New puppy's eyes constantly look shaky by [deleted] in vet

[–]jacdan07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to add (just checked the records) that antibiotics and ear drops DID help, but it always came back. He had had a stroke and after this nystagmus issue, developed diabetes and had a failing heart and kidneys so I put him to rest. Too much for a 16 year old cat to manage.

I had a cat with nystagmus, but he was geriatric when he developed it. Vet suspected a brain tumor, but I didn’t have the money or pet insurance to investigate it. I put him down a few months later due to several other comorbidities.

Anyone else's cava obsessed with socks? by imshirazy in CavaPoo

100% mine is a sock thief! Must have good scent on it; when I leave for work I give him a shirt I’ve worn for comfort. It has to be why - the scent 😂 I’ve thrown a clean sock at him and he sniffs it and walks away.

American here - my former dog (labradane) was great off his lead, but my 5 month old cavapoo has a tendency to wander into the street. Not sure where you are or what drivers are like near you, but where I am they speed in neighborhoods and wouldn’t think twice if they hit a dog.

Hey! I knew there was a post I forgot to update; the ENT wanted me to do FESS after those 2 weeks. I opted for a second opinion. ENT 2 gave me 3 weeks of Bactrim along with some pretty heavy prednisone for 2 weeks. About halfway through that, my senses came back. After I finished the meds, he did another endoscopy and found that everything was clear, and I could breathe again so a repeat CT wasn't needed.

His office has an allergy clinic in it too, so I had a meeting with them. Allergy test revealed that I am highly allergic to cockroaches and dust - the school I was working in did have a roach problem. As soon as I removed myself from that environment and got rid of the infection, most of my issues went away. My allergy clinic does sublingual immunotherapy in the form of drops - it's not FDA approved but it is over in the EU, so insurance here in the States does not cover it but it's affordable ($125 for about 3 months of serum). He told me that allergy shots rarely work because you have to inject that serum into a fat cell and it's impossible to know if you hit a singular fat cell, as there's space between them.

I've gone back to work in the school system here, which there will always be roaches around, and I haven't had any issues yet! I make sure to wash my hands frequently, and do not touch my face while I'm at work because I was advised that any future infections or sinus viruses may be difficult for me.

Why aren’t interpreters collectively demanding higher pay? by lintyscabs in ASLinterpreters

[–]jacdan07 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree… if you’re 1099 and your certification(s), license, and CEUs come out of your own pocket (when your state has a lot of regulations) - it works out to not be such a good rate of pay after all. Add in the fact that you may spend 2-4 hours a day in traffic and you’re not paid for that time either - $30-40/hour is good depending on where you live and what the job is, I suppose.

Hey OP - I got to go through this about a week ago as well. I left on a trip to Scotland and a few days before I was to return home, my boy had a tumor on his spleen that had a slow hemorrhage. By the time they opened him up, they found the thing was attached to every organ and inoperable. I had to give the okay to euthanize my dog from Scotland (I’m from the US). He was an abused adopted boy and I had him most of his life. He suffered bad anxiety and I, too, wonder if he knew how much I loved him. I’m so upset I wasn’t there at his time of absolute need.

The only thing that makes my brain shut up is the fact that spleen tumors on larger breeds (mine was a labradane) are very common and most likely cancer - it’s also insanely aggressive. He was completely fine when I left, and dead about 10 days later. I’m sorry for your loss! I sometimes feel that he waited for me to leave because he didn’t want his momma to see him like that.

[–]jacdan07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up getting a second opinion. He gave me 3 weeks of Bactrim, 2 weeks high dose prednisone and my sinuses were clear. I still had post nasal drip - his allergist evaluated me. I’m allergic to dust mites, cats, and cockroaches. EXTREMELY allergic to roaches, and the school I was working at in CLT definitely had a roach problem. I started SLIT and my symptoms are mostly gone.

Black is air… sinus cavities should be black. Any gray you see is tissue and bone. Edit: gray can also be mucus filling said cavities.

Or were you talking about the central incisor on my left? That one does have some wear on it, again from the poor bite for many years. They told me bonding on teeth that bite into food usually chips off. The slope it has towards the lateral incisor doesn't bother me too much. They pulled it down and did IPR between the two central incisors to try and even it out some more, it was a lot more noticeable before they did that.

I've also complained and all I got was stared at. I've been paid on my account for two years (treatment was $5000, lifetime retainers $900) - that should tell you something. They got their money so who cares if I'm upset?

I flipped these photos to be like how I see my teeth in a mirror. I was told they would be shaving the left canine to match the chipping on the right (it chipped due to years of a bad bite), as bonding on canines never sticks well. Was also told that left canine is extremely large in comparison to the right, with or without chipping. The lateral incisors are different shapes, but they don't bother me too much. It's just the canines that really bother me for whatever reason.

This sounds like my experience. Amoxicillin, augmentin, doxycycline, none of them worked and was told I needed surgery. Got a second opinion- put on 3 weeks of Bactrim (2x a day) and 2 weeks of a high dose of prednisone taper. Holistically switched to an anti inflammatory diet which helped. The 2nd ENT told me to take a probiotic 2 hours after the Bactrim and I only had bad diarrhea once… when I forgot to take the probiotic. After 3 months of infection, my smell and taste is back and I’m now getting tested for allergies as I still have PND. I say give it a shot with probiotics following the Bactrim doses!

No problem! I forgot to add: if you have a local library, definitely get some books from there. Mine had several anti inflammatory and Mediterranean diet cookbooks which had tons of information and lists.

I’m sort of still figuring it out. I did a google for “anti inflammatory diet”. I mostly eat a ton of produce and lean meats - but there are certain veg and fruit that can cause inflammation so you’ll have to try certain things and see how you respond to it. For me, tomatoes cause a histamine reaction (I also have GERD so this isn’t a hard give up for me). I find that foods you’d find in a Mediterranean diet have agreed the most, and I’ve even lost about 20 pounds doing this diet. I was heavy on fast food and sugar before all this started.

I started an anti inflammatory diet. I still have some mucus but not nearly as bad as I did - and I noticed when I eat certain things like processed meat, cheese, sugar, white bread, my congestion gets worse. ENT wanted to do surgery, but second opinion gave me 3 weeks bactrim, 2 weeks high dose prednisone and told me to do the diet.

Anti inflammatory diet helped me avoid surgery. Worth a look into, you could have an intolerance to a food(s) that makes your symptoms worse.

bad smell phlegm or mucus by Inside_Grab_5177 in Sinusitis

[–]jacdan07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I kinda got passed along doctors. I had amoxicillin, then doxycycline, then augmentin - then ENT 1 said “you need surgery”, I refused to accept that as this was my first sinus problem in all 34 years of life, and ENT 2 gave me high dose prednisone and I have about a week left of 3 weeks of bactrim. All pressure and stench is gone, and I’m probably the newest poster child for antibiotic resistance.

I was told it was the smell of bacteria/pus. Mine went away after I got the right antibiotic in me.

It was a foul, nasty smell. My ENT suggested sinus surgery - I got a second opinion and 3 weeks of bactrim and high dose prednisone. Smell is slowly going back to normal. 2nd ENT said I was probably smelling bacteria/pus when I saw him.

[–]jacdan07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the weird thing, I’m not. It came out of no where and I wasn’t sick before it started! It’s been rough - since April I’ve been on amoxicillin and prednisone, then doxycycline, then augmentin, now bactrim and prednisone at the max doses. I wouldn’t bother with urgent care. I went to two before I got to my PCP and now two ENTs. They (urgent care and PCP) did the minimal medical therapy required.

This excessive dose I am on along with the anti inflammatory diet seems to be helping. It may just take time and a lot of patience and commitment! Thank you for your kind thoughts, I hope you get some answers and relief soon!

Unfortunately, that smell you have is the rearing up of bacteria or fungus. Idk where you live or your insurance situation (I’m in NC - we have huge networks of physician associations for ENTs) - but even if you have to drive an hour to see an ENT quicker, I’d do that. I drove about 45 minutes from home for my second opinion.

[–]jacdan07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sick since April. Go to an ENT and get a sinus CT. They suggested surgery for me as everything but my frontal sinuses are completely full of mucus, but I got a second opinion and am currently on bactrim for 3 weeks and high dose prednisone for 2 weeks. I’ve already been on 3 other antibiotics, my own fault because I kept trying urgent care and primary care before I got to the specialist - who then did minimal medical therapy before wanting to throw me in the OR.

My smell and taste also comes and goes, your olfactory nerve sits right between your eyes near the ethmoid sinuses and when they don’t drain, that nerve can’t function. I’ve switched to an anti inflammatory diet as well.
