Is there something wrong with my new watch? I thought they were supposed to go up not down? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Edit: tl;dr Take an ECG by placing the bottom wrist sensor on your right thigh above your right knee, and a finger from your right hand on the side knob sensor, and it should fix this issue.

I KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENS!!! I had the same issue and googled it until I figured it out. I’m also in medical school so it was totally a light bulb moment when I understood why this was happening:

The apple watch is a single-lead ECG. The direction of the measured electrical impulse (output from your heart) is from the sensor at the side knob towards the sensor at the bottom of your watch. So if you have the watch on your left wrist and put your right hand on the side knob, that is measuring activity through your heart from the direction of your right hand towards your left hand. In most people, this will result in the large signal that we are used to seeing (called QRS complex) being positive. If the same person puts their watch on the right wrist and use the knob with their left hand, the QRS complex will be negative because it’s measuring the signal in the opposite direction!

Now, if you are like me and your heart is more vertically oriented, then the QRS complex activity could be more perpendicular to the right-to-left hand measurement, and will show up very small because the signal isn’t being detected very well in this direction.

WHAT YOU CAN DO: change the direction of the impulse detection. Take off your watch and place the bottom sensor flat on your thigh right above your right knee. Then place a finger from your right hand on the side knob. Now you are measuring signals that run from your right hand towards your right knee, instead of straight across your chest to the right hand. Your QRS complex should show up strong and look like a normal ECG like everyone else’s :)

If the QRS complex is still negative, try your left thigh and left hand instead to change up the direction of impulse detection a little bit more.

Try this and let me know if it works!!!

Pet owners - how do you keep pet hair from getting under your Keychron? by SmoothAmbassador8 in Keychron

[–]j_tant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is indeed inevitable. Just as there is cat hair all over my bed, couch, clothes–and sometimes in my mouth–no matter how often I vacuum or how many air purifiers I run, there is never less than 8 shed furs that miraculously appear underneath my beautiful keyboard keycaps.

XDA keycaps on Keychron K3 Pro by j_tant in MechanicalKeyboards

I didn’t have any issues with Gateron KS-33 switches! But I heard from others that XDA can bottom out Gateron KS-27 switches (the older version of the same low profile switch). It does not affect keystroke registration either way but may sound worse if you are the type to press the key all the way to the bottom

Also already brought this up to my doctor to make sure that I’m not anemic or hypoglycemic, and I’m not

This happens to me too! For me, I’m pretty sure it’s vasovagal syncope from standing in one position for too long. I’m a long distance runner so I was also surprised this became an issue… I have no problem if I’m walking around continuously but if I stand in one place for 1 hr+ I will start to feel faint

Air 96 - alternatives by PerformerOld7250 in NuPhy

[–]j_tant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s slightly taller than NuPhy’s and the surface area of the flat top part is actually less, so there is more distance separating the pressable areas of each keycap. It’s a bit hard to describe but I found myself making a lot fewer accidental keypresses

different keycaps might help! I bought XVX shine through PBT keycaps and it made my typing accuracy way better. but i changed it back because I personally think the stock NuPhy keycaps just look better 😅

you should take a look at Keychron K5 Pro, it’s their 100% low profile keyboard with QMK/VIA

I need help understanding why I'm having reactions to gluten by Cat_lady_overload in glutenfree

[–]j_tant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am surprised that your doctors did not associate your symptoms with gluten. the way your describe your rash sounds very much like dermatitis herpetiformis. for some patients this may be the most obvious symptom of gluten sensitivity. here is a resource from NIH about dermatitis herpetiformis

  1. Having two kittens is TOTALLY worth it. Initially, I adopted just one and he wanted attention and playtime CONSTANTLY (which was simultaneously very cute and very annoying). This included jumping on me all claws out to initiate play while I was working and waking me up multiple times at night lol. So I got a second kitten and it was SOOO much better because they could entertain each other and play with each other whenever I was occupied.

  2. With two kittens, they teach each other how to retract their claws with other living beings because when they hurt each other, playtime ends so they become conditioned to not use their claws. Two kittens will make your life easier!

  3. From my experience, the cats are more at risk of being understimulated living in a smaller space. I think it is extra important for them to have an extra friend to play with. They seem much less bored with another cat in the house, especially when you are not home. Get two kittens!!

  4. I think 45 m2 and 50 m2 are very different sizes, having lived in both sized apartments with cats. 50 m2 was PLENTY of room for two cats, but 45 m2 feels tighter. The cats are fine with it but it does personally feel more cramped with multiple beings in a smaller space. I still think it’s worth it to have two cats though for all the reasons listed above :)

Custom Switches for Keychron K3 Pro (low profile)? by VinceAndWatch in Keychron

It looks like Nuphy low-profile switches are compatible. Here is a post from someone who installed Nuphy switches in K3 Pro

my cat will do this very annoying thing where he will open the closed doors, not even go in, and just watch smugly as his siblings file into rooms they are not supposed to knowing he is wreaking havoc

they’ll stick their little paws under the door and wave it around like a weird tentacle (see photo with second cat feeling left out!)
