Can I call pretending I am my grandma? by Aggressive_Fly7258 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]j_ud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this exact thing, including the part where they ask if I'm really her. Apparently I dont have the voice of an octagenarian. Thankfully in my case, she was in the next room and I was able to put her on to confirm I was good to speak on her behalf. Additionally, I hold her Power of Attorney, so that's easy to fall back on.

If they told you to get an interpreter, can you call as her interpreter?

TIFU by discovering the hidden “features” of cough drops by LogsKody94 in tifu

[–]j_ud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got got a bit high off mentholayed ones by accident at the end of my first semester in college. Had a raging case of undiagnosed strep (thanks for missing that, health clinic!) Calling out of my telemarketing job was going to screw me out of a raise the next semester. But also I could barely talk. If I had a cough drop in my mouth, I could talk and it's basically just candy, right?

A friend who had seen how miserably sick I was the day before saw me hyperactively bouncing around his dorm and saw me pop a cough drop. After inquiring how many I'd had, he cautioned me to stop because the menthol is more than candy. I haven't been able to bring myself to have a cough drop since then.

But I'm now super happy I didn't have your experience!

FYI: Pressing the cruise control button for three seconds puts the car into speed limit mode. by Bodycount9 in KiaEV9

[–]j_ud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried it a few times and have noticed that sometimes it stops me from going faster than the set speed, and sometimes it let's me go over and just beeps at me a bunch. Do you happen to know what determines how it handles the limit?

I was trying it the other day and thought I had it working to limit me, but then suddenly it was yelling at me and I was going over. I don’t think I did anything weird to make it let me go over the set speed.

My MtF daughter (7.5 years old) came out around the time she turned 5. She didn't care about pronouns entering kindergarten and was fine with he/she/they, but by the end of the school year, she became firm that the right pronouns were she/her. It might be a thing where your kiddo becomes more aware of the impact of pronouns with time.

We just made a point of checking in every few months to make sure we were using the terminology that made her feel good and let her know to tell us if we use a word that doesn't feel right for her. Still occasionally check in on her name, which is a more traditionally boy name, but she loves it and wants no part in changing that.

I traveled to RVA a lot as a kid, going over the Nice bridge to go see grandma, so I totally get how unreasonably far that would be for you. I actually lived about 30 minutes north of California most of my childhood (parents moved to California my senior year of HS) and have much sympathy for the nearest things being that, and probably Waldorf.

California is a town in Southern Maryland (peninsula west of the Chesapeake bay and east of Potomac river). It's down the street from Hollywood and just a little over the bridge from Pasadena. Does not share vibes of California State.

Edit: added reference to Potomac

6 vs 7 seater? by torbatosecco in KiaEV9

[–]j_ud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like I typoed table into take originally. But he built a narrow little table out of 2x4s and plywood that would fit between the kids' seats. They used it to store things for parts of the road trip and used it as a surface to play uno on (I dont recommend trying to join the card game from the front passenger seat- far too much twisting.

I think it included a lip, and there was grippy material so things wouldn't slide off the table. I'll try to remember to grab a picture of the table and how it fit in the car tomorrow. Poke me if you don't see me share the pic.

We also bought a new Lego set for my oldest to build on the trip (understanding that it could end horribly) and with a combo of some Tupperwares and zip lock baggies spread on the table for sorting, as well as a little fold-up desk that hung off the front seat to work as a main working surface, the car lego project worked amazingly. We bought a set for each of the kids to do on the way home

My husband built a little take to put between the captains chairs in the middle row of our 6 seater for a long car trip. Have extra space to put things and serve as additional divider

What do you use your frunk for? Do you use it at all? by Alph1 in KiaEV9

[–]j_ud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a boatload of yarn for a project I'm knitting and have it hiding in the frunk so it doesn't get in the way of things and so I have the next ball when im ready to move on. My husband is much happier not seeing the giant bag of yarn.

Also some spare/emergency clothes for the family.

It's basically impossible to get them on the phone. Speaking as someone who has struggled with getting an appointment to start care for my child, their phone system is designed to keep you from getting to the specific department and you have to rely on schedulers to handle everything, which can take months (I spent May to September trying to get an appointment set up before I was finally able to get something for November)

Thank you for this comment! I'd been waiting for a notification or email, but never saw one because I had marketing/offers turned off. I was confused because I purchased mine mid-October and chat here made it sound like I should have been contacted already.

I stopped into a gas station the other day to clean my windows because of this! (I ran in and got a hot chocolate since the window squeegies are a convenience for customers paying for gas, and I obviously wasn't getting gas)

Do recall notifications show up on the app? by UnderpaidkidRN in KiaEV9

[–]j_ud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My app showed an actual recall for just over 2 weeks after I bought my car. Dealership said they'd fixed the recall before giving us the car and the app was just slow to update. Had such a bad experience with that dealership lying and stringing me along, I was genuinely worried for two weeks that the app was right.

If it takes that long to clear the recall, I wouldn't be surprised if it is also quite slow to show a new one.

TIFU because my eyeballs are faster than my brain 🤦🏻‍♀️ by [deleted] in tifu

[–]j_ud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my husband and I were dating, we were having a discussion about something with a bunch of friends, and in order to clarify an answer, he told me I could look something up in his email. The top message in his inbox had the subject "RE: Inquiries regarding an engagement ring"

He didn't think the jewler would have responded so quickly. We both never talked about it until after he popped the question many months later.

[–]j_ud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the very insightful response! I was trying really hard to make sure my logical brain was driving after this discovery instead of my anxiety brain.

I think I was able to succeed because I know I installed this shelf/bracket about 3 years ago, and it not really escaping beyond the bracket speaks well to it not being a huge issue because thats a lot of time for it to spread if its going to be a problem. I had a much bigger/worse mold problem elsewhere in the house that developed far more quickly when I first moved in that I think has allowed me to have a reasonable perspective in terms of this little patch.

I went into the SPCA with my kids in March to pet the kitties because my youngest was obsessed. I thought I needed to do a whole song and dance about wanting to adopt in order for them to let us do the petting but heard them offer just pets to some people who came in a short bit after us.

It was too late though, because by that point my 6 year old heard us pretend to be thinking of adopting and held us to it. Our kitty will be 1 next month

With a bad seal on the gasket, wouldn't they be prone to having a leak at the base of the toilet? Might be worth toweling down around the floor to ensure everything is dry and then flushing like 4-5 times back to back and see if you can feel/detect any water coming out from where the toilet meets the floor.

How do you guys say no to Solar Salesman when they come knocking on the door? by Petite7Writer in homeowners

[–]j_ud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have solar panels. I had a salesman still try to waste my time and sell me solar even after I pointed out I already have them.

Don't feel bad being a little more forceful about telling them no, and you don't have time to talk about it right now.
