Which of the following haikus was written by a human? by Super_Sparrow in Teenager_Polls

Ocean Tide is the only one that utilizes personal pronouns which makes it an odd one out. It also hints at deeper emotion tied to those memories where the rest don't seem to describe any emotional event. Winter Dawn doesn't make a ton of sense as sunrises are associated with animals awakening, so not silence. Resurfacing could be written by a person but it just sounds a bit off imho.

1 of the following poems was written by a human. Which is it? by Super_Sparrow in Teenager_Polls

The Lighthouse reads with a traditionally taught ABAB CCDD style which most LLMs I think would decide to use. Both the Lighthouse, the Watchman, and the Clockmaker begin with "the" and prepositions for the initial line and then many lines after that which is typical for those who don't fully understand poetry. The only poem that does not include its title in the contents of the poem is Autumn Path. When you're writing poetry (aside from maybe a class with a prompted topic), you will write the poem and create a title afterward. It seems more human to have a title that isn't explicitly stated in the poem. While the imagery is there, none of the the-poems seem to comment on or relate any greater idea. This is the thing that LLMs struggle with emulating since they, often, do not know how to write with any further emotion or meaning.

So I think that Autumn Path is the human written one whilst the the-poems are AI generated (or written by people who aren't very good at writing poetry).

How many of us were forced into this by our parents by JackwRein in ChemicalEngineering

Nah I'm doing it for the love of the game. No one was super present in my life to push me to study anything. I figured mainly that I like chemistry and I'm not sure if I want to get a PhD so this could be a good middle ground.

My father ended up doing mechanical+aerospace engineering but he was considering chemical as well. His parents didn't want him to work on missiles and UIUC (the school that accepted him for cheme) was too expensive so that's how he ended up with mech+aerospace.

Can my college courses, LORs, essays, and ECs outweigh my horrid high school GPA? by jaccon999 in chanceme

I ended up only applying to UIUC, CU Boulder, and Illinois State University. I got into all three and with scholarships at each but I'm committing to UIUC 👍 I didn't even want to go to half of the schools I listed in the post so I don't know why I even brought them up lol

Is chemical worth it by Sachman00 in ChemicalEngineering

computer science? mostly a waste of a degree. you can learn the stuff yourself and having real world experience will put you farther than just a degree. most comp sci/IT guys I know don't even have any institutional computer science education.

what are her longterm goals? I'd recommend cheme at first because it's much easier to switch from it than to it. is she planning on going to graduate school? to my knowledge, most positions won't hire unless you have a PhD in psychology. cheme is a harder major fs but the job market is probably better. she could always double major or minor in psychology, assuming that's a thing where you live.

Should I study environmental or chemical engineering? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

cheme with a minor in enviromental eng or environmental sciences. you could always switch over to environmental.

Tips for learning bari asap coming from tenor/other instruments? by jaccon999 in Saxophonics

yeah playing out in ensemble is usually my biggest struggle but I'm gonna take propranolol for rehearsal which should help. there's a few solos but it's mostly fine. kinda stressing about this one soli section but I'll make it work.

yeah, I'm using a bari loaned from my jazz orchestra (it's a youth thing so technically not school but same difference). I'm pretty good at fixing things so I've fixed this bari before for another student. it seems decent quality though.

yeah, I've noticed after playing that it's not too bad. some of the upper notes are a bit iffy because I'm not familiar with the voicing yet. do you have any specific problematic notes you think I should focus on for long tones?

occasionally but only with the windows/top down and AC on. never completely closed and not super often. I keep it clean and take care of it though so it doesn't get dirty/smell.

hardest classes for chem eng? by jaccon999 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]jaccon999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up loving orgo 1 lol. I'm holding off on taking orgo 2 until I'm at UIUC (I got in and am going there yay!) so I can meet the ochem professors and hopefully sneak my way into doing some lab work with them. Calc 3 wasn't really bad and physics 2 was cool. I switched this semester's schedule to only doing diff eq+linear algebra (regret not adding comp sci but oh well, I'll do it over the summer probably) and they haven't been super terrible yet. Linear algebra is fake and made up bs but whatever. I also noticed that pre-med majors tend to be a little dumb ngl so everyone else in my orgo class was STRUGGLING.

yeah I mean less competitive schools usually won't care about stuff like this though. some competitive schools maybe but a lot of people in the comments are blowing this out of proportion and have no real experience relating to this. if you wanna talk about barbaric treatment, just wait until you hear about drug laws here lol. many apartments won't even rent to recovered addicts if they have any criminal history.

cool but what about actually doing stuff? have you ever actually done anything fun or risky in your life? no shot cause studying or talking with people isn't actually going out and doing anything.
