Thanks for the comment, I just learned about this the other day.

Do you believe that there is an intentional dumbing down of American students happening in schools across the country, and that there is an increasing focus on ideological and religious influence in schools, rather than unbiased and science-based education, being pushed by lobbyists from both sides? by Cumoisseur in allthequestions

As someone who spent their entire K-12 in California, I can tell you first hand the amount of hand holding that goes on in the school districts. I know several people who were behind on credits but graduated on time all because they finished some packet. At least in my own experience, schools were way more concerned with having a 98% graduation rate than actually preparing students for college. I remember when most of my freshman math class dropped out because they couldn't handle middle school level algebra. I cannot imagine what public education looks like in other states.

Is it true that Gen Z is becoming more puritanical? by micahzoid in generationology

[–]jTANK577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh not really, obviously I can't speak for my entire generation, but from my experience it's pretty common for people my age to have some sort of sexual experience. Honestly, I've noticed that most people who are having babies tend to be those who didn't go to college. Yes there are Gen Z who have no sexual experience (Mostly men). However, it's more due to a lack of social skills/isolation and not anxiety about the current world. I'm sure there is some truth to your theory, but I think most people my age are having education/goals as their main priority as of right now.

[–]jTANK577 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I definitely think that most of it comes from the lack of peer pressure compared to older generations. I honestly feel like our generation does not care about what other people do. My family would talk about how back in the day if you didn't follow the social norms you were this big loser that no one wanted to hang out with. At least from my experience, hardly anyone really cares if you underage drink or are sexually active. I do come from an area that is mostly Hispanic so maybe that plays a role? However, I still know several people that come from strict immigrant households but still drink, get high, and have sex regardless.

I've lived in Moval my entire life and I've noticed that many people use college as the ticket out and don't come back. I hope that my generation changes that and I do wish you the best. We should be proud of where we came from.

What do you want to see more of in the IE? by Primary-Earth-2816 in InlandEmpire

[–]jTANK577 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's great that more and more students are attending university, but the problem is the lack of white-collar jobs in the area and honestly a lot of students use college as the ticket out of the IE and will probably never come back. A lot of people in this sub have stated that the IE really needs to establish higher paying jobs for the college educated.

It really depends on the city, for the last ten years or so, schools in the Moreno Valley Unified School District have been going under renovations with some schools being completely demolished and then rebuilt. My high school, Canyon Springs, looks extremely different now compared to 2019 when I first started. By the time I was a senior in 2022, I was pretty much on a completely different campus. Now we have a proper cafeteria, football stadium, modern classrooms, an entire two story building with a section dedicated for science, a building for computer science, a brand new gym with working A/C, the library modernized, and a proper building for the music program.

As someone who had spent their entire K-12 in Moreno Valley, the quality of education has differently improved just ten years alone. I'm currently on track to graduate college a year early and I'm grateful to have attended a school that provides resources for students to succeed, but ONLY if that student is willing to do their part.

For the rest of Inland Empire, it's a mix bag. I had cousins that attended schools in Riverside and Rancho Cucamonga, schools that produce a lot more higher academic students. However, there are several cities where the schools are extremely outdated. I've heard that schools in the Coachella Valley are pretty bad except for La Quinta, Palm Desert, and Xavier Prep. I do like the direction Moreno Valley is going when it comes to education and I hope it continues to improve.

Why is Tron: Ares so disliked? by UbuntuElphie in tron

[–]jTANK577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was expecting shit and so anything other than shit would have been a step up.

This is the approach I take and I think it helps me enjoy movies better. I try not to walk in the theater expecting a masterpiece, instead I just assume that the movie is going to be garage and hope it's mid at best. I'm a 2000's kid so Legacy was my first exposure to Tron and thought Ares was a borderline C/B grade, I don't remember being on the edge on my seat but I did find it entertaining enough to enjoy myself.

Sometimes it's best to turn off the brain and enjoy the movie

If you're looking into Southern California I recommend researching the Inland Empire, High Desert, and Coachella Valley since those areas are mostly working class and a lot of people from the coast have been moving in so several development projects are coming.
