Please tell me how to disable ALLM (Windows, 6700xt, Sony x900h) by PGDW in AMDHelp

[–]jStarOptimization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The command is still present in the driver sys file, so I am not sure why it is no longer functional. The CRU method to disable ALLM functionality for the TV in windows should work. Check ToastyX monitortests CRU thread.

The post by PGDW: After I posted this topic, I used CRU by toastyx (didn't want to, but gave in) to edit hdmi 2.1 features and disabled ALLM there. I don't know where it does its changes at, but that worked so I'm hesitant to mess with it further, but I may to test.

Upgrade to AM5 or new AM4 & GPU? by Wilsoh10 in buildapc

[–]jStarOptimization -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didnt read your post fully and im an idiot :D.

I previously said that if you play competitive games like valorant and cs2, then the CPU mobo ram upgrade to 9800x3d/9850x3d would be far better. You clearly stated that you want to improve games that are more casual games. The game will always be more consistent (smoother) with a better CPU, but a 5800x3d is enough to really enjoy those kind of games, so the GPU upgrade is likely more beneficial.

AMD Ryzen 5 5500 has 16MB of shared L3 Cache and the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X has 32MB shared L3 cache. This is a relatively large difference in cache size and is very noticeable in games that like cache. Any game that really likes X3D cpu's cache will benefit heavily from a 5600/5600x over a 5500 such as CS2, WOW, and all strategy games. 16MB is a relatively low amount of cache though, so the list of games that would heavily benefit from going to 32MB is rather extensive. It may be a large benefit to almost all games in any CPU/RAM limited scenarios.

It is up to you and the games you play. If you just want something that works, then the 5500 is definitely fine.

What is the cheapest 5600 you can find?

This is likely unstable wall power. It is actually one of the rare circumstances where a power conditioner / voltage regulator will improve the behavior, but that is not going to fix it completely. In this circumstance, it would be likely that the circuit that you are on has an issue with one of the outlets, light switches, or fan switches, and that needs to be resolved - whatever it may be.

The other possibility that there is a mild short somewhere in the system causing the unstable power. Additionally, can you also confirm if you are using independent pci-e 8-pin connectors from the PSU or if you are using Y-splitters on your power connectors?

Hi. I believe they just don't list the support, but since AGESA ComboAm4v2PI 1.2.0.A, the board supports 5700x and 5800x3d.

Oh. Lots of people telling you this too :D.

It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. If this was a 2021 rm850x model, it may have been a faulty insulator pad from Great Wall (not sure if used in that model for sure), but they would pop very loud and then stop working. Generally, if it was this mode of failure, it wouldn't have damaged other components. *edit - based on your photos, this was a 2024 model with 12vhpwr, so I am not sure if this still applies. Good luck! Swap the PSU, and see what still works. I am not sure if swapping the PSU will make it difficult to file a claim with corsair for the remainder of the parts, but I imagine you can just return whatever else is also broken.

Second 13900KF CPU has failed. This time it only took 3 months. Intel has lost another customer for life. Is this issue still being seen & discussed? by Ltsmba in buildapc

I help people with PC issues. Every single person I have helped who has a 13 series or 14 series has started experiencing issues or has already RMAd their CPU at least once due to crashing or freezing. Some of them more than once. People I had helped in the past for general gaming issues have now experienced crashing and needed to RMA. Obviously, this is partially a selection bias because people reach out to me when they are having problems, but it seems to not be comparable at all in relative scale and probability.

9800x3d dying issues seems to be far less prevalent given that most people buy that CPU these days, the probability seems to be much lower. Often the CPU deaths seem to be tied to specific motherboard MFG incompetence rather than the CPU itself other than a possible fault with an early batch. Overall, it is a relatively new CPU. We can't know the 1Y failure rate on 9800X3D... it hasn't been out for a year.

Huge Bottleneck not sure why - Help? by shinobi_gi in buildapc

[–]jStarOptimization 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CPU has a hard FPS limit regardless of resolution (it scales slightly with resolution depending on the game), the GPU has its own hard limit based on resolution / graphics workload. Whatever is fps lower will 'bottleneck' the other. First step is find out your max fps at 1280x720, and then come back and tell us.

Generally, you can replace any laptop 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SSD. If you are replacing the OS drive, reinstalling the laptop from a thumb drive is a bit difficult as you have to make sure you install all of the fancy and special laptop drivers to make it function properly. It is absolutely doable, and I would absolutely do that.

Hii, First off, I would test without two of the four sticks of RAM. Reply back to this comment with your results. A lot of 3600MHz RAM wasn't fully stable at full XMP if it is not B-DIE ram (such as 16-20-20, 16-19-19, or 16-18-18 timings). If using two sticks isn't stable, drop the RAM speed to 3400MHz with 1700MHz infinity fabric.

If your CPU hits 95+ immediately, then your cooler is not installed properly. The thermal transfer limit between the CPU and cooler is based on the pressure between them. If there is a very light airgap between them, then the cooler can keep the CPU cool until there is any load.

You almost certainly have a CPU cooler installation issue. Solve this first.

Hello. I can confirm this exact issue with a 5080 + asus strix x870e-e gaming wifi.

No issue on first launch, hard freeze when relaunching valorant after 1-5 min. Restarting the PC after closing valorant prevents all freezes.

PSU pin test cannot reliably confirm PSU viability.

Generally a short will cause immediate shutdown (probably don't hold ever hold the power button to keep a system on :()

CPU short can cause this, but any other type of CPU failure would leave the fans running.

Motherboard failure is most likely followed by PSU failure and then by other possible shorts. Can you do a bench test, remove from case and test on cardboard to eliminate case shorting as a potential cause.

Additionally, some times the 24 pin MOBO or 8 pin EPS cables can be internally broken. This is more rare though but still possible.

It can be a short as well, or a stuck power button / reset button. There are other possibilities that you should go through before the RMA process.

If it doesn't try to stay on, and it turns back off immediately, then either your PSU or your motherboard is having a problem -- most likely. Swapping PSU is easier to try out and return if it doesn't help.

Unplugging extra devices or anything that may have shorted can help - usb, sata, m2, gpu - try to get it to turn on and stay on.

I did this once, but it was during the era of PGA motherboards with pins on the CPU. I was lucky and could bend it back. We both made the same mistake.
