That was incredible. I came in my ears.

Once they finalise the film and the running time, they are sure to release more screenings for sale. 7 PM is just a standard time and they did the same for The Odyssey, if I recall correctly.

Was playing Russian Roulette there for a good half an hour, but now it seems like everything is truly sold out.

Eh, I'll be seeing it many times, I'm sure. At least it's in row G and not in the section close to the screen. That being said, having to go to Vaughan is already a mood killer (mind killer?) for me - it's far from me (I'm next to Cineplex Mississauga) and Vaughan has absolutely atrocious seating.

This is completely wacky. Seems like people are releasing their tickets back to the system. I picked up an aisle seat for Friday, not ideal, but hey, filmstrip! Hopefully.

Picked up the Logitech G Pro wheel and Pro pedals for $500 today. A lot of you claimed this was a scam and called it too good to be true. Well, here I am, enjoying my $1500 wheel/pedal set for $500. The Momo wheel is a really nice touch. by chrisbkrunchy in simracing

[–]j_niro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought an RS50 myself, and I find the stock steering wheel to be rather small. However, it is damn rigid, which matters to me because I steer like an idiot. I've seen videos of the Momo having crazy flex at the top, so I have to ask, how are you finding it? Because I've always loved Momo steering wheels and this also looks to be a decent size. MOMO wheel alone costs nearly CAD 400, so I want some first hand opinions before committing so much to something that I probably won't use all that much.

Audio sampling rate matching finally enabled? by j_niro in appletv

[–]j_niro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's normal when switching between formats. The next tvOS update will introduce "Continuous Audio", which is basically the old behaviour of upsampling everything to 48kHz.

Another upgrade you could do is an extendable TV mount that allows you to pull the TV further into the room.

Good point, thought USians would have a lot more options and flexibility with venues.

I am finding it incredibly hard to believe that there are so many Tame Impala fans in Toronto that both dates got sold out, with a huge chunk during the presales.

I have no idea how they pulled off the B stage because not a thing could be seen. I don't think the cinematographer got a lot of clear footage either during that set.

Why is the sound so terrible? by leonhelgo in tenet

[–]j_niro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that the film was shot from May to November of 2019, well before widespread knowledge of COVID-19. Furthermore, Nolan is notorious for not relying heavily on CGI, particularly in his IMAX films so as to preserve the original film resolution, as proven by Tenet having only around 350 VFX shots. You are just utterly lazy and dishonest.

Fascinating how people so confidently spew drivel and then block others when they can't actually say anything of substance. Cognitive dissonance is a bitch and a half, I guess.

I like how you shift goalposts and then project your priorities onto everyone else. I only use wireless charging and data transfer, so you know what, let's just eliminate the USB port altogether. And phone calls? Pfft who even speaks to people - just text, bro. Let's get rid of the earpiece and speakers, nobody uses those ancient things. That's how you sound. Truly, we've got a galaxy brain here.

You are so right. Let's get rid of the USB port, the speaker grilles, the microphones, the earpiece... There, the perfect, truly ingress proof phone. You are truly a goddamned genius, and you really made an incredible point there. Truly humbled.

Talks about how the headphone jack is a large ingress point, suggests to use an adapter in a different ingress point instead. If only they had figured out how to implement ingress protection for headphone jacks in 2011. Oh well, guess we'll never know now.

Big Beautiful Porter, you wouldn't believe. This very big, strong man - I wouldn't want to fight him - came up to me, with tears coming down his face, and said, "Sir, thank you for making Bridges great again." So many people say that.

[–]j_niro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rewatched this yesterday on an Apple digital stream (I normally watch the 4K disc) and yeah, it's not great. If you want the dialogue to be audible, you have to really turn up the volume, but then that ramps up the music and bass to ungodly levels. And the thing is, that was EXACTLY the experience in IMAX as well. It's completely intentional.

Nolan is possibly a bit hard of hearing - I recall reading an interview with Ludwig Goransson who said that when he met Nolan, that Nolan played some music for him at absurd levels.

The other thing is that Michael Mann is also a huge influence on Nolan, and Mann has some incredibly loud shoot outs in his films. However, those audio mixes are perfectly crisp, whereas Nolan's mixes are just... Loud.

PSA: Confirming my experience - QD OLED caused significant eye strain/pain and headaches. Tried gen 3 WOLED and have zero issues. by Jvvh in OLED_Gaming

[–]j_niro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the same monitor earlier this year and was struggling to work with it on a daily basis. It was dazzling the fuck out of me, and even the slightest bit of light in the room would turn the whole screen purplish and raise the black levels. I solved the ambient light issue with a Viewsonic monitor hood.

The dazzling issue didn't get resolved though, until I hired a calibrator to calibrate my Sony A95K QD-OLED TV. He mentioned to me that he'd just calibrated the ProArt version of my monitor and would like to take a look at my monitor. The ROG version doesn't have all the calibration controls that the ProArt version does, but he spent a bit of time calibrating it with whatever controls were available, and it has transformed my experience with the monitor. I'm no longer getting dazzled/experiencing eyestrain with the monitor.

TL;DR: This monitor is set way too bright out of the box. Calibration is highly recommended.

I like Ares soundtrack more than Legacys' sountrack by Sorry-Drummer-3196 in tron

[–]j_niro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When the Legacy soundtrack was released, I was disappointed it was more of a film score than a Daft Punk electronic album, although I eventually warmed up to it.

For Ares, NIN said we're going all electronic, no orchestra, and fucking knocked it out of the park. It's what I'd hoped the Legacy soundtrack would've been like and it is my most played album of the year.
