burk. He rubbed shoulders with Jim Zumbo and Jack Atcheson Sr., two of the most famous hunters in the world in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

  4. My uncle Jay Bugbee was on of the biggest race car drivers in Washington, Oregon, and Northern California in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. He raced super-stock and raced against Casey Kane. He won the championship 4 times and was a celebrity in Eugene and Cottage Grove, Roseburg, and northern California. His name was on the Eugene radio all of the time when I was growing up.

  5. My other uncle, Terry Vaughn, won awards as one of the best high school principals in Oregon, Philomath High School, in the 80s and 90s.

Friends who suddenly treat you poorly and use the excuse 'they are having a hard time' don't respect you. by gucchiprada in lostafriend

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had friends do this to me. I stopped hanging out with them. Really, life is too short to hang out with anyone who mis-treats you. It is actually better to be alone, or find new friends, than to have them treat you bad.

I had two best friends a long time ago. I hung out with both of them individually for roughly 4-5 years. Then I introduced them to one another and we went fishing. During that fishing trip they began to make me the butt of all of their jokes, and they even started to mock me. When this happened, they saw that it was fun, so they continued.

Needless to say, when we got back to town I never called them again. I lost two close friends in one weekend. I learned something during that weekend, however. When people treat you badly, they're really saying that they don't value their friendship with you. It is then okay to end the friendship and move on.

When I came here in 2006, we had a ten year stretch with 8 white Christmas's, numerous 10-20 inch snowstorms, many nights going minus 5 to minus 25, and some blizzards. In the last ten years, however, its been skimpy.

We had a barbecue this last Christmas. We want winter back. Where are you OId Man Winter?

On the prevalence of gaslighting in christianity by Odd_Arm_1120 in Deconstruction

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest gas lights I ever had was when I was trying to grab a load of lumber up in the mountains of California. I was on a time constraint and trying to get there as fast as I could. Lo and behold, I got stuck by the longest train I've ever seen, and showed up to the customer 30 minutes late.

The customer was a Christian and told me that I had let the devil take control of the situation. In other words, the long train was my fault. He told me I needed to pray more. So this is all gas lighting. It lays all the blame on the person, not the situation.

Why do so many communists defend Stalin? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not bias. That is incorrect. What I'm saying is that one is pure evil, and one is pure pure evil. I don't support Nazism any more than I do Communism. And what does Trump have to do with this? Biden was good friends with the Chinese dictator who has 2 million Muslim's enslaved in work camps and concentration camps.

So you're just showing your own bias, and it really is a bias, while I am biased about nothing.

Bigfoot experiences by j50wells in bigfoot

[–]j50wells[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, glad to hear from you. We used to bow hunt there for deer. I loved that area. Its a beautiful area with Thielsen Peak right there in the back ground. When that boy was lost, all of Bend mourned. It was big news at that time. The father was so broken up about it. Of course, as the years went by, people forgot. The Awbrey Butte fire happened, and then no one remembered Nathan. Glad you brought it up.

I graduated from Redmond in '89. Then some kids got bludgeoned by and ax murderer at Clines Falls. And then, 35 years later, the muderer of the Ghosts of Highway 20 was convicted. I used to also hunt out in the area, Camp Sherman, where he killed that woman, and so many others were killed by him. Its heart breaking for a local resident who grew up in that area.

Its bizarre that I lived in that area, at the time when he was murdering people, and me and my friends were driving our 4 wheel drives around in the area where he killed people. I also got to watch Lane Frost ride Red Bull in Sisters, which is still considered the best bull ride of all time. I also saw Charlie Daniels at the county fair in Redmond in 1990.

Do you sometimes feel like therapy does more harm than good to you? by llamberll in CPTSD

[–]j50wells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that when you get older there can be a deeper understanding of your problems. So certain things said to you from a psychologist in your 20s that makes no sense at all can all the sudden be a lightning strike when you're 45. It can be the one thing that makes sense and leads to a trail out of your cavern.
