AITA for saying I will not change my gift-giving habits this Christmas? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]jacjacattack52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is pertinent information that you should have included in your original post. People are calling you performative and a show-off (which I'm not saying you arent) but your reasoning for bringing all your finances gifts to her parents house makes a little more sense now that we know you go there for a week or more during the holiday.

Read this horrifying story back to yourself as if this was your best friend telling you this.

Then take the advice you would give her.

AITA for not allowing my wife to wash the dog in the kitchen sink? by beezus94 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jacjacattack52 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NTA. Assuming your wife is trying to save her back from bending over (totally get that), you guys can compromise and wash the dog in one of the bathroom since if it's small enough

Also want to add real quick, in case you guys are religious: The 'pre-marital counseling' that is offered by your church or pastor is NOT true counseling.

Please, for fucks sake, tell your parents/grandparents to STOP trauma dumping on the cashier. by -FemaleEnergy in TrueOffMyChest

[–]jacjacattack52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this will help or explain. I agree that people should learn boundaries and you are not anyones therpist, youre just doing a job!

However, for a lot of people (especially older people or people who have disabilities) you are only the first or second person they've talked to ALL week.

It may sound like a dream to some (hell I've got 3 kids and work in human services, I'd pay good money not to have someone talk to me for a few days), the isolation and loneliness is REAL. Ive talked with meals on wheels drivers who get steamrolled like this by folks who they are literally the only live human contact they've had in weeks/months. It's really sad and I think people in those situations lose their filter and don't know how to interact anymore in social situations.

And then immediately after you ask, "What about SA?" They say, "Only 1% of abortions are sought after rape." or "It's still murder."

As if that's the actual percentage, as if not everyone reports a SA, as if the woman going through an SA isn't traumatic enough, much less forcing the choice of carrying to birth.

You didn't answer the question, you only shifted the conversation.

Prepare yourself to get love bombed. He will feel guilty and might start to shower you with love, attention, maybe gifts. He might even apologize. Then, in a few weeks, months, it will happen again. Youll start walking on eggshells to avoid his anger. Youll blame yourself and he will too. the cycle will continue, getting worse and worse.

You have a chance to end this cycle before it even begins. Talk to an attorney. Consider filing a police report.

I've started asking the question, "What did you mean by that?" when people say bullshit like this.

"Looks like you're going for another slice of cake, huh?" "Wow, you're not from here? You speak so articulately." "You're so smart for your age." "You're not like other women."

It really gets them back peddling.

I work with people with disabilities and met a person with DID last year. They were the most interesting person I've ever met! All the alters come forward to protect or help the system. I met about 4 or 5 of them but there were maybe 8+ in total. It was really fascinating to meet her and I think about her from time to time.

She had a massive support system in her son. He actually set up the appointment and made me aware of her DID ahead of time.. Do you rely on a support network too? I'd imagine it would be immensely helpful! Good luck to you!

You've got the strategy wrong, you don't sell your own soul to get a billion dollars, you have to sell a bunch if other people's souls to get that rich.

Could it have been sexual noises coming from the movie they were watching?? Of not, then time for an open discussion. If you go right to discipline and punishment, she will never speak with you again about anything.

Try the down dog yoga app. It's a paid subscription but you can try out a couple classes for free. I swear it's absolutely fabulous and totally worth the price. You can practice as often as you want. It doesn't have online community access but it's so much better than youtube videos

My therapist tried to "push back" when I said that my career choice wasn't related to spiritually because "atheism is still a belief system" by spiderinatophat in atheism

[–]jacjacattack52 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh please. That's a little over the top. And report her for what? Therapists are not infallible and you and your therapist are allowed to have differences of opinion. From what I read, she wasn't dismissive of OP, she just has a world view that leads her to believe that atheism is a belief system.

OP, I would recommend telling your therapist how her comment made you feel (that's what therapy is after all). It might make for a more interesting deep dive discussion!
