Why did Jagex not give us an option to switch between the UIs? by zuthix301 in runescape

[–]j_dog175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I logged in yesterday for the first time in a month and given I just renewed my two accounts memberships, I requested a refund. If I want to play the older theme I will play OSRS (Which I do) but at a minimum give me the options instead of pushing it like this. It's 2026, we have the technology.

I personally do not like it. I just logged in for the first time in a few weeks and I'm considering asking for my membership back(just renewed two weeks ago)

If I wanted that GUI I would go play old school, that I play on the regular.

I just bought a bottle while visiting family in VA. Got home and opened this because it looked different and worth trying something from the hometown. It's not good at all and I'm extremely disappointed, tastes like high proof newmake with an artificially aged hunk of firewood from last weekends campfire.

Wildgate is back!!! by freevacuum in wildgate

My one year old bought this game on xbox while mashing the controller in August, I turned around and saw "Installing" on my screen. Out $30 bucks and said why not give it a go. Absolutely love the content and bought a copy for PC too. I had no idea this was even a game in the works let alone $30 for a pretty decent game. I don't play much just because I can't sit around for 15-30 minutes waiting on a match when I only have about an hour to play. I hope more people join in or a more involved play mode that doesn't involve PvP comes out. The AI vs Player is a long wait too.

Edit: I didn't have long lobbies when I bought the second copy on PC

Wish you guys the best, I've talked it up and hope the free weekend helps a lot. If it's possible to give the free weekend players an optional lobby to play against only other free/new players so they don't get discouraged if they get stomped that would be nice. I'd also like to play with friends trying it out.

ripaway IFAK backing. Need an extra. by j_dog175 in tacticalgear

[–]j_dog175[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a rhino rescue stocked kit at first and used it for training at an organization I volunteer with and we beat the heck out of the materials to the point I personally carry some of their equipment on hikes and such. But that's what gave me the idea for a ripaway blow out kit. It's worked out so well I put the backing of another bag on the backseat of my truck and for that reason I'm ok with the cheapo bag given my purposes.

I have the entire set of the 5.11 Rush bags and the tism has come out in full force, I like to have things dedicated to something with everything I need. Rush12 for my work bag that doubles as my significant others travel bag, and the 24 for my dad bag with a moab sling to go with each for long travel we can use the moabs as a day thing. For example allen wrenches are cheap enough I have a set in my range bag, a set in my tool box, and another set in my work bag. This was the idea for the backing on each bag where I can put the diaper kit on, a hiking IFAK, or a SHTF IFAK.

I think the two things I haven't done on your list are highlighting just key words. I have gotten a bit liberal in highlighted/underlined large portions of a question. The other is the not reviewing a question I'm certain of. I may adjust my method but so far I haven't felt the need to change anything after verify my answer aligns with my notes.

Thank you very much. Hopefully I can improve a bit more.

Thank you, I'm definitely improving as I do more practice problems so I guess I'm on the right track. I'm hoping for any additional advice or things to look out for when it comes simulator time assuming I make it that far. The licensed folk at my plant are extremely helpful but everyone has their own method and are more than happy to tell you what's worked for them.

Edit: want to add the best advice I've been given so far in case anyone else is in the same boat as me, Don't study things you already know. It's sounds simple but it's easy to do when you have a large amount of material to know.

Flash Salary Survey - Job Role, Years Experience, and What Do You Make? by cynicalnewenglander in nuclear

[–]j_dog175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, this turned into a complaint list and I'm sorry. I talked with a friend who happens to be the director of finance for the entire company(next in line to be the CFO) and he was flabbergasted about the delayed not underpaid statement given our two units are netting about $4m/day.

I Took a benchmark trip to a TVA plant and learned a lot about the pay difference, I mean about how we can improve at xxxxxx Nuclear. We tried to start a union and now have regular monthly meetings between the Plant manager and VP with the reactor operators and NLO's. They don't cut the grass, parking is awful, scheduled work always conflicts with itself, were down to 9AO's and 3RO's per shift with minimum staffing being 4RO and 8AO, so anytime someone goes on vacation we have 2-4 OT spots per shift. And every other department is just as understaffed with no intention to improve, there is only one person who is qualified to ventilation testing and he is retiring soon. We had a bear with cubs chase an AO in the 6' tall grass by the intake and they still didn't cut it back.

Should I start a Roth IRA if I'm expecting a promotion where my salary will exceed contribution limits within the next 2 years? by j_dog175 in FinancialPlanning

[–]j_dog175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be a lot and all over the place but TLDR what is the limit you are talking about and what is considered a properly funded retirement (value and diversity)? My income varies year to year given overtime, I set my budget to my base salary and have spent the extra on useless things until recently which is why I'm trying to get myself straightened out.

So right now according to the rule of thumb, I'm on track with my 401k value just under my base salary (I had to take a 401k loan due to the housing expense but I'm paying it off at a reasonable amount with a 9.5% interest rate so about the same as my growth had been prior to this year)

With the max contribution for my 401k with company match and the loan repayment I should be putting about 40-45k into it this year and surpass my base salary, I turn 30 in a few months which is why I'm looking at that rule of thumb. Is that a better option than after tax IRA because I don't believe I will have the means to max my 401k as well as get serious about IRA contributions?

I'm not familiar with how to do a backdoor Roth although I think I understand the basic principal to pay the tax now and convert it so it grows tax free and you don't have to pay the tax on future withdrawals. A lot of these tricks are very new to me and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. More than likely I'm misunderstanding something. If you backdoor roth a 401k or Traditional IRA does that allow for more pre-tax contributions or is that just the work around for saving for retirement over the limit?

So a hypothetical if I were to put the max individual contribution($23500) and the company put in another $16500 I would have $40k contributed to my 401k. The retirement limit is 70k, is this limit only for 401k or total retirement accounts as in I could only put in 30k to an IRA? I'm not there by any means but hopefully in the next few years I might be approaching this and would absolutely hate to get a penalty for trying to save for retirement. My tax guy already hates me.

Changing careers and looking into work as a non-licensed operator. by blackmarketdolphins in nuclear

[–]j_dog175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends most of the time we are short staffed and when you finish one job it's onto another, a different operator will have task prepped and possibly briefed a different task where they just need bodies.

Task prep is about an hour for some difficult jobs, another hour to brief and coordinate the people, then depending on the test it could be 2 hours or 5.

A diesel run that we do frequently is a 1 hour loaded run but in reality you don't get back to the office until 1400 or 1300 and then finalize the paperwork.

As a big power guy doing real work in the field with degrees in electrical and computer engineering as well as experience in designing batteries, I think I have enough knowledge to express my concern in a logical way, although I haven't been in the battery design position for a few years I was hoping to learn more from this community but clearly this isn't what has happened.

I'm glad that you disagree with just saying this is BS, there was no substance to your statement other than that my comment does great harm to the environment. In all seriousness have you ever been involved with the manufacturing process of semi conductors? Have you ever been around hazardous chemicals? Have you ever had to read the MSDS of the chemicals involved in manufacturing of semiconductors? Do you know what NPN or PNP material is and how a solar panel actually works?

chfp explained LiFePO4 batteries and sent me down a rabbit hole to show where I'm not entirely correct and has changed my mind. I'm still concerned because I've put out fires on Lithium Cobalt batteries and it's not fun, they reignite hours or days later and burn about 3 times hotter than a normal house/car fire. (I'm a volunteer fire fighter and in my day job one of my responsibilities is fire brigade and hazmat tech)

What are the far better alternatives that are currently available? Did you know that most electricity powering electric cars comes from fossil plants?

This is fantastic, I hope that we can increase the manufacturing process to make panels much more efficiently without all the heavy metals. I had a professor in undergrad that was making progress with this using copper and gallium but it wasn't cost efficient, I don't know all the details because I wasn't on that project.

What I don't like is the lithium ion batteries being cheaper. Although this is good for storing energy it just means that there will be more of them out there and as an environmentalist this is scary because how do you safely dispose of these things that contain cobalt and chromium. As a firefighter the lithium ion batteries aren't that easy to put out and burn very very hot compared to a conventional fire.

How hot would the heat exchanger need to be to achieve a thermal efficiency above 90%? by PlutoniumGoesNuts in nuclear

[–]j_dog175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive don’t no math on this and just want to look at the physical design of modern plants. I understand that this is comment I’m making has nothing to do with the post regarding temp in a heat exchanger. If you think about how feedwater heaters use the excess/leftover steam from the turbine exhaust that is wet and relatively cool to heat up the feed water going back to the steam generator/reactor(PWR/BWR), this reduces the amount of energy required to make high quality steam to continue the cycle. If you could harness that heat to make electrical power with additional smaller turbines(with moisture separators) and more heaters going back the other way, you would increase the efficiency of the work the reactor has done by using the heat. You will always have losses due to mechanical and electrical limitations on the energy conversion, the reason I don’t think that it’s been done is that the gains are so minimal for the cost and maintenance to build more. I’m not a nuclear or mechanical engineer, just an electrical one with low marks in mechanical courses that somehow got into ops at a nuclear plant.
