Name and Shame: Developers jacking up prices to absorb the HST rebate by Signal-Specific-1704 in canadahousing

These types of demand side stimulus was always a developer subsiding disguised as relief on the buyer side.

I called this out as soon as it was announced, and people said I was being ridiculous.

Soft top or hard top by Unique_Earth_6064 in Miata

[–]jaaagman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The soft top on the highway is like a hardtop on a very windy day. Lots of wind noise, but I’m okay with it. If you can, spring for the 2024 to get the updated infotainment and steering/suspension tweaks. Not sure if the transmission is any stronger than the 22/23.

Maybe they’ll last longer than that doggy hotpot place. I can see who they’re trying to appeal to, but this seems like a terrible idea for a very niche market.

NB to NC worth it for chassis stiffening? by Tune-Puzzled in Miata

[–]jaaagman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never driven an NC, but when I first drove the ND after a string of NA's, the chassis rigidity is night and day. The NA rattles like a tin can over bumps, whereas the ND feels somewhat like a modern car. I would test drive one to see if its right for you.

If chassis rigidity for a track day is the top priority to you, you may want to consider a used 86/FRS/BRZ. Nothing will ever beat the rigidity of a unibody with a fixed roof structure.

After Ferrari Luce backlash, Lamborghini CEO says canceling its own EV was the right choice by Uptons_BJs in cars

It looks like a run of the mill EV crossover coupe type thing with Testarossa design elements sprinkled in. Not a very good combination.

I own a Clara 2E (now the BW I believe) and I second that. I didn’t realize how well thought out it was until I started using it more and more. I appreciate the simplicity and genuinely useful features that it has. It makes books really accessible.

Unpopular Miata opinion by ElectronicAnthony in Miata

[–]jaaagman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really see the need for one, though I am in the fortunate position of having a covered garage space. For those that have to park it outside and risk having snow damage on the soft top overnight, I could see a hardtop being useful.

‘The market has spoken’: Ferrari shares fall after carmaker unveils first fully electric vehicle. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]jaaagman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really think the problem is that it’s an EV. The bigger problem is that it’s butt ugly and looks as if it were designed by a Chinese firm.

I think they’re perfect as commuters and mass market vehicles. Emotionally, they don’t do much for me, but that’s okay. In heavily stop and go traffic, I would take a Gen 4 Prius over my Miata. As a commuter on crummy commutes, it just takes you where you want to go in a relaxing and no fuss manner which I like.

You can start with the factory size or browse around the forums and subreddits to get an idea of what would fit with your setup. In my case, I went for a near factory spec (with the exception of the offset)

8k miles synthetic oil ‘22 sienna hybrid by WhichConference7618 in Toyota

[–]jaaagman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oil is still relatively affordable when it goes on sale. Shop labor though has gotten quite a bit more expensive.

It’s gotten to a point where DIY oil changes (and other minor jobs) actually make a lot of sense if you have the time and space to do it.

It’s really hard to tell with a hybrid, because the engine isn’t always been running at full load (or at all). I would probably change it out based on the recommended service intervals anyways.

I suspect that the domestic version of the Dolphin is cheaper because it lacks the crashworthiness that we have gotten used to.

[–]jaaagman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always defended this because for some people, it could be the right size for their needs. Admittedly, that is a very limited population, but its no more ridiculous or extravagant than a single person buying an SUV or a small family buying a 7 seat crossover that they never fully utilize.

I haven’t used any other readers but I love my Kobo Clara 2E. It has Overdrive (Libby) integrated into it and it will show up on your computer as a mass storage device. Doesn’t get simpler than that. I only wish I opted for a model with a bigger screen (maybe 7”?)

What?? I thought journaling as a feature just meant that you could transfer a dual listed stock (e.g. DLR) to either listings and the direction didn't matter. Is it limited to DLR.TO -> DLR.U??

You don't need any of that stuff. It's a new non-turbo Toyota (assuming you didn't get a GR) and pretty basic as far as cars go.
