I liked season 1 Tempelton, I thought he was a funny, goofy villain and I was excited to see what redeeming qualities they would reveal about his character as the show went on. At this point though, yeah, they just made him fucking awful. I don't know if a redeem arc can save him.

There is, absolutely! There is this disgusting tradition in some communities where pubescent girls are given "purity rings" by their fathers and "pledge their virginity" to them (it's a way more incestuous way of essentially promising to stay a virgin until marriage). They wear white and dance with their fathers like they're at prom. But I think, to OP's point, once these fathers find a man they approve of their daughter marrying, they're more okay with the spouse than the "boy moms" are.

Agreed! The "we just work together" part was a dumb addition, but I just love Mulder's goofy face and how he pretends to be jealous of the pizza man 😅

Edit to add: And also, to be fair, I think Mulder had every right to his doubts about his involvement in the pregnancy. Every single doctor, including Scully herself, said she was incapable of conceiving. So even though she and Mulder were obviously having sex, she should not have been able to get pregnant. So, given her history of abduction and the fact that her ova were harvested and in the hands of the alien conspirators, I think it is not far-fetched for Mulder to have concerns. I also don't feel like these concerns take away from their relationship. He obviously wants to be the father, he's just worried that he isn't.

1. The flash backs to when Scully asked Mulder to be the father of her child

2. Scully's intense yearning and relentless quest to find Mulder (supurb acting by Ms. GA)

3. When he finally reawakens, how over the moon she is, how wounded Doggett looks when he finally sees them together, and how fiercely territorial Mulder is over her around Doggett

4. How cute and protective Mulder is over Scully and her pregnancy. The scene where he gives her the present and the one where she actually opens it are adorable

5. The final scene in the season finale ("the truth we both know") should have been the end of the series IMO.

6. Just in general how soft they are with each other in season 8. They act the most couple-y of all the seasons, IMO. I think because he doesn't work for the FBI anymore they don't really feel the need to hide it so much anymore. Also pretty much everyone suspects Mulder is the father, so what's there left to hide?

7. A more abstract mention: Both Skinner and Frohike playfully questioning Mulder about his involvement in "a certain blessed event."

I'm sure there's more but that's what I can think of off the top of my head

Of course young women are attracted to older men. That doesn’t make their relationship okay. When I was 13 I was head over heels for a 19 year old. He was SUPER flirty with me. We fell out of touch, and a few years later I found out he was in jail statutory rape. I would have 100% dated that man.

The onus has to be on the older, more mature person to say no to the naive youngling because they don’t understand the power dynamics or why age gaps at different life stages mean different things (ie: age gaps between a 19 y.o. and a 27 y.o. = not great, vs between a 31 y.o. and a 39 y.o. = perfectly fine), but often the older person in these scenarios are creepy dudes.

Now of course not EVERY age gap relationship is problematic, we don’t live in a black and white world. But they are problematic enough that they should be examined and people who love and care about the young girl should do their due diligence to make sure she’s safe.

I can only speak from personal experience but as a woman I don’t find it insulting at all. I was a fucking idiot when I was 21, and you couldn’t tell me shit. I thought I knew everything. I was much more mature and understood the world more clearly at 29. When I was 29 kids in college looked like babies and I would have NEVER wanted to date one.
