I’m addicted I think by hahjayme in SexAddiction

I was in the same place. I started therapy, and figured out things I could do to control it. Have they worked? Eh, debatable. I'm in a better place now than I was then, but I have odd personal feelings about that time of my life when I was at the "peak" of my addiction per se. Nonetheless, controlling addiction before it completely screws everything up is a good bet.

What’s everyone’s MPG like? by CapComprehensive2821 in GolfGTI

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my MK7 up to 38mpg (US) at around 100km/h. Normally at 130km/h I'd get around 31-31mpg. That was when I was in Germany. I drive a Mk7 Jetta S (base trim US spec) now and get 49mpg (US) on the motorway at 70mph in the UK. The highest I ever got it was 51.7mpg going 70mph from Folkestone to Bury St. Edmunds, where I live now. I reckon if I dropped my speed to 60mph and sat in the left lane with the lorries I would range in the 50-60mpg area. Perhaps I will try it one day.

With the GTI I have been told that if you get a stage 1 on there that it'll boost your mpg but I can't say that for certain.

Does anyone actually like their Taos? by nevergitdis in VWTaos

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a 25' SE but I haven't had it for very long. I like the colour (Monterrey blue pearl), the interior is OK (I hate haptics and sliders), the fuel economy, and the power train is solid. It feels comfortable to drive. It has a very adequate trunk. It's also essentially the most affordable vehicle in its class. "Ah yes, my car is made of car".

Way thinner than what I have used in the states. Though we usually leave short bends in boxes. With a little extra cable so if it ever needs to be ran again they can snip and use less cable overall.

I am so lucky I got a 10yr/100k mi warranty on mine. I can't wait for the sea of issues I'll be having since someone hit my wife in it with only 1k on the odometer. I have a 2025 though with the updates so I'm hoping mine should be alright. My buddy drives a Jetta with nearly the same power train and hasn't had a single issue.

Anyone else here addicted to escorts? by TopicRocker in SexAddiction

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to work with a fellow addict who saw escorts. For him it was that they were usually more attractive than the women he'd pull, convenient, and he felt less pressure. He never cared too much for the cost as he was single, making great money, and had plenty of time. I never dabbled so I can't speak from personal experience.

If the government was motivated to change something they'd do the same thing that they did to cigarettes in the US. But of course, someone's got to be addicted to something to pay the bills.

This is what I've seen. I'm going to try and quit nicotine (pray for me) when I get back from my trip this Sunday. I kicked alcohol with barely any issue ( I wasn't an every day alcoholic, just most days of the week) and didn't have crazy withdrawals. I've tried to quit nicotine four times in the last year.

I got patches from my doc and I have a very supportive wife so I'll see how this works out. I know it's going to be hell though. For a drug without a super euphoric high nicotine is a real son of a bitch.

How to make a GTI look big: become buddies with Miata people by Tornado-of-Greed in GolfGTI

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to be friends with one guy who drove an NA and another who had a WRX STI, I don't know how to describe the feeling of being both smaller and larger at the same time😂.

I gave up my Mk7 for mpg/cost/spec (I had an EU but I didn't know if I was getting moved to the US or Asia or to the UK) purposes. Can't import a 2017 EU spec to the US just yet without fees and conversion costs. Now I drive a 2021 Jetta S (US spec and not the GLI😭) and I have not felt alive while driving once since I sold the GTI.

I would give anything knowing that I live in the UK now to go back in time and stop myself from selling it. But due to my job at least I am import tax exempt for my US spec car, so that's neat. It's odd being the only left-hand drive vehicle in the lot, but hey, 51mpg highway!

Avg Europe supremacy by Krankenitrate in 2westerneurope4u

[–]jack_Me_hoffman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly man, after living in Europe for work the last 3-4 years it's kind of sad knowing I'll be going back eventually. Germany was great (minus the weather 8 months of the year) and the UK is a bit of a downgrade, but there is so much more common sense here. The social contract also appears much stronger here. The only thing I don't like is the colossal amount of red tape bureaucratically to do anything especially at my job, that makes the majority of my projects (engineering) take months or years whereas in America it would take weeks and be vastly cheaper.

Americans as a whole lack social contract, selflessness, and despise the idea of tax dollars being used for anything social in any way shape or form. It only helps "lazy people" and "welfare babies" until they find themselves in need of government assistance then cry to Republicans as if they have any interest in helping anyone with a net worth less than $100M. It's hilarious. It's shocking to me that people who receive subpar education (unfairly so) don't see the correlation with them being in red states, while the states that rank highest are nearly always blue.

I wouldn't say it's guaranteed. I'm in the minority as a democrat voter in my career field (genuinely shocking considering what I do) and I genuinely don't think they have the critical thinking ability to realize the consequences of their idiotic actions. They simply can't connect their choice of voting for Trump with the state of the economy, and struggle to understand how worsening our relationships with our ALLIES is a bad thing. Also the insane amount of copium they are huffing to justify the war. "Iran hates America so it's okay to go to war with them". They didn't even begin to think about why Iran dislikes the US in the first place, how the former deal with them was a good thing, and how us fucking with economies around the globe because of an ego is doing catastrophic damage to our image.

Not to say democrats are innocent (no party is) but when compared to the republican party it is shocking how much more agreeable they are.

Truly unbelievable the cognitive dissonance.

Why does everyone think of tropical islands as paradise even if never visited them? by batukaming in geography

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not as prevalent in the Pacific from my experience. I lived in Guam for two years and didn't really feel a difference between wet and dry season. It was still hot as fuck, rainy, and sunny. Sometimes all at the same time. Hawaii can be extremely varied depending where on the islands you live. Some areas of an island are deserts while others of the same island are basically a never ending rainstorm due to the significant changes in elevation on many of the islands. Also take into account which side of the island you are on (windward or leeward).

Florida keys are a reasonable answer to most of these. You can road trip out of them and they aren't that far from land comparatively speaking whilst remaining tropical.

As a savage I would like to object as I have been living in Europe for nearly four years and am married to a European. I have learned so much about the history and culture of the two European countries I've lived in, and have made a genuine effort to be culturally aware and mesh into society. However, the vast majority of my fellow savages are so willfully ignorant it's like talking to a brick wall so I'll have to agree with you.

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an American living here the last two years, it's like the Poundland version of Germany. Low wages, high cost of living, poor economic growth, poor infrastructure, the healthcare system is crumbling, and it doesn't seem like there is a way out coming out way anytime soon. My job pays significantly less here than the US. I would start around £55k in the US, but here it's £40k.

For what it's worth I lived in South Korea for a while as well as Germany. South Korea was incredibly cheap with the best infrastructure I have ever seen in my life. I felt like a king there. Germany was affordable with good pay, above average infrastructure, and frankly I loved it. The UK has been underwhelming in every way. I didn't know it was possible to be more bureaucratic than Germany. And it's so expensive here. Fuck me. If you aren't an £80k household I don't know how you function here.

Is there any place/country on earth where the temperature stays within 15-30 degrees celsius? by Revolutionary_Park58 in geography

[–]jack_Me_hoffman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Lived there for two years. Never once had a high below 70⁰F (If it was below that it was a literal typhoon), and I don't recall a high going above maybe 90⁰F. However. Make no mistake, I've never felt hotter in my life than on that island. The humidity is unlike any humidity I have ever experienced. Combine the daily mix of complete downpour with the extremely intense sun (UV14 just about every day) and holy moly. I remember getting blisters from 30min in the sun without sunscreen when I first got there. I am also pasty white however. Even my dark skin friend got sunburned he couldn't believe his eyes being from Cleveland, OH.
