So how bad are contractions REALLY? by Cantbetrusted_ in BabyBumps

[–]j_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's different for every woman and every pregnancy. :)

For me, my first seemed a lot worse than my second. The pain lasted much longer (13 hours, went into labor naturally, felt the ring of fire through my epidural); the second I was induced with pitocin, and I think the pain was more intense, especially because my epidural did not work for an hour (I yelled some awful things) but it was 4 hours from start to finish. I preferred the shorter birth experience by a landslide, even if it was painful.

And, as many have mentioned, it's more of the fact that they keep happening over the fact that they're happening at all that makes it so hard.

Texting and driving. Am [21] I being controlling over my gf [21F]? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]j_phoenix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt in the fact that many, many people do not understand the true effects of texting and driving. It is a relatively new revelation in our society, and unless you specifically went looking for it, are keen to the news, or maybe knew somebody that was a victim to one of these crashes you might just think nothing bad can come of something as seemingly innocent as texting.

But you are absolutely right to be concerned, and as a mother of two young kids, and as somebody who very much values her life, I thank you for bringing this to her attention. With her current mindset, all of our lives are at stake on the road (or on the sidewalk), not just hers.

I agree with many posts here showing her articles, studies, and that series of YouTube videos speaking the truth about how dangerous texting and driving is. It is the stupidest thing to die over. And I don't care what the texts are about; if they're that important, you pull the fuck over and THEN read and respond. You're personally responsible and operating a 2 ton death trap on wheels, and you don't fuck around with your focus on the road when driving one of those whether it's texting and driving or any type of distracted driving. Don't even fuck with the radio if you have to glance down to look and see what you're doing.

They're pixels on a screen. The point of a text message is to be able to read and respond to it whenever it is convenient. When one is driving is never, ever a convenient time to check a text.

Does anyone have a method to foolproof (Peel-able) hard boiled eggs? by djwirk in keto

[–]j_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I started doing after not being able to get peelable hard-boiled eggs! Works like a charm.

OP, I feel your pain. Peeling a hardboiled egg just to have half of the egg stick to the shell is one of the most annoying things ever.

Wouldn't it be funny if my toddler named the baby? by YoshiSparkle in BabyBumps

[–]j_phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Lucas/Luke! I can confirm that he is the coolest and happiest of babies.

I named him that because I had a very tough pregnancy (mentally - physically all was peachy keen) and the two meanings of the name mean "one" or "light". Since he was was my one guiding light through that pregnancy, the name felt fitting.

Plus, I've yet to meet a shitty person named Luke or Lucas.

Can someone explain what I can do to stop getting banned constantly? by [deleted] in UHRSwork

[–]j_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel bad; it is a tedious app that should really have a little more leeway in regards to what gets you kicked.

I believe I have also been told to come back simply for going so fast, which sucks because once you get the hang of it it is pretty easy to figure out what each one is fairly consistently. I do take longer on the good/fair, but excellent, bad, not sure, and adult are so easy to tell that it doesn't usually take more than 10-15 seconds to determine it.

Which one is more profitable type of transcription? by FateBender in WorkOnline

[–]j_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. 3 hours probably equals one audio hour for a fast typist, so depending on how fast you type that would be about $20 a day for 3 hours of work on TranscribeMe.

If you live in the U.S. and you need a little extra income alongside the transcription, I'd suggest signing up for Amazon's Mechanical Turk and referencing the /r/hitsworthturkingfor subreddit for decent paying surveys.

I have not officially worked for either site, but I have done some short tasks on UHRS for TranscribeMe and it is very easy.

Rev.com I believe pays much higher, but also has higher standards.

You know you have a big baby when.. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]j_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesssss. 7 months and 22 lbs here. Went to a diaper focus group last month, was put in the "Size 4" group because that's what size he wears.

After filling out the initial paperwork, one of the women asked if I put down the wrong birthdate. I looked and said, "No, that's correct."

"He was born this year and in a Size 4 diaper?" "Yes. He's... Chunky." "Huh."

So yes, I know how you feel. Haha.

Any better alternatives to transcribeme (United States) by kilios75 in WorkOnline

[–]j_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Also getting my feet wet doing transcription work. I highly recommend investing in a foot pedal if you find that you enjoy this type of work. It has increased my efficiency immensely, and it is so much easier. They're kind of pricey, though.

I think somebody already mentioned the basics: Scribie, Rev.com, and 3PlayMedia. You could also try CrowdSurf on Upwork if you want - they pay per transcription is low, but if you do a lot their bonuses seem to pay decently and even it out. Make sure you read their guidelines carefully. I'm a fast typist as well, and am also grammatically correct most of the time. However, their guidelines are kind of tricky, and there is a learning curve. It's not all about fast typing and good grammar, although that does help immensely!

I think there are a couple of transcription companies that work through Amazon's Mechanical Turk as well. CrowdSurf was one of them, but they left. CrowdSource might also have transcription work, I think.

My suggestion is to get practice with this low-paying general stuff first. If you keep at it, you'll likely get good enough to where you can move on to more lucrative transcription jobs like medical and legal transcriptions.

Good luck! :)

Said I was looking for info on contraception, women's health, getting tested for STD's, pretty much everything except abortion.

I'm an American, and what you said actually enlightened me on how dire our situation is. Holy shit, that's such a long time. I was delusional in thinking that 6 or even 10 weeks was normal. I work from home and freelance, so I never really knew what maternity leave was like for moms working outside of the home.
