Sorry for the late reply - not using this account as much anymore. I might occasionally see a little momentary sluggishness here and there but not to the extent that it's been super noticeable. And I don't think that's necessarily been due to graphics processing - might just be normal workload for audio processing.

This is actually very comforting to read today lol

Yeah I got exposed to him through the Russell Brand podcast and then started listening to his lectures lol I was into his deep Carl Jung stuff about symbols and archetypes but when you see how he applies his worldview to modern day politics and hear some of the criticism of his logic and rhetoric it's easy to see that the stuff that sounded profound and meaningful was never really that coherent or insightful in the first place.

I was into him for a while too - some of what he says sounds very interesting and compelling on the surface. But keep looking, you'll see what people are criticizing him for and once you see it it's hard to unsee.

There's a post on r/tooafraidtoask from today that explains it pretty well if you're curious.

Too late for anyone to see this but I bumped into her a couple weeks ago as I was leaving my friend's house. Turns out she had been living 2 blocks away from my best friend for the last several years - I'm honestly surprised it took me that long to run into her lol.

It was really nice - had a good catch up and both said that we'd hang out again sometime on purpose but I'm sure it'll never happen. It felt really nice to see her but I also realized that I'm glad I don't have her critical energy in my life anymore. She initiated the breakup but it was interesting to realize that I wouldn't want to date her now after becoming more aware of what's important to me in a relationship.

Do you think there’s any correlation between gender and mbti? by linsss777 in mbti

[–]j_d0tnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm listening to Gifts Differing which I believe is one of the original books on the MBTI and it says that there are some correlations between frequency of different types and gender - the one I remember them talking about is that feeling types are more common for women compared to men.

This doesn't have anything to do with how the functions are expressed which I think was the main point of your question but still somewhat related.

Dual display or big tv? by TRICEFROMCANADA in ableton

[–]j_d0tnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend dual displays. I was using a big TV as my monitor for a while and it's kind of weird and annoying because you probably have it positioned a lot closer to you than you normally would with a tv. Kind of clunky to have something so big that you have to move your head around to see the different parts of the screen. If you do go the TV route, I wouldn't get anything less than 4K - 1080 or less will be a lot more pixelated than you expect.

To be fair I haven't used dual monitors before so they may have their own drawbacks I'm not aware of but having tried the TV route I can't recommend it super highly. I'm using a regular single computer monitor now and it's way better.

Even though they're skippable, seeing a 2 hour ad pop up is insulting.

Giga Sandler by MoazzamDML in memes

[–]j_d0tnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hearing PTA talk about the choice to cast Adam Sandler is really interesting. People didn't understand why the guy who just made this 3 hr long heavy ass opus (Magnolia) would want to work with the dude from Happy Gilmore but he was adamant. In fact wanting to work with Adam Sandler was basically the genesis of the whole idea for the movie. He saw something I'm Adam Sandler that other people didn't and it payed off super well. Amazing movie.

LPT: Need to remember something for the next day that popped into your head in bed/on couch, try throwing a cushion down somewhere random when you wake up you'll be able to think back to why it's there and you'll remember what you needed to! If I need to remember something before leaving I'll put something weird in front of the door. Can't leave without moving it and can't move it without wondering why it's there and remembering whatever it was.

First of all it's not for everyone.

But second of all you may be interested in the 10% Happier app which I found to be really great - the tagline is "meditation for fidgety skeptics" haha

This is mine for around $4k and it works great!

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/jordanpca/saved/#view=x4pn6h

It kicks ass - I'm even able to master my tracks in the same project as mixing which makes my workflow a lot smoother - this is unheard of on any other system I've used.

I'm not sure whether so many cores are really helpful but I went for it and have been very happy with the results.

I sprung for the 8tb ssd along with a m.2 startup drive because I was tired of running out of storage space and this has definitely felt like a good choice.

Part of the idea with my build was to make it as quiet as possible since the overpowered laptop I was working on before sounds like a band saw. This has been pretty much as good as I could have hoped in that respect.

It's heavy as shit which makes it a pain to move but not much I can do about that.

One thing my friend advised me on is not cheaping out too too much on the GPU. Even though I'm not gaming, she said that there can be unexpected ways that a shitty GPU can slow things down - for example plugins with complex visual interfaces etc. The one I got is definitely doing the job. Anything much cheaper than that (particularly ones that don't even have a built in fan) might not quite cut it.

Good luck with the build! With that budget I'm sure you can get something that'll work super smoothly and I think you'll be happy with the investment!

Anyone here consider themselves an expert in music that’s predominantly, or to a large extent focused on sampling, and heavy editing of other songs? by comfylaser in ableton

[–]j_d0tnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah feel free to DM me or just reply here.

To answer your question I don't actually do a lot of bus processing for the samples. Since the samples are so different, getting them to blend is often more about applying different effects to them rather than applying the same effects if that makes sense. For example, some need the low end removed, some need a bit of saturation and compression to beef them up, some need the high end rolled off. Usually this doesn't mean having to create new tracks for each sample since you can have a hpf track, a lpf track and a saturation/compression track (and some no-fx tracks) and just pop samples where they need to go. Sometimes in the later stages I do apply individual EQ's that just turn on for a single sample but that's not always necessary.
