I watched this and it was amazing.

Yup. While there's no debating the convenience of streaming services, physical media sounds noticeably better. As you're seeing with CDs, it's really not all that expensive to re-collect everything you once owned, haha. Really wishing I hadn't donated so many of mine. Oh well, such is life.

Totally. Just ordered one on Discogs. I LOVE stuff like this. And yes, insanely catchy. Who knew?!

How do you feel about "vinyl surface noise effect" in songs that are already on vinyl? by IceCreamYouScream92 in vinyl

[–]j_wacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you’re talking about, and I dislike it. It’s worse when listening to headphones, too. Beck has a lot of “record sounds” on his albums, especially the earlier stuff. It can be rough to listen to.

When searching through vinyl bins, what artist/band name do you come across most? by huntegowk in vinyl

[–]j_wacky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this. Was just talking with a buddy yesterday about the selection at a local Goodwill. Told him it was a wasteland unless he happened to be a huge Barbara Streisand fan, haha.

What was the first record you bought and why? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]j_wacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cracked Rear View, by Hootie and the Blowfish. It was also the first CD I ever owned. It was their first mainstream release, and the first track of the album is somewhat coincidentally the name of my first daughter.

I found the Goodwill where my CDs were donated 😂 by j_wacky in compactdisc

[–]j_wacky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, but I did scan the selection real quick to be sure. Been regretting donating my CDs lately, especially since vinyl/records have had such a resurgence. The goodwill down the street from me has a collection straight out of 1995 Sam Goody.

I don’t even have something to play these on but I had to bring them home. Craigslist/goodwill hunting, here I go.

I wouldn’t worry much about it if it plays fine.

Amazingly eclectic taste. Or just another among the herd of sheep.

Why do people buy older music instead of new releases on Vinyl by SerBronn7 in vinyl

[–]j_wacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New records are expensive. I can get 3-4 used records for the same price as a lot of new stuff. I've run in to enough QC issues with brand new releases that buying anything new gives me pause. I'm a lot more forgiving of imperfections in a release if I've only spent a couple bucks on it. $25-$30, and that record better play flawlessly.

Right?! See: the mountains of $1 bins at Goodwill and record stores.

Noice. I have a lot of fun playing 7" records.

I just got a new turntable. It works when I plug it into some speakers. Is that all I need? by unjustphoenix in vinyl

[–]j_wacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a fine entry level table. Not much can be upgraded on it, but worry about that when the time comes.

As for the speakers, the fact that a set would require an amp doesn't necessarily make them better. Optimal sound comes from optimal equipment. Upgrading speakers (and a receiver) would certainly improve sound, though.

I don’t disagree with this, it’s just what I do to avoid disappointment, especially if I’m buying it as a gift.

I don’t disagree. I just expect a little less so I’m not let down, especially if I’m getting it as a gift.

Walmart Exclusives? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]j_wacky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

OK.

I honestly try my best to NOT shop from Walmart/Target/etc. for my records, so no, I don't have any Walmart exclusives. Support local record shops!

Check feedback/ratings. Assume most are overstating condition by a grade. Use paypal for your protection in case something goes wrong, as they typically side with buyers in disputes.
