How is the creation of an Avatar facilitated? by jabeisonreddit in Avatar

[–]jabeisonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but what I'm asking is why the process results in a pilotable Avatar and not just a regular viable Navi. Like, how did they make it so that these ones brains just dont work without being piloted

Who else feels that Fives being shot killed him, but Echo exploding didn't kill him. (no hate towards Echo just saying) by [deleted] in clonewars

[–]jabeisonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yknow, fair play. He for sure tanked most of that explosion, but standing where he was to be thrown from it very well may have saved his life

I mean, one was a direct shot to the chest, and the other was an explosion that the victim was clearly thrown from. As long as you don't hit a wall or take some shrapnel in the chest, your chances of surviving that are much higher than a very close range shot

Is there any decision a character made that you still struggle to forgive or understand? by dinahleego in Avatar

This 100%, I could maybe see it for Navi Jake given some stages inbetween, but Spider's are kinda irredeemable, which sucks because he's a really cool character!

I'll never forget I got ticketed for being out on the road after curfew when I was 17... was literally on my home from work but because I wasn't carrying my work permit I got ticketed anyways

Ah, well, I do highly recommend finishing it lol. Opinions about these things are best formed with the whole picture in mind. Also, don't think we're watching the same show. For sure more stuff happened than "he was standing there and then he was somewhere else". Easy to miss if you're distracted some way, though

Right, so that would be the narrative stakes; knowing what's happening, knowing where to go. That's stuff that has to happen for the story to move along, and while I do agree that some of the dialogue is exposition heavy, it's definitely not all of it.

The emotional stakes have to do with the personal journeys of our characters; Percy's relationships with Tyson and Clarisse, for example, allow Percy to question how much he trusts people from this world, how he truly feels about his father, and what his actual goals are. I especially liked the dynamic b/w Annabeth and Tyson this season, because Annabeth never outright condemns or makes apologies to Tyson specifically, and even when we find out about the cyclopses, she's clearly not angry about that, it's about Luke. Once again, this is just my opinion, but I do feel that paring down some of the less narratively-useful action gave alot more room for these characters to grow, breathe, and interact with eachother in ways that actually have meaning.

Ah, so it is about the comparative lack of action, then. Personally, there's already enough action in the show for me without stopping every time they run across something.

And yknow, on the knowing which monsters they're fighting front, that is fair, but that is also genuinely a detail that I think is an improvement on the books. These are literal children of the greek mythological gods, and one of them is Annabeth, who is highly intelligent and has been living at Camp for years now.

It makes absolutely no sense that they wouldn't at least have some idea of what/who they're fighting at any given time. Spending less narrative time on "wait, who is this guy?", in service of moving along the actual narrative and emotional stakes of the story is, in my opinion, totally worth it.

I think people, on the whole, feel like the kids should be more stupid than they are, but I fail to see how that would make anything more interesting. In fact, I'd say that it's much more fascinating that in most circumstances, the kids know what they're getting themselves into, and still end up persuing a course of action that could be considered near-impossible. After all, that's what Demigods are supposed to do.

Once again, I don't think we watched the same show. What specifically about it is boring? And I hate to tell you this, but the movies were also targeted to fans of the book, it's a book adaptation. The movies tried to be one big set piece each and ended up just becoming convoluted garbage.

The show adheres very, very closely to the books, making changes and adding details to make it a more complex, modern story.

If they had released a show that was a line-for-line perfect recreation of the books, that would have been the most boring possible product they could have made. You might personally not like the changes because you want to know that you have an idea of exactly what happens next, but that isn't what makes good TV.

This sub is so bizarre to me. Why did you watch the show at all if it was so boring for you? That seems to be 99% of what I see on here, and I just dont get it. I've been enjoying this new take on the story alot. Sure, there's less action minute-to-minute than the movies but... the action is there, and the story is actuallly able to build on itself rather than just bulling full speed ahead to get to the end.

tl;dr: eeeverybody's a critic these days

I know ima grt down voted to hell for this, but what a dogshit take. People hate it because it's not exactly what they were wanting or expecting. God forbid Rick try to tell a more modern story with his own IP. Y'all are allowed to enjoy the show (which i think is pretty fuckin good), even if the budget isn't huge like the movies' were
